Headquarters
Silence.
This is what filled every empty space in the building. Somehow, she couldn't even hear her own heart beating, her own breath...
"Ahem..." she muttered, just to make a sound.
Her voice echoed off the high ceilings of the Headquarters, bouncing back at her like a phantom from the past. Traherne hated being here at night, especially when filling in the times between shifts. It was a good hour before the next Guards Shift came to make rounds, and time was passing slowly. Adjusting the strap on her breastplate, the tall woman began to make her way to the front entrance. The tapping of her boots on the marble floors were her only company.
"Fresh air." the Guardswoman told herself, thrusting open the large door.
Stepping lightly down the front steps, the sounds of the outside world rushed through her head. This is more like it... she thought, stretching her arms out infront of her and looking out across the starry sky.
The Great Axe on her back gave off a ghostly glow in the night, the kind one would mistake for playing tricks on the eyes. She reached back and brushed the handle absent-mindedly, her intense eyes shifting back and forth in alert.
"Something's wrong..."

Re: Headquarters [OPEN]
He was dangerously far into the city. He was so close to danger in fact, but he was obviously too stupid to realize it, since he hardly ceased in making all the ruckus just beyond the building of the City Guard not even a block away. Tonight he had found his way into the city through a break in the system, wandering in when nobody was watching the gate for a moment from the woods beyond. This was not an intentional feat; rather, the dragon had merely been in the right (or wrong) place at the right (or wrong) time, depending of course on what happened to him when someone discovered a 'magic' creature had just sort of snuck its way into Marn.
He'd found a trash bin. God's gift to any struggling creature, surely. Making a whole lot of noise, he must've attracted attention for anybody that was paying attention, what with his obvious growls and drooling and sharp snorts. Why he hadn't been shot to death by an Elven archer (who could probably see him from the Guard's fortress) was anyone's guess.
If he'd had the sense, he might've thanked somebody, God or otherwise that he wasn't actually inside the fortress. If he was, he'd probably be dead despite his fairly harmless appearance.
Eventually, he somehow got the bin to flip over onto his body, and with the new darkness he let out a squeal and began to run, appearing to anyone as a sentient, moving bin on the run.

Re: Headquarters [OPEN]
Trae was standing unnaturally still at this point; Listening to the sounds of the crashing bin in the distance, trying to figure out which direction it was coming from. She turned on a heel and headed around the Watch building and crossed the street torward the noise, her dark hair bouncing and she picked up the pace.
"What the in the---" she sputtered the generic confused phrase at the sight of the frankentrashbin.
She gripped her axe warely, holding it infront of her as the bin squealed and spilled trash into the street. Trae had the expression of a person who thought she might be seeing things, looking over her shoulder in hopes that a random somebody could confirm what she was witnessing.
When the manic bin wandered into her comfort zone, Trae's first instinct was to chop it in half with her axe, but she kicked it instead. The bin flipped backwards anti-climatically, exposing the sad creature.
"D-d-....." she forgot the word, "How did you get in here?"
She asked this as if asking a eyropian-speaking person, which probably wouldn't mean much to the creature.

Re: Headquarters [OPEN]
A dragon...
It was unmistakable. He'd seen a few on his travels, of course most were of a much more threatening nature. His father spun a tale of a fear inspiring Dragon the size of a mountain that thundered both fire and lighting far to the east, however this creature wasn't exactly 'mountain" sized.
The woman was of the City Guard, or at least in association with them. There was an air of capability from the female, and the axe she bore was no mundane trinket. Still it was large for a woman of her stature, but seeing her handle it as she strode forth and made her discovery, told Darius that her ability was beyond that of a novice fighter.
From his position he could have fired a bolt into the creatures head, if its natural armor had yet to harden. Still there were probably laws about killing creatures within the city. City-folk were always on about their rules.
"Dragon know not words..." He said as he revealed himself from the shadows of the nearby ally. His soft speech was thick with an accent that made his words sound almost foreign, and spoken so as to not frighten the animal into running away. He placed the arrow he had palmed back into place and spoke again.
"They eat...sleep, but no talk." He said gruffly as he eyed the creature. The hide would bring a good price at the bazaar in Thar Lydera, where dragon scales were both a rare delicacy and highly prized. Luck it seemed was on his side for once.

Re: Headquarters [OPEN]
The phrase "hard as a dragon's scales" of course did not apply to the small domestic creatures more suited as a pet than a ferocious beast. His scales, though pretty, were really quite useless except perhaps to make a nice purse out of. True dragon scales on the other hand were expensive, strong, and used in some places for both weapons and armor.
As his bin was flipped over, the new light (though still quite dark) revealed a very tall lady an even taller man, both with large bodies, efficient weapons, and dark skin. The dragon gasped mildly and squealed in fight, hopping back with stubby limbs but not bothering to actually run. It appeared that the whole idea of self-preservation was also lost during the dumbing down process of domesticating an infamous creature such as the dragon. So, the creature just stood there, shaking at the knees even though he didn't fully recognize that both arrow and axe could easily have him done and over with in a jiffy.
They made noises and he made a couple noises back, a bit frightened but stupidly interested in these two humans; after all, they could be carrying food. He sniffed at them lightly for a moment but did not step closer, and then offered a light squeaky growling noise innocently.
He didn't seem to realize he was probably inches from death right there, and simply stared at the man with a puzzled, dull expression. They seemed as surprised to see him as he was to see them. He hadn't come in contact with any people for a good long while.

Re: Headquarters [OPEN]
Traherne did a bizaar thing just then; An action that probably resenated within her as a distinctly woman trait, inherited against her will as her foremothers did aswell. A maternal notion, an alien desire to...protect...protect something small and defenseless.
"Wait just a mintue you." She waved her arm to this man-of-the-shadows in a dismissive way, "This thing is clearly....well.... It's not much of anything, really."
Then came the odd part; she knelt down on one knee, balancing one side of her body with her upright axe, and with her free hand she rubbed her thumb and fingers together. It was the sort of gesture that suggested you had food in your hand.
Traherne clicked her tongue against the roof of her mouth.
"Here you are, lil' guy. Come here. Nice dragon."
The axe warrior glanced up at the foriegn man beside her, her green eyes seemed illuminated in the dark.
"New here? I don't recognize your face." She asked, returning her gaze to the reptile.

Re: Headquarters [OPEN]
Darius smiled and shook his head as the woman knelt to be gentle to the small creature. It always amazed him the gentile nature of the city-folk. "Play at him while you can maiden... a few years hence he'd be making supper of your fellow guards if given half the chance.", his words were directed at her, but his eyes studied the nearby buildings, ever cautious of who else might be listening. He was not a wanted man, but he had his enemies as all men did.

He sighed and placed the blackened arrow back into its bag, and slung the curved bow back around his shoulder. As he did so he so the woman inquired of his face. "... I hail from Thar Lydera."
He removed his hood, exposing the dark tattoo marks around his eyes that marked his heritage as a nomad. "My name is Rhun, Darius Rhun." He nodded his head forward as a formal greeting. In truth he was a bit annoyed, the creature was worth more dead then alive, unless of course there was a menagerie somewhere that would pay a hefty price for it.
"And you? I have yet to see a guard of the city that bares such an interesting weapon, or that have a soft spot for creatures such as this." He said a bit suspiciously. There was something there, something beyond her eyes that seemed...oddly familiar.

Re: Headquarters [OPEN]
Caiomhe had gotten away from the inn. After that giant, fuzzy ball of destruction had smashed into the side of the building she didn't care what happened to her, as long as she was away from Alter Corin, who seemed to draw havoc and chaos wherever he went. Cai herself liked the quiet life... well, alright, no she didn't, but she could say she did. She was blind, after all, and thus entitled to at least some pity and semblance of normality. Granted, that didn't stop her from causing a small form of panic in her recent escapades of turning fingernails pretty colors--even if she couldn't see the results, she did enjoy the shrieks.
Her hands were held out at her sides to fend off buildings, but that didn't stop her from running sideways into one. Cursing in a musical language she rubbed the side of her face, removing dirt and gods-only-knew what else that the bricks of Marn had accumulated over the years. Voices made her halt and she suddenly wondered about Iarei, the girl Alter had said he was going to swindle. She let out a short bark of a laugh, quite at contrast with her speech, when she thought that. She'd smelled blood in the room next to hers, Alter's room, and she hadn't wanted to investigate. She wasn't that loyal to him, despite the fact that he was kind to her.
Caiomhe leaned against the wall that had attacked her face and hand, straining her sensitive ears to make out words. She smelled a tang like... her nose wrinkled as she sniffed burning gas and sulfur and a hanging stink on the air. Coughing lightly she tried to clear her lungs of the corrosive stench, with mixed results. Turning her attention back to the speakers she got an idea of what they were speaking about, even though her language skills weren't up to par with the locals.
A guard. That could be a problem, but there was absolutely nothing to link her with the wreck of the inn, she was innocent anyway, and the fuzzy ball was nothing a blind girl could help. However, she had a general distrust of the law and especially soldiers, as it was a group of the bastards that had smeared lye into her eyes and caused her blindness. Ah well. As long as the guard wasn't wearing gloves, Cai was fine. It never escaped her that she didn't know about the gloves until after they brushed her arm or something, but it was something that couldn't be helped. Caiomhe decided to wait for a little while, to see if they would say anything interesting. Either way, stay or go, she was happy to be away from the destroyed inn.

Re: Headquarters [OPEN]
The dragon hiccoughed mildly, as if he had planned on blowing foul-smelling gas but then had it backfire when a hand was kindly offered to him. A small bit of gas escaped him anyway, but it quickly dissipated into the air. With that, he sneezed and then promptly shoved his nose into the hand that was apparently holding some sort of edible substance. The clicking of tongue and calm voice only hastened his actions and he was soon licking the feminine hand stupidly as if it had food draped all over it. Each finger was quickly coated in a layer of dragon saliva.
He snorted when he realized that she didn't have any food after all and made a clicking, chirping sound to express his obvious distaste. The man nearest them spoke a bunch of blabber and moved that odd piece of cloth he wore over his head to show his whole face.
One of the ear-like appendages below his horns flicked softly at another presence, and he turned his small, russet head to look at nothing, as if expecting the small noise he had heard to also magically create food. He turned back to the woman and shoved his nose at her hand forcefully, noisily speaking a short, demanding, "Rahmf."

Trae accepted the slobber like a trooper, shaking her hand only once to remove the majority, making a sticky sound as it oozed onto the street.
"Lovely." She mumbled, listening to the lizard as it clicked back at her in confusion, "This guy is nothing to worry about, Rhun. This dragon isn't getting any bigger. It's a domestic breed. And with those soft scales, I can't imagine he's worth as much as your thinking."
The Dragon made a frustrated grunting noise, and Trae smiled. She had a raven back at home that was about the same size, if not bigger than this reptile. Funny enough, he reminded her of Seiriol quite a lot; Perhaps they were evolutionary cousins.
The woman rose back to her intimidating height next to her shadowy friend, axe firmly in hand.
"My name is Traherne Wynford."
Her glowing eyes seemed to trace the markings around the man's eyes before matching his gaze briefly. Then, she promptly scooped up the dragon and held it very firmly under one arm as if it weighed no more than a pillow.
"I'm taking you with me." She cooed softly to the creature, "I've got food."
Slinging the mighty axe upon her shoulder, she turned to head back to HQ.
"Come with me." She called over her shoulder to the hunter, unaware of anyone else lurking in the vicinity.

Re: Headquarters [OPEN]
Darius watched as the creature lapped up the woman's attention, and almost chuckled as its attention waned once it realized there was no food to back up the woman's cooing. Still, he marveled that the woman hadn't lost her hand to the beast. It had obviously been living near people for some time, how strange these city folk were.
"Wyn-ford" he repeated sounding her name out. There was an odd quality to the name, vowels in places he wasn't used to.
As recalled his initial thoughts to the creature he felt one particular part of his mind throb with pain, and he cursed himself as he winced. The guilt struck like a hot knife to his temple. There was only one quick solution to the pain...
The beasts attention went elsewhere for a moment, and with that he grimaced and placed his hand inside the small pack and withdrew a small dried piece of meat. He took a step or two and extended his hand offering the creature the small morsel with a casual ease. Suddenly he noticed the creatures attention turned towards a corner a few meters away. It was obvious it's ears had detected something, and he looked back at the animal.
"Sense something do you?" He said with an up turned eyebrow. Perhaps this small dragon could be of some use other then its hide. He then saw evidence of a figure who's shadow was clear from a torch on the far side of the block. "A moment Wyn-ford..." He said as he warned with his hands of another in their presence.
"Show yourself freely, there be no enemies here. Dropping eaves can be dangerous sport." He said sternly as he felt the handle of his short sword a moment, in case a mugger happened to believe he had found easy prey...

Caiomhe rolled her sightless eyes, but stepped out onto the street with the others. "Donnae ye be a'lecturin' meself aboot sneakin' aboot, ye hear? I am a'needin' nae o' yer sassin' me aboot danger an' the like."
She pretended to look around, counting on the dim light to hide her abnormally milky-green eyes. She'd found that when she was meeting people it was a better idea to not show them blatantly that she was blind. Of course, most people guessed relatively quickly anyway, but Cai had gotten pretty good at hiding her lack of sight. She fixed her eyes, shadowed in the depths of her hood, on the man who had spoken. "Ye ken what I'm a'sayin'? I've been wanderin' fer roundaboots five years noo... ye keep a civil tongue en yer 'ead when yer a'speakin' tae me." It didn't occur to her for an instant that an older, bigger, stronger man might not like being lectured by a nineteen-year-old girl, but Cai hadn't cared before and she wasn't the least bit inclined to start now.
She stopped and sniffed, looking over at the dragon. Again, she wasn't quite focused on him, her eyes looking slightly over his left shoulder. "An' ye! Ye need a bath, ye stinky lit'l fiend. Ey, ye..." she called to the guard, "Donnae ye never wash yer dragon?"

Re: Headquarters [OPEN]
The woman scooped her up, but not before the dragon had the chance to snatch that bit of meat right out of the man's outstretched hand. The creature let his head band back and he swallowed the morsel in less than a couple seconds. He lacked the muscles, jaw, and teeth for proper chewing. He purred a sort of growl of mild satisfaction, though he was eager for more. He struggled only momentarily in the woman's muscular arms before he was still. She supported him easily and all he felt like doing then was flicking his fat tail happily.
The man quickly turned though and went to investigate the source of the noise and spoke to nothing, but it was then that an interesting girl popped out of no where.
The dragon chirped loudly.
She was not near enough to them to appear threatening, but nonetheless, the dragon began making gurgling noises at her and eventually started to snap his small mouth open and shut. She had an odd air that he wasn't fond of. Then again, maybe she had food?

The Guardswoman turned as Darius halted her; Turning on a boot heel just as the blind woman appeared from the dark alleyway. She felt the little dragon's body writhe gently as it's tail swished back and forth under her arm.
"Excuse me, Miss. Is there a reason you're wandering about at this time of night? Do you need assistance returning home?"
She could have guessed the answer, as many strange looking folk such as this wandered the streets at night with nowhere to be. It annoyed her quite a bit, and she often tried to think of place she could just put them so they wouldn't be in the way.
The dragon gurgled.
Trae's eyes began to shine in the dark, her axe's ghostly glow seemed to expand upwards from the hilt like smoke rising from an ashened fire. The guardswoman narrowed her eyes, studying the woman before her with rising suspicion.
She glanced over at Darius, expecting him to say something, though she wasn't sure why. There was certainly an interesting vibe about him, probably because he was the travelling sort. Those who've roamed many places often carry an etheral energy.
But that was aside from the point.
Traherne was getting impatient. The lizard under her arm did smell and it was wriggling about annoyingly. She wanted to take it back to the HQ building and register it, and that took time. Lots of paperwork asking redundant questions. Plus there was Darius, who would need to fill out seperate paperwork regarding the fact that he wittnessed the dragon being taken into custody by the law, and by the sound of his accent, she would more than likely have to fill out the papers for him.

Re: Headquarters [OPEN]
"I doubt she has a place to stay, Lady Wynfold... if what she says about the wandering is true." He said cocking his head to side sizing up the forward girl.
The girls words were more those of a highwayman more then those of a young woman. Instantly he recognized a soul that had seen many hard times, either that or a rude guttersnipe with the manner of barbarian. Yet there was something charming in her easily offended nature. It reminded Darius of the hill-folk, though she was clearly not of their lineage, being that she lacked apparent facial hair.
"I meant no offense, only that there are those who don't treat large wandering ears kindly." He replied after taking a breath and looking back to Wynfold with a simple smile. He looked back to the girl observing her careful nature, she seem to amble forward her steps measured as if her sight was not entirely normal.
"Come, talk with us a while, I would learn the name of a girl who speaks so boldly and plain, and I'm sure this kind lady of the guard would be a gentle host to two strangers in her midst. Perhaps you can even instruct us on the proper way to clean a small dragon." His words took on a sarcastic bite as he turned to follow Wynfold.
He would leave the girl to make her own mind. The girl would either pass on, back to her toil, or entreat with them, either way the nights conversation would be interesting indeed.
