Fred the Composer

Post by Fred » Thu Jul 03, 2014 3:04 am

Name: Frederick, but he prefers Fred
Age: 103
Race: Noitu
Weight: 215kgs

Physical Description: Fred is a practical creature, and prefers clothing that reflects that. From his dress shirt to his black vest, even the small glasses that help him to see, he doesn't believe in flare to clothing, unlike his 'best' friend. The only concession he has ever made to fashion is the rather extravagant collection of bow ties that he has. They can be very colorful, and some have little designs on them. He is very protective of his bow ties, and if you try to untie one, he will become very huffy. And since his build is actually rather stout and muscular, contrary to his personality, some people are rather afraid of his huffiness.

When Fred was shaped by the Ministry of Arcana, it seems the old Shaper had a surplus of more muscular creatures to work from at the time. So Fred's body is larger made up of sperm whale, including his tail, and that's also where his teeth come from. Some of the other creatures that were incorporated into his design where of the seal variety, though he doesn't know which type. [The almost leopard like spots on his body seem to point to the leopard seal, but Fred wouldn't know anything about all of that.] Strangely enough, Fred doesn't seem to have lips as most people would know them, rather, he appears to have snout instead.

Possessions:

Waterphone: Like many musicians or composers, Fred has a instrument of choice, and his just happens to be the waterphone. With it and a simple bow, he can create whale-like noises, or shrieks and screams that sound like pain or terror. Since most of the compositions he creates revolve around whales or their sounds, this is a great tool for him to use in his writing. He takes great care of his instrument, and would be very angry if anyone were to mess with it, or potentially come close to breaking it.

Misc. Instruments: Even though as a musician he has a favorite instrument, he also has several that he either owns outright or borrows from other musicians to write his pieces with. Thanks to his nimble fingers, he's rather good at playing anything with strings, and he's fairly decent at a percussion instrument, but he refuses to attempt at playing any time of wind instrument, and rather hires other musicians to help him write pieces that include them. [It's very hard to play a wind instrument when you don't have lips, don't make fun, he's sensitive.]

Clothing: As stated, Fred's wardrobe is rather functional instead of flashy. Simple dress shirts, a black vest, small, wire framed spectacles. His fashion sense makes him look like an accountant most days. But, his bow-ties are an entirely different story. They range from flashy fabrics, convoluted patterns, and even decorated with little pieces of paste jewelry and shiny thread. He even has a special little part of his closet that opens up to show all of his well stored bow-ties. His professionalism is further strained on the days of a performance, where he ditches the bow-tie for a cravat of wondrous design and fabric.

Home: Fred has based his home over a music store. A small apartment, not too shabby, large enough to fit his nick-nacks and instruments comfortably. This way, he never has to travel far for new sheet music or replacement parts for his instruments. He's also been a great help to the older gentleman that runs the place, talking up the store when people ask him where he gets his things, and by letting the gentleman have first dibs on the sold sheet music that Fred writes.

It's a two bedroom, one of the rooms totally being devoted to instruments and as a writing space. The other room is where Fred sleeps, with a wash table, a mirror, and since his tail makes it rather difficult to sleep in a bed, a well secured hammock. The living room has a few chairs for guests, a special seat for him, once again because of his tail, and a decently sized collection of books. An avid reader, Fred likes to stay on top of the reading collection that is available in the city, and tries to buy new reading material when it is available.
