What? What was happening? Where was she being taken? Soneya could barely breathe, let alone keep properly on her feet. She was dragged along the alley more than anything and it was with shock that Soneya realised that she was being removed from any potential interference. This did not bode well, not well at all.
All the fire she might have felt before in wanting to defy the woman, in calling her a witch to her face – twice – had vanished in the blink of an eye and all that was left was paralysing fear. The further away she was taken, the more her heart was pumping, the less she could breathe, a fact that wasn’t aided by the previous kick either.
The woman’s words were chilling her to her bone however and for a moment, she felt cold rather than hot from rising panic and she wanted to get away now before it was too late. But at the same time she knew that it already was too late. She had said too much, she had waited too long to try and escape, she was too weak to do anything to defend herself now.
The first blow was a shock. The second made her cry out. The third already came as more of a blur as she was still digesting the first two. All the ones that followed... At some point Soneya probably blacked out for a while, drowning in a pounding headache and aches all over. Maybe a rib or two were broken. Her nose probably too. She couldn’t be sure, she wasn’t paying attention. It all happened so fast, yet at the same time the beating seemed to last for hours.

Re: Collide
Qamra was careful. She had no intention of killing the girl, nor crippling her. Yet even with that in mind she had no mercy for the brat; the beating needed to be severe, and it needed to hurt. She was mute to the sounds the girl made, blind to the expressions that passed over her face. This was tough love, albeit bereft of most of the affection that would have been behind similar beatings given to her sons over the course of their training. Necessity made it right, and even if it wasn't she would have done it anyways. Sometimes unpleasant things were necessary. Qamra had never shied away from that.
When she was done, Qamra looked at the blood she'd gotten on herself with some small amount of disgust. It wasn't much -- she'd not made the girl bleed so badly -- but it would leave stains, and if there was anything Qamra hated it was to get blood on clothing where it showed. She was a vain woman. There was nothing wrong with wanting to look one's best.
She put her hands on her hips, and looked down at the girl. "Do you understand?"
She wondered if the girl was capable of speech at that moment. With a sigh, she stooped to pick the girl up. She had to return to the hospital in any case, and it wouldn't hurt to cement the lesson with a visit in the morning.
Bending, with the amount of activity she'd just forced her body to, proved too much for her lungs. She launched into a coughing fit, vulnerable for precious seconds as her lungs spasmed in an effort to clear mucous from their depths. By the end of it Qamra had left a patch of slime on the ground, and it mixed in with the splatters of blood. She wiped her mouth with her hand, and then picked Soneya up. She was wheezing, and resigned herself to a vicous scolding.
"This city," she muttered, "needs a good clean burn."

Re: Collide
Most of what happened was a blur and Soneya wasn’t quite sure what exactly happened, though she was aware, very aware even, of the pain lancing through her body. At some point however, her throat was too sore to scream any longer, nor did she have any tears left to cry. Letting herself drift into a sort of lethargic state in which she simply endured the woman’s beatings, Soneya’s mind clouded over.
Something within it snapped, though she couldn’t be sure what it was. Over and over she kept repeating the phrase “magic is bad” in her head like a mantra. She was getting physical proof that magic was bad and that anyone using it was evil. Why else would the woman try to beat her to a pulp? Why else would she have reacted like this if Soneya hadn’t told her she was a dirty magic user? That had to be the reason and the knowledge thereof made walls snap into place in her head, walls she did not even want to try to understand or surmount.
When she woke in a hospital bed with daylight streaming in through a small window, Soneya was completely disoriented. She had no idea how she had gotten there or what else had happened to her the night before. Had someone finally found and saved her from the nightmare that had befallen her?
Stirring, she tried to lift onto her elbows and from there into a sitting position but with a painful sob, she let herself drop back into the pillow. She wouldn’t be doing that for a while. There was no way for her to tell just how many broken bones she had, but there were quite a few. Her face felt swollen now that she had begun to focus on her injuries and wiggling her fingers proved to be very painful as well. With no one sitting next to her to tell her what was going on or to comfort her, Soneya started crying, terror gripping her as she didn’t know what was going on or what had happened. Was this even a Marn hospital? Where was she?!

Re: Collide
Qamra shuffled into the room Soneya had been put up in, eyes almost golden in the morning light. Maybe it was that same light that turned her features from an unsettling seeming into grotesquery, or maybe it was the incongruity of her misshapen face placed against the very ordinary hospital garment she wore. Whatever the case, she looked out of place. She was also not as robust as she'd been the night before; her skin was pale and washed out, and her back was bent ever so slightly.
The pride was still there.
"The sun rises and you're still alive, thanks to me." Qamra spoke, her voice strong. That effort showed. "You'll not see me again, changers willing, but I want you to know that I'll be in your city. Waiting. Watching. I might even watch you. Keep a civil tongue in your head girl, because the next lesson you receive may not be so gentle."
Qamra bared her mess of teeth in a smile.

Re: Collide
When the door suddenly opened, Soneya’s head instantly snapped towards the sound in hopes of someone coming in to check up on her, someone who could tell her what was going on. In a way, her wish was fulfilled, but definitely not in the manner she had hoped for the person walking towards her was someone she had hoped never to lay eyes on ever again.
Just as ugly as the day before, if not even more haggard, the woman who had given her such a hard time and who was responsible for her being tied to this bed had come to speak to her. As much as Soneya wanted to yell at the woman for having done this to her, she instinctively shrank back in fear. She didn’t want to get another beating. She didn’t want to be shouted at again. She just wanted to be left in peace. Why was nobody else here?
The words the woman spoke were not quite what Soneya had expected however. Instead of another reprimand or insult, it almost sounded like a peace offering – with an underlying tone of warning, but a peace offering nonetheless. At least Soneya would be left in peace, most likely, which was more than she could ask for at the moment and it was what she wanted. She may not agree with the treatment having been gentle or with her being alive because of the woman – then again she had no idea what had happened after a certain moment – but she agreed whole-heartedly with never seeing the woman again.
Unsure where this suddenly came from, the young girl nodded, almost offering the woman a smile. She would keep a civil tongue. She would. And she would avoid magic wherever she possibly could. She would not be involved with any magic users ever again and she would keep her opinions to herself.
When the ugly smile appeared on the woman’s face however, Soneya cringed again. Yeah, smiling at this person was not really something she wanted to do, or could do had she wanted to. It was just too repulsing. Those teeth.. and the tusks... Shuddering, the young girl gripped the sheets so tightly that her knuckles turned white.
Forcing the words out, as she wanted to prove that she would take the advice to heart, Soneya said with clenched teeth: “I wish you luck in your endeavours. Good bye.”

Re: Collide
Huh. Chit had a spine in her, that was for sure. Still, there wasn't anything to do about it in a hospital, even though Qamra was sure a slap or two might do her good. Besides, her lungs wouldn't put up with it, and that was a fact. So it was that Qamra nodded and turned, lifting a hand in a careless wave of farewell. She managed to reach her dingy little bed before the coughing fit hit her. Once she'd spat out the mucous and managed to stop before the dry heaves began, she flopped down on the bed.
"Sorry, Martialis," she croaked up at the ceiling. "I'm not coming home."
Marn was going to have to put up with her for as long as it took.
