Dorcas Euryale Tansy is a fifteen-year-old British national, the daughter of Osbourne Nielsen, a Norwegian businessman, and Stheno Tansy, a Greek-Italian businesswoman. She was raised in Manchester, England, in the non-magical world’s Industrial era, under the custody of her mother. Stheno Tansy is once divorced, thrice widowed, and counting, currently with her fifth husband. Nielsen fathered Dorcas’s half-brother, Jakob, with Mallorie DuPois, an Austrian chorus line dancer.

Dorcas’s build and facial structure reflect her mixed ethnicity. She is very tall for a girl of her age, broad of shoulders and hips, brawny, and visibly well fed. She boasts a Mediterranean nose—long, prominent, and beakish. Her cheekbones bear Mediterranean influence as well, full and chiseled above her softer lower cheeks. Her jaw is sharp and square, framing a large, blunt chin and narrow mouth. Her eyes are uninteresting, small, a nondescript shade of brown, below a more expressive brow. She looks older than her years, and could be mistaken for as old as eighteen or nineteen.

As a fifteen-year-old girl, Dorcas has a sense of fashion that is just forming, and though her style of dress is likely to change as often as the weather, certain trends remain. She usually keeps herself excessively made-up, using thick eyeliner, brightly colored eyelid paints, and colorful lip salves. Her choices in clothing are more often than not fairly modest in respect to her feminine assets, but flaunt her developed muscles. Most often she is seen sleeveless, as her most impressive muscles are her deltoids, biceps, triceps, and those of her forearms, all of which are developed beyond what is widely considered standard for even a well-toned woman. She keeps her medium blonde hair at a blunt shoulder length.

Dorcas arrived in Thar Shaddin accidentally. Being sent to a girls’ boarding school in Switzerland, Dorcas bribed her coachman Bosley to leave her instead in Bordeaux. The coachman, by mysterious means, brought the girl to Thar Shaddin and drove off immediately. It is probable that this was under Stheno’s orders, and hints at the mother’s possession of supernatural powers. Either Stheno or Bosley maintains some form of interplanar travel ability. The reasons for Dorcas’s being sent to Thar Shaddin are unknown to her.

She arrived in Thar Shaddin with a trunk of clothes and school books to her name, and accompanied by a pet Norwegian forest cat called Boycat. Shortly after her arrival, Dorcas sustained significant flesh wounds, internal bruising, and a broken rib from a series of events involving a runaway automobile and an attempt to flee from city guards. She eventually ended up in jail and without medical care. Her cellmates decided to take advantage of the related state of pandemonium in the city to break out of the jail, and thus she escaped without facing a sentence for crimes she didn’t commit.

Since unceremoniously parting ways with her cellmates, Dorcas found work—in return for bed and board—as a scullery maid at a small tavern in town. With her wounds largely healed in the few months that she’s kept herself out of trouble, she has regained her assertive confidence and bullying style. Dorcas does her best to exert control over the two other maids in the building, as she yearns to claw her way up to a more dignified position.
