Kamar smirked as Wolfhound turned on him, knowing that only the wolfman would be able to see it within the darkness of his hood. In a voice low enough to be heard only by Wolfhound in the sudden pandemonium of the place, Kamar whispered, "No, my friend, you have made the mistake..."
He ducked and bobbed right to dodge the first dagger, which flew just over his shoulder. His left hand shot up with a dagger in it, deflecting the second throw just enough for it to fly harmlessly by him. Even as he made his defensive moves, he shouted, "It's a werewolf! He's somehow controlling those wolves!"
As Wolfhound took his first steps towards Kamar, he whirled, whispering a spell (Part Crowd - see description in Kamar's profile), his robes flaring behind him to soften the twin blows of more thrown daggers. Even still, he took one glancing blow across his left shoulder blade, nearly causing him to lose his concentration and interrupt his spell, while the second got stuck harmlessly in the fabric of his robe. He darted forward, not even seeing the spinning kick. The crowd, what little of it there was, seemed to part before him and immediately close behind him, helping to deter any creature giving chase. Many of the patrons seemed upset at the shouting of 'werewolf', and were also running in various directions to escape the inn.
Kamar went straight for the storage room he had come out of, carefully ignoring the mark, not at all letting on that he knew she was there, or even cared that she was there. Confusion was his greatest ally now.

You’re gonna find out you’re already dead, and I was the world coming down on your head.
Wolfhound landed, turning, he looked for Kamar, only to find his path blocked. 'This is bad, bards gone out back' he thought, sniffing the air, 'Kamars headed for storage room, too close for comfort'. Without thinking wolfhound transformed, picking up his four daggers, he re sheathed them. To the bar patrons, his hood was flung back and they saw the eyes narrow, ears grow fur and sharpen, claws frow out of hands and his muscles grow.
Wolfhound let out a deafening roar. The patrons started scrambling for both exits, wolfhound headed for the back, hoping to find this bard before Kamar did. His wolves cleared a path for him, and any that the wolves missed were thrown aside by Wolfhounds abnormal strength.
Wolfhound reach the back exit with ease, sniffing he found the bards scent and issued a command to the wolves, giving them images of surrounding the bard, but not hurting her. The wolves bounded off and wolfhound was not far off joining them, his transformed state making him faster than even the wolves themselves.
WOlfhound reached the bard quickly, his nightsight and nose giving way to it being easy to locate her. The wolves made haste in getting in position, but hidden so she wouldn't be alarmed. "Are you stupid, woman. You think running away will keep you safe from that man! If I wasn't there, you would probably be dead by now! You need my protection, and it doesn't matter if you hate me, for whatever reason, because it's not half as much as I hate my self!.." Wolfhounds tone had taken on a manic note, he spent a couple of moments breathing deeply, gathering himself, "Forget I said that."

She'd made it out the back without straining or fighting, which was a nice change. For once, she wouldn't be present during the brawl to be injured. How wonderful. How...liberating.
And then of course the growling started around her. And then a voice drifted over from the dark, insulting her and then vaguely threatening her life. How nice. Lanya's annoyance had only just started to recede, and now this...thing expected her to just obey. Without question or comment. No more. No more.
Once again, she huffed up, ready to unleash the type of onslaught rarely seen from the even-tempered woman, but his closing statement stopped her. Made her consider. He'd just given her a powerful weapon, an opening to shred his pride and dignity. Generally psychopaths and people out for death didn't do such things. So maybe, just maybe, he wasn't a liar.
It didn't take away the anger, but it did help to redirect it.
"Consider from my point of view. I wolf-like man I've never met grabs me in the street and tells me to stick with him for my safety, just because he says so. Can you blame a woman for being cautious? For wanting to be sure?"
She eyed him in the dark. Her plain ol' human eyes didn't make out any particular features, but his eyes, along with the wolves around him, glinted in that yellow way animal eyes could. She sighed and gestured.
"Besides, he wasn't attacking me in there."
She shuffled her pack and guitar, making herself comfortable, and looked up at the yellow eyes.
"For what it's worth, I don't hate someone without at least getting to know them first."
The wolves were nearby, even her distant human senses could feel the numerous eyes pinning her where she stood. She considered her position...perhaps a peace offering of sorts would help. And now that she knew they weren't threatening, she wouldn't mind meeting the pack.
She reached into her bag and pulled out a few meat rolls, unsure of how many wolves there were. It was cooked, but they were animals above all else, and generally food was a good thing. She crouched to put herself at their eye level and held out the rolls.
"Anyone hungry?"

Kamar made the storage closet and whirled, shutting the door behind him. There didn't seem to be much in the way of pursuit, but he still slipped further into the shadows to the side of the doorway, dagger and siangham in hand. He needed to take the time to catch his breath and keep the excitement at bay.
Finally, a hunt worthy of him! A mark who actually had someone capable to defend them. The thought gave him shivers.
His gaze stopped on the proprietor of the small inn, who was cowering in the farthest corner of the storage shed. Kamar let his eyes shift spectrums slightly, and sure enough, the man was staring at him, shaking in fear. Kamar smirked within his hood.
Several moments passed before Kamar decided that pursuit was not coming. Of course, there was the little matter of the poor proprietor, and his being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Definitely the wrong place...
Kamar started forward, the dagger in his left hand. He slipped his right hand back into his shadow, releasing the siangham, while at the same time tossing the dagger in his left up in the air. It came down point first and was caught neatly by Kamar's returning right hand. It was a simple task to flick his wrist and send the dagger spinning end over end into the proprietor's eye. The poor man convulsed once, then slumped back against the wall, unmoving.
Kamar retrieved the dagger and callously wiped it on the man's shirt, then sheathed it. He stepped into the shadows, which seemed to swallow him.

You’re gonna find out you’re already dead, and I was the world coming down on your head.
Wolfhound shrugged, "Well if it's worth anything to you, I didn't grab you in the street, it was in the inn." He walked over to her and crouched down to meet her level, she smelled slightly of anger, and it was in her eyes as well.
"I'm sorry If I angered you, but hunting down assassins, and protecting people from assassins is my Job, I've done it my entire adult life. Remember, an assassin will try to kill a 'bodyguard' as such first, to make the target an easier kill, besides, I think I angered kim in the street"
Wolfhound looked around, she seemed to be offering the wolves food, he chuckled, "You don't have to worry about them, they do what I tell them to and no more, they will help me protect you untill this assassin is dead". Wolfhound studied her for a reaction to his speech, he always seemed to end up gushing so much talk at once.

Kamar sat high on a building, deep in shadow. The wind whipped around him, carrying his scent high into the night air, and away from the wolfman and his 'friends'.
He watched the conversation from on high, not able to hear, but able to see how each reacted to the other. The mark seemed to be talking to the wolves surrounding her.
Kamar paused, watching the two a moment longer.
Magic is banned here, for whatever reason. Shape shifting must be somehow magical, not to mention communication with animals, Kamar reasoned to himself. Perhaps...
Kamar frowned as an idea came to him. Will it work?
A wicked grin came to his lips. He stood and made his way to the edge of the building, where his rope ladder hung. He climbed down swiftly and silently. At the bottom, with a practiced flick of the wrist, he released the catches from the top of the building and let the ladder drop to the ground at his feet. Within no time, it was concealed once again on his person, and he was off, moving silently through the night.

"Remember? What's to remember? I've never been a target before."
It was a half-truth, but the assassin inside the inn had more finesse and skills than the teen-aged werewolf who'd attacked her months ago. She sighed, finally accepting the weight of a marked woman. She didn't want to die, despite the guilt over the girl's death, and she didn't want to die in a professionally done manner especially. Those seemed to have the taint of blood vengeance to them, which left them bloodier and crueler than any other kind of kill.
Lanya shivered and sighed again, laying the meat rolls on the ground for the wolves. She didn't have an appetite anymore, and perhaps these wolves would need the food more than her. She stood and straightened herself with some effort and pain. She wasn't as young as she'd once been.
"I'm not afraid of them. If you'd wanted me dead, you'd be ripping me apart right now. I'm not a fool."
She said it with a minor amount of temper, but she was mostly burned out. She didn't hold on to anger terribly long. It's wasn't in her nature.

Wolfhound chuckled, "I meant remember for future refrence, if you'll excuse me, I need to shift back to my normal form or I'll run out of energy".
Wolfhound stood up slowly, streching, he began to transform; his ears shrinking slightly, the fur on his ears dissapearing. His completly yellow eyes ecept for black slits for pupils became more round, more human like. His claws retracted to fingernails, and his mucsles seemed to convulse before settling down, smaller than before.
Wolfhound looked around, 'Come' he sent to the wolves, 'She is a friend'. In actual fact it was more a range of pictures to them next to here licking her hand than speech, but it was roughly what it translated into.
The wolves approached slowly out of the forest, but as soon as they saw the food, the few quickest wolves were happily munching away on the ground and the ohers setled them selves near enough to the bard for her to stroke them in the hopes of some more food.
Wolfhound laughed at that, they were a cheecky lot, for wolves. In his opinion they would make better dogs. "So I think should head out into the forest, my wolves can protect you there, and I know it like the back of my hand. It 'll be easy to spring a trap for him there, like the spider the fly."

She smiled as the wolves finally descended on the food and gave the closest wolves rubdowns, chuckling. The universal language.
She looked up to watch the man shift into his more human form and felt a pang of recognition. Were shifters really this common? She'd met at least one in every place she'd been, and they were always of the canine variety. She wondered idly if she attracted these sorts. At least she liked dogs.
She stretched, sighing internally at the thought of another night spent in the woods, making camp. She'd really been looking forward to that bed...ah, well. She'd survive. But she wouldn't be happy about it.
"Fine. The woods it is."
Lanya reached up and gently pat the little wooden robin on her shoulder, which whistled happily at the affectionate move. Greenfyre, on her back, vibrated gently. The damn thing was always warm. At least she had something of a portable furnace to keep her warm at night.
She looked around at the pack and mused. Perhaps she'd have some fur to keep her warm tonight, too.

"Alright then, we should probably start moving, I don't know how long we have before the assassin comes after you again" He looked around; sniffing the air, there wasn't a trace of him nearby, 'safe...for now at least'.
"I know a nice clearing in the woods not too far away, that guy seems to have some skill with shadows, and I'd rather stay out of them" Wolfhound looked at the wolves, they seemed content with her, 'Time to move' showing them pictures of the clearing he meant, and then of the bard riding one of them. They didn't seem to mind. To them, she was partly their responsiblilty, and if it got her their faster, they didn't care.
"You got two options, we can walk, or I know a couple of them wouldn't mind you riding on their backs, I can keep up with the wolves easily enough."
Wolfhound chuckled at that thought, then studied her for a reaction, it wouldn't do for her to be even slightly scared of them, it made protecting her all the more complex.

Shadows. The assassin worked with shadows. Now that was interesting. And the forest...
"Wait..the forest? But if he works with shadows, shouldn't we stay away from them? The forest is one big shadow. All those trees. And night time is definitely dangerous in the shadowy way."
She raised a brow at him, understanding only half of his logic. He was wolfkind, and would want to be in his element, which she assumed was the forest. But if this assassin could manipulate shadows...
She looked at the wolves, which although large only came to her waist, and then back at him. Carry her? She wasn't some tiny thing without weight to her, and she wasn't light as a feather like some fantasy heroine. Plus, she had the bulky cloak on, not to mention the staff (which wasn't light) and Greenfyre, which weighed at least 6 pounds. Altogether, she was no easy burden to just hop onto one of the wolves and ride along daintily.
She stared at him as if he were insane, then blinked and coughed. Maybe she should be flattered, but...
"No...I'll walk. That's alright. And I enjoy moving."
The truth was, she'd never done anything but walk for herself. Had never even ridden a horse. It would be foreign, moving without actually moving.

WOlfhound frowned at her, "Alright, I know an abandoned warehouse we could use in the industrial district, but I know of only two wolves willing to come into the city; thats why I wanted to use the forest, but I suppose you have a point, city it is then."
He looked at the wolves, telling them he was going to the city, the two wolves coming with them stepped up closer to him, emotions and images translated into words in his head came from one of them, 'We go now, need time scout area and make safe'. Wolfhound nodded in agreement, telling them to go on ahead.
"The wolves are going to scout ahead and make the warehouse safe, we need to get going if you're going to get any sleep." Instead of waiting for a reply he simply began walking, while using a hand to encourage her along, "Oh, by the way, I never got your name."

She watched the wolves run off into the night, quickly fading into the shadows, and couldn't help but feel a prickle of worry for them. Even if they were here by choice, they were animals, and were innocent in ways humans weren't. She shook off the feeling and looked at the...man...beside her with new interest. She was too tired to put up a fight, and a warehouse sounded at least safer. Open areas meant she could see anything coming toward her.
"Sounds fine."
She started along, following his lead. She kept up by sheer will; she'd been walking all day, and was rather tired. The warehouse would be far off, in the city, but at least she was now travel ling with someone who could put up a decent fight.
Greenfyre suddenly thrummed on her back, and she scowled at the ground ahead. She really hated that guitar.
"I'm Lanya Caliope, wandering bard extraordinaire. I have absolutely no capacity for magic within me, so it seems I attract magical items instead."
She said this last part with no small hint of bitterness. She would never regret the staff, because Flame was a fun companion, but that damned guitar...
She shook herself out of her mood and looked at Wolfhound. Interesting name, that.
"Tell me about yourself."

Wolfhound looked towards the city; it was just about visible now. He looked back towards Lanya, and chuckled.
“You wanna know about me?”
He made a quick calculation of the time it would take to get to the warehouse, seemed about half an hour.
“Alright then, we got plenty of time, it’s a long story by the way”
As they continued their journey, he began explaining his background, from the mixing of the DNA, his mother’s murder, killing the mages, becoming a blade master and deciding to hunt assassins to prove to himself that he could escape his fate.
It was a long story, and more than once during the telling, the wolves appeared, seemingly out of nowhere to report that the way was still clear. After finishing the story, they were about a hundred meters from the warehouse.

While Wolfhound spoke, Lanya distracted herself by visualizing what turned out to be a most troubling past. She watched him while he spoke every now and then, memorizing the facial expressions. It was a sad story, but it was a story, something she herself was most interested in. She was already making rhymes and rhythms in her head to go along with the tale of woe. She wondered if he'd mind.
When he finished, she looked ahead and saw that more time had passed than she'd realized. It was nice to know that although she was dog tired, she'd soon be able to sleep, to rest...ah, sweet rest!
She also enjoyed watching the wolves pop in and out throughout the journey. It was an odd feeling, watching them communicate with Wolfhound. And what a name...she looked at him again.
