Healthy Wife, Happy Life

By the time the group hit Shim, Fay was all but falling out of the saddle, the infection that Cerion, Fay and (when he could pull it off) Jerial had all fought to prevent had sunk in. Either Fay's luck decided to take a down turn or the bandits blades had been poisoned. Perhaps a slow-acting poison, a very slooooow acting poision... Fay thought almost cheerily to herself, swaying and giggling now. Wow... Jerial's eyes are REALLY pretty... Fay tried to reach up and pet them, though she only got his cheek.
"You're so smooooth." Fay observed deliriously, continuing to pet Jerial's cheek. The elf looked down concernedly even as Cerion looked at her, grey with exhaustion.
"We need to get her to a doctor, and quickly. I doubt if any of us have the supplies or magic to heal her enough to last much longer." Fay was tired, the world was spinning. She was bound, she wouldn't be bound. Nausea rose and she fought to be free. Somehow managing to fall off the horse she crawled a few feet - just outside of Shim - and promptly lost whatever she'd managed to down.

Re: Healthy Wife, Happy Life
What was often a time to relax and reflect upon matters of personal concern during the day was left behind in acknowledgement of the days current events. Crowds of the local populace of Shim began to gather in the face of the newest visitors of the small town, and it was this in addition to a woman of slim build and disheveled silvery-blonde hair. She was covered in wounds that looked to be cared for with haste lying next to a pile of what must have been her last meal and a tired Horse that was attempting to eat the overgrowth the roads did not prevent from growing.
Growing concerned for the safety of the injured Tanobi gently but firmly pressed his way through the thinner gathering of the curious population. making his way to the prone body Tanobi identified the humans companions as those with the fear-laced faces that were not attempting to rummage through her belongings. Not wanting to attract the ire of adventurers however he identifies himself while closing the distance;
"My name is Tanobi Durant, a doctor -this woman appears to need medical attention, are you three with her?"

Re: Healthy Wife, Happy Life
"Yes. I am Jerial, one who knows this woman quite well." Jerial said this, stepping forward and establishing himself as liaison with the new arrival. To be honest with himself, he was scared out of his wits. "Please, if there be anything you can do, by any means, do so now." He took a small step back and motioned toward her. He would normally be at her side in any remote situation near this; he could not think clearly, and he could not hear his voices. A knot tied itself in his stomach.
He watched as the physician crouched down to examine Fay. He shot a glance at Kado, who nodded reassuringly, and to Cerion, who was pacing and biting his lip. He was probably berating himself for some failure or another. Oh, right. Fay.
He couldn't take it anymore. Jerial did not want to do anything to get in the healer's way, nor did he wish to injure Fay further, so he sat down cross-legged by her head and stroked her hair. She looked up at him; her normally beaming eyes held only a weak smile.
Slow acting poison indeed.
It doesn't look like you're helping.

Re: Healthy Wife, Happy Life
Whatever was working in her system was now racing through it. Everything was too bright, too loud, too much. She whimpered, feeling sick and child-like. She didn't like this, where was mother? Dead... Father!? Dead.... No-one... she had no- A hand. Stroking her hair. Glazed eyes managed to see a face. Jerial... She had him still. She smiled, she trusted him.

Cerion paced, continuing the berate himself. Why hadn't he sensed the poison? He'd killed all but a small amount of infection - small enough even her body should have been able to fight it. The cuts had healed sluggishly - something that was not common at all for shifters. He continued to pace, gnawing at an almost bloody lip. Kado stopped him, a hand on his shoulder.
"You can't have seen everything, Cerion, even I know there are poisons magic cannot detect." Cerion closed his eyes, of course. But there were a multitude of those and Cerion didn't know which one was affecting Fay.
He looked to Jerial, soothing the delirious Fay even as she looked to him, a look of complete and utter trust on her features. She couldn't care less for the healer who worked by her side, examining her bared wounds, all she saw was the man who stood by her. Well, sat, but Cerion didn't think that mattered.
"I could not detect anything with my magic while attempting to heal her," Cerion told the man, hoping to help. "I am not certain if his aids in your... diagnosis, but it is the best we can give." Quietly he turned to the group then looked to Kado.
"Perhaps it is best if they leave." Nodding, Kado began to assist Cerion in dispersing the crowd.

Re: Healthy Wife, Happy Life
Tanobi moves slowly, deliberately as he examines the prone human. The unidentified woman had fallen from horseback, opening a previously healed laceration that was reddening and darkening from the body's attempts to fight infection. now bleeding and staining the old bandages as the blood attempts to coagulate and create a seal by escaping the open wound in the skin. Her eyes although darting from figure to figure were dilating from the angle of the sun and showed general signs of sight giving away her cognition of the world around her. This was likely to be limited but, perhaps useful for gathering information on her condition if she could answer questions.
Before any of this could be tended to however the body needed to be moved, to stay in the sunlight risked the victim exposure and the vomits proximity might induce discomfort or cause unwanted sensory reactions. Having fallen off of horseback the woman also could have sustained broken bones or opened old unseen wounds. Tanobi moved his hands slowly checking for sprains or fractures within the vital areas of her anatomy; the neck, back, ribs and legs were all felt for any injury's. Fortune it seemed favored this soul with both a strong constitution as well as a solid bone structure as their were no breaks to be immediately seen and if cleared of her unexplained ill's would be able to leave of her own power- undoubtedly sooner than the Doctor would like.
No words were spoken except for the ignored ramblings and speculations of the villagers, tensions road high as the group were no doubt eager to hear if their friend would make it, an answer he did not have an answer for. Instead of responding to the worried glances of the group he shot a beaming smile at the one identified as 'Jerial', took his walking stick, arose slowly from the prone figure and walked towards the nearest tree.

Re: Healthy Wife, Happy Life
Jerial was furious. What gall this pitiful human had, to call himself a physician, and not even take any care of a potentially dying patient! And to flash that condescending smile! He rose to his feet, snatching his staff from where it was strapped to the horse. He walked with purpose toward the ignorant man, meeting the glares of the remaining townspeople, daring them to challenge him. He approached the tree where the man was standing.
For a moment, Jerial considered spitting on the man's face and ending his wretched life once and for all.
It would be fun, and to an extent wise, but unethical. I do not believe it would sit well with the other commoners, either.
You know I would anyway.
Do not.
Very well.
Instead, he narrowed his eyes and leaned in close. "What...in...the...name...of...Hell...was... that?" he hissed. The doctor would love to use euphemism and asteism to get his own way, but Jerial would have none of it. When the man did not answer immediately, Jerial cracked a small smile, his sword now gleaming in his hand. "I would answer if I were you."
Jerial saw the man's eyes betray his fear, his overwhelming desire to shrink from Jerial, his confusion. Jerial drank it in. Jerial would relish hearing the pitiful human's response.
Humans, a voice said with disdain.
I know. The commoners are the worst of the lot, Jerial replied, almost chipper.
Why would this man be any different? Even that mage could not heal her. Why would you think this man would save her?
I don't know. I was desperate; Fay...
It was a weak decision. I expect you to be much more composed. By Elohim.
Careful. Calm. Composed. All these words are meaningless under pressure.
If you say it is so. I disagree.
You can if you wish.
I will.
Very well.
I do enjoy the position you have put the human in, however.
He is as pitiful as the rest.
Aye. Your noble blood alone speaks volumes about your superiority. Nonetheless, even you, the pinnacle of evolution, the philosopher, the royal, the eternal phoenix, the practitioner of the arcane arts, the romantic, the warrior; even you must deal with this filth. It is truly repulsive.
My feelings exactly. Jerial half-shifted, his eyes burning, the energy around him filling him with power. He was indeed perfection, was he not? Compared to this...human.

Re: Healthy Wife, Happy Life
Someone moved from her side, and that bothered Fay - when did they get there? But never mind that - Jerial left too! Alone, she was alone again. Always so alone. Tears slipped down her face, unnoticed, as she was once more a small kit, locked in her room, punished for something she could not control. Her body curled into itself, she whimpered. Pain, inexplicable pain. Alone... always alone. She wanted to sob, wanted to scream. What the hell, she was alone anyways. She did.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________
Cerion moved to follow Jerial - even if to stop him from slaughtering the still-useful doctor, when she screamed. Whirling he raced to Fay's side, crouched and drew up o what little strength he had left to see what was the matter. She sobbed hopelessly, the word "alone" and Jerial's name occasionally mixed into the sobs. She clutched at herself, screaming again, sobbing. He couldn't take it.
"Look, I know you have no good reason to assist us," Cerion began, his voice edging on desperate, "but you can't just leave her like this."

Re: Healthy Wife, Happy Life
Shirking momentarily from Jerial's attempt at intimidation, Tanobi quickly turns to respond to Cerion's plead for help answering firmly and quickly while keeping his brisk pace toward the tree.
"I will not abandon her, however to commit to healing this woman there is something i must ask of you". Tanobi leaves his alleged request unasked, loosening stiff shoulder blades as he nears the tree he gazes at the strong low hanging branches as he plants his walking stick in the ground and proceeded to lift himself until a thick branch that was just out of reach was within his grasp. Tanobi now hung both hands clasped upon the unyielding branch of the tree he began to shake up and down until the branch gave a crack and came away from the tree save for a strip of bark that peeled off, unwilling to let the limb go completely. the branch fell to the floor taking Tanobi with it as he tumbled to the ground and fumbled for his walking stick to help himself up.
He would repeat this process once more with slightly more difficulty and turned to face jerial as he walked briskly back to the Woman, three sticks under his arm. He walked with a limp while fumbling for something in his pack with his left hand.

Re: Healthy Wife, Happy Life
Jerial strode over to Cerion, still bitter at the indignant human. "This is madness," he whispered, almost hissed, at the raven-haired mage. "This human will get Fay killed. You must save her; no patience should be spared or time wasted with this imbecile." He could tell Cerion agreed. They were both anxious to get this incompetent excuse for a medical practitioner out of the situation. "How would we go about this?"
"You will need to lend me all your energy, Jerial. Open a channel of energy to me on my signal, and with our combined strength we can save her," Cerion replied. "But first we must rid ourselves of that Puradyne."
Jerial knew just how. He walked to the human, motioning with two fingers for Cerion to follow without looking back. When he reached the human, he shoved him over on the ground, the dirt meeting its equal. Jerial shoved himself down into a crouch beside Fay. He tapped her face lightly. "Look at me, Fay. We will heal you. Just look at me." He looked over his shoulder momentarily as Cerion approached, his face grim.
Cerion kneeled by Fay, placing one hand on her stomach and another on her upper leg. Jerial grunted softly; Cerion repositioned his hands, this time on her arm and her midriff. "Jerial," he said softly, "you must begin the work if we are to succeed." Jerial breathed in and out deeply. His eyes closed, fluttering slightly.
The work took longer than Jerial could stand; his head was light, his arms trembling. Suddenly, Cerion took a sharp breath and fell back from his kneeling position to lying on his back. Jerial also felt close to unconsciousness until he felt Fay grip his hand tightly. She gasped, full consciousness returning to both as adrenaline flooded their veins.
Jerial picked Fay up to a sitting position. She coughed for a few seconds, then looked up to Jerial with unbelieving eyes. For a moment there was silence. Then words poured forth faster than her mouth could form them. "You weren't supposed to be able to do that. The poison was undetectable. Where's the physician? How did you so this? You don't know healing magic! Oh, Changers, Cerion! How did he do it?"
Jerial calmed her quietly, his eyes understanding. "Ssh. Ssh. I don't know. And I don't care. You're safe, unlike when you were under the care of that idiot human."

Re: Healthy Wife, Happy Life
Tanobi lie upon the ground briefly after being shoved, still searching for an item in his pack when it fell into his hands: a spool of strong thread and a threading needle. Clasping it firmly in his hand he began to remove his sash and set to work stopping occasionally and then only to listen or pay close attention to the actions of the somewhat volatile companions of the now identified 'Fay'. Using a pattern taught to him by an old basket-weaver Tanobi with great care fashioned a makeshift stretcher from the materials at hand with the twine, sticks and his own sash coming to proper form they made a strong-if temporary transportation device for the injured.
As Tanobi neared his charge his expression continued to grow grim from his observations of her still deteriorating condition. Fay's breathing coming off of the high of adrenaline began to resume its slow haggard heaves, the visible skin began to glisten with sweat from a confused and panicked immune system. it was when Tanobi was closest that he realized with certainty that everyone involved had made a grave error, it was given away by her eyes which were still dilated- not from the sunlight but manifesting itself as another symptom of several poisons he knew of. Unfortunately the efforts of Jerial and Cerion most likely have exacerbated Fay's condition the adrenaline pumping the poison through her system at a now alarming rate.
While placing the stretcher upon the ground behind Her he chose to answer Fay's question: "It would appear Madam 'fay' that your friends like to make a mess of things also-" he turns to Jerial and seems to address him specifically. "It would be appreciated if you did not attempt to kill my patient" Jerial seemed to freeze in place. Hoping he had taken control of the situation the Doctor attempted to get Fay transported as swiftly as possible sliding the makeshift stretcher underneath her as she was still in Jerial's loose embrace. "Cerion grab the other end we will get her to the Alchemist, Madam Fay please lie do-" Tanobi was quickly interrupted by a slow vicious hay-maker fist from Jerial that struck Tanobi on his right cheek sending him slumping to the floor.
Fay gave a shout of Jerial's name while Tanobi grunted briefly in pain.
"How Dare you!" yelled Jerial unable to take the indignity of being talked down to in his moment of supposed triumph. "You have yet to do a thing to help her! What would you know" he challenged.
"Procedure, protocol and I know Very well enough not to tamper with or call upon power I know I do not possess!" Tanobi clasped his walking stick in his left hand before taking a hard blow to the ribs from an angry Jerial's foot. His response was deafened by Tanobi's voice booming with conviction drawing power with some difficulty from his wounded stomach "Also i know damn well not to gloat over saving my friends even as they get worse right next to me!". Tanobi begins to lift himself off the ground, both hands slowly allowing his body to rise with the aid of his walking stick, never taking his focused eyes off the furious elf. "Look at her Jerial her condition regresses even as we stand here bickering like children." as Jerial looks to Fey who was thrown into another coughing fit he turns to face his verbal attacker once more as Tanobi continues. "I am content to let others make and learn from their own mistakes but It is unacceptable for me to stand by while others jeopardize the lives of someone I'm trying to save! I know not were it is that this attitude of yours stems from but it is my recommendation as a doctor that you sit on it and help me.

Re: Healthy Wife, Happy Life
Fay had a moment of clarity, a moment when she was pain free. Once her questions were answered and Fay was cuddled against Jerial, Cerion it seemed, was waking up slowly from passing out. Then the pain, her heart thrummed, the fire racing through her veins. Jerial moved away, she was on a mat, he was arguing, hurting the doctor. She cried out for him, needing to him stop and needing him close. The cry, however, rattled her throat. She coughed, hacked, and could not stop.
Tears streamed down her face as she pulled away her glove, seeing blood. "Jerial..." She rasped looking up, scared. "Please... listen to him. I know you mean the best for me, and I thank you for that but..." She lifted up her glove, blood dripping down it.
"Listen to him, he may be human but he's probably the best chance I've got. I know you hate humans, but please... just let him help me." To the doctor she looked, her eyes calm.
"I don't know you. But you're the best chance I've got. Please forgive my mate-" she broke off hacking, buckling into herself from the pain before straitening, "but as I told another, he'd face off a Changer if he thought it endangered me..." She managed a weak smile, blood dripping out of her mouth slightly. She looked up into Jerial's eyes, feeling frightened of the black swimming in her vision, and managed a small but loving smile.
"I don't just trust you, I love you." She managed before hacking into her hand again, blood now seeping between her fingers.

"By Elohim." That was all Jerial said as he stood, his eyes locked with Fay's. He said it stoically, raising his fist to his chest and bowing his head in deference to the human. To the human. A sour taste rose in his mouth. He swallowed it, and picked Cerion up over his shoulder to quickly carry him away. Kado took him, his expression grim.
Jerial could not look back at the human tending to Fay. He resolved to not take action until he knew she was safe. So he did the best thing he could. He knelt down on the ground, his hands over the base of his skull, and allowed the encroaching darkness to embrace him.
The nightmares came swiftly behind.

Re: Healthy Wife, Happy Life
Tanobi looked solemnly at the mess he had inadvertently created with his attempt at medical intervention. 3 bodies unconscious or dazed with illness lie in the street, and it was this sight that brought about the train of though 'If this persists i will need more stretchers, and I'm fresh out of extra clothing'. Time as of current however was inappropriate by most perspectives to attempt to be a comedian. Tanobi looked to the form of the woman called 'Fay' and felt that he owed her some thanks for her actions.
"Madam Fay while I would normally reprimand a deathly 'ill patient for speaking when they need to conserve their strength, I would like to express my appreciation for your actions." Tanobi descended slowly to one knee grasping the handles of the makeshift stretcher in both hands his walking stick left forgotten as he unsteadily arose to to lift the stranger and began to drag her slowly towards the Alchemist's shop to prevent jarring the woman's body, which would risk further injury. "Come now, your treatment has awaited your company long enough." He attempts to smile even through his grunts and moderate discomfort caused by his left shin.

Re: Healthy Wife, Happy Life
Fay managed a weak smile before hacking again. She wanted to get off the stretcher to help - but nothing would cooperate so she stopped struggling and fought to suppress her hacks. Her body shaking would not help the poor man's efforts... Kado, however, stepped over to help. Gently he pushed the old man away before taking the stretcher himself and dragging Fay the rest of the way, following the little doctor.
Darkness seeped at the edges of her vision, and panic began to set in as she saw Jerial edging away. As the distace between them grew, so did her anxiety.
"Jerial..." She whimpered, having now only realized he'd caused himself to pass out. She whimpered his ame, only more panicky when he didn't respond. As the distace between them grew, Fay became more and more distressed. Finally Kado set Fay down and moved to go pick Jerial up, carrying the elf to Fay.
"Here you go, woman, have your bloody man." She managed a thank-you before coughing again, pulling Jerial to her and holding his unconscious form to her, not noticing the blood from her lips drip down and onto his face and the blood from her glove came off and into his hair even as she pet him. Tears seeped down to meld with the blood.
"I love you..." She manged to rasp out, even as the blackness claimed her. "Please... don't ever leave me..." Kado heard her words and felt vaguely moved. She cared for him, it was true, with all her heart. Hell even a blind man could see that. He turned slightly and muttered to the elf:
"I envy you, man... I really do."

Re: Healthy Wife, Happy Life
Tanobi Led the stranger carrying Fay to the Alchemists shop with all the haste that his limp would allow. not bothering to knock or check the lock he firmly grasps the handle and gives it a hard yank in his direction swinging the door wide open and stands firmly in place while the Stretcher carrying the casualty of recent misfortune made its way inside. Tanobi raises his hand to stifle the questions of the alchemist so that he might take charge of the situation. It was a voice of authority that spoke from the Doctor as he made his intentions clear and quick, time was the essence and should be seldom wasted on pleasantry's.
"I require a bottle of your strongest alcohol, clean rags, and a mortar and pestle." Tanobi moved to a table of sufficient length and width to support the frame of Fay and began to clear it of the miscellaneous ingredients and books. Hearing no noise he turns to the briefly shocked alchemist and raises his voice slightly to show urgency, with his tone leaving little room for defiance. "Now" the platform cleared Tanobi slowly picked the other end of the stretcher up slowly until it was level with the height of the roof of the furniture and sliding Fay slowly onto the table.
That done Tanobi gathered with slow and great care the ingredients to create the agent meant to neutralize the low concentration poison running through the Prone woman on the table, and organizing them neatly and in order of their need to be reduced into a fine powder. After receiving the items he requested he instructs Kado to use the rag after lacing it with alcohol to clean the infections of the Patients bodily wounds. Using the hard wood mortar and pestle he crushed dry plant material into the bottom of the mortar before adding a softer ingredient to turn the mixture into a lumpy green paste.
Bringing the mixture towards Fay he asked what her preference for the consumption of the medicine.
"Would you like to take this raw or watered down Madam Fay?" he presents the concoction to her at an angle its appearance doing little to alleviate how no doubt foul it will taste.
