Kori stood and stretched. He was bored. He stuck his head close to the door.

"Hey! I'm bored. When I get bored I start breaking shit!"

Maybe that would work. He couldn't do anything in here. He could sing some more, but he couldn't remember any songs. He could work out to burn off the extra energy, but he also didn't care for that. He could headbutt the wall. He touched the goose egg from the anvil. On second thought.....

"Hey! Anyone know any good songs or stories? Its my nap time. I need a goodnight story."

He doubted anyone wanted to bother with him. It didn't pay to fuck around in a prison. He was huge though, and most of the others were small. The only way they could really get him would be magic. He growled just a bit when he thought of that one bastard who hit him with lightning.

At least they left me my hammer. He held the symbol of the northern Gods around his neck in his hand and thought. There was no telling what his life would entail from now on.

Belatucadrus had not been the only one that Porter had informed about the recent break in. Judge Vincas, had been among those that had received the early morning wake up call. As one of the twelve Judges of Religious, Cultural and Ethical Enforcement, it was Vincas who would see to the trial of these criminals.

The elderly man had pulled himself out of bed, dressed in his usual black robe, and made one of his rare appearances within Justice Hall. He was a man who took his job very seriously, he upheld the law and made sure that others did the same. Each one of these criminals would be held accountable for his or her crimes and face a punishment accordingly.

Porter had been asked to brief the man on each one of the participants and the actions taken upon by each. While he knew that the vampire would want to be present for the questioning of the woman who spearheaded the operation, Vincas concerned himself with her co-conspirators and what he was going to do with them. He believed strongly in fair trials and doing things according to the law, to the books. However, he had a choice to make.

He had been spending many hours these last few weeks looking into matters concerning this underground movement that seemed to be gaining attention. His usual sources knew little of what was going on or who was behind it. What little he had gathered was either gossip, rumors or distributed material put out by some man who referred to himself as The Editor. He had some suspicions that the mage guild could be behind this but this seemed to be beyond their doing. This movement could grow quickly if not kept in check.

He wanted to know more. He wanted information he could trust and reliable sources but his choices were limited. There was a chance that if he went with a government paid snitch that their informant could be spotted. There was the risk that if they brought in somebody they didn't trust that this person might be less than honest with him. What he needed was somebody with something to lose that could be offered a chance at redeeming themselves.

Vincas along with Porter and a few of his young assistants, entered the basement. He approached Battlemage Rhozas and placed a wrinkled hand on his shoulder in a gesture that was meant to both gain the man's full attention and show that he would be handling the matter. It was a fatherly gesture that Rhozas was sure to recognize, the mage most likely used it on his own children, it was one that said, 'you've done a good job but I'll be taking over now.'

He shared a silent moment in which he looked in the eyes of the Battlemage before speaking. "Go home to your wife and children. Get some sleep. If we have any questions we can send for you."

He then turned to Porter and ordered that both the young human and young elf be taken out of their cells and brought before him. He waited only a moment and lead the up the flight of stairs and through a series of hallways that had not been there the last time the young men had been above ground.

"I am going to ask that the two of you listen carefully to what I have to say. You will answer my questions truthfully, you will do as you are told and you will not attempt to flee the city. I am offering you a choice to lessen your punishment."

He held open a door to a hidden room in the back of the building.

"If you choose to help us, we will look favorably upon your actions at your trial. However, if you choose not to be of help, you can return to your cells to wait for a trial date to be set. The choice is yours."

The room Vincas had taken the two housed the three scryers Justice Hall kept as a means of gathering information. Three highly drugged individuals that could hardly be considered human anymore. They were physically and mentally handicapped as a means of keeping them in check, but as was the unspoken agreement, it was another necessary evil to help protect the city.

The boys would be questioned as to their motives, whether they would be willing to help and if they would be foolish enough to try to escape when offered a small chance at freedom. The scryers would ensure that Vincas got his answers without having to result to less humane methods.

They were lucky Vincas got to them first, if Moryldar was the one to question them they would be answering in blood, flesh and bone.

Talion was first to enter the room. He limped forward as he tried to stand up straight and put as little weight as possible his damaged leg. When the mages had cuffed him and placed within a cell, they had taken away his walking stick along with his other possessions. He had had to make it upstairs and through the maze of a building on his own to feet, so when he saw two chairs sitting within the glare granted by what little light remained inside, he pushed himself forward rather than continue to stand and endure more pain.

His face still throbbed but for the time being it was his leg that bothered him more. He sat down in one of the chairs and for a moment concentrated on nothing more than massaging the tender spot along the calf muscle.

The scryers who had previously been relatively quiet began to react to the intrusion of people into their private space. They mumbled a combination of words and phrases in various languages as well as a fair amount of gibberish. They'd stare at the ceiling, then the newcomers, they'd avert this eyes, stare at Vincas and back at each other. It was hard to tell if they were in some way trying to communicate or suffering some kind of mental breakdown. One began to vigorously rub at it's face, as if trying to clean it but it's face showed no sign of being dirty.

Vincas stood behind the chairs. He placed a hand on top of each and forward, placing his head between each so that he would not have to raise his voice.

"Why did you boys break into Justice Hall and what was it you hoped to gain in the process?"

Talion was silent for only a moment but seeing the way the strange things acted touching themselves and moaning, it encouraged him to speak up for no other reason than to hope it would mean he could leave all the sooner.

"The woman in gold, she offered to pay us...if we helped her. She wanted a book, she didn't say why."

He looked over at the things again but one of them stared at him and smiled, if it could be considered a smile. The things acted possessed. Their actions seemed involuntary but they stilled smiled and laughed through their gibberish and it made him feel all the more uncomfortable.

"You said you wanted to help us?" Tal began to ramble as he did everything he could to keep from making eye contact with the scryers. "How? What do you want with us? It was the woman who paid us to help her. She said she would kill us if we didn't help...just like with that girl. We made it in the door but we never found a book. The light went out and we got lost. That voice threatened us and I hid until the mages locked us up."

"I see" was all that Vincas said. "And you?" He looked at the other young man.

"She needed a thief, I'd pickpocketed her and she threatened me. . ." Anther was sweating. He'd been rudely awoken, dragged and settled into some plane of doom. Magic prickled at him, something foul, warning and warbling that he was close to wretchedness. The word Theogios was shaped upon his lips, but he didn't speak it. Something had kept him safe in the dark. He hadn't been watching, but he hadn't been taken by astral spawned daimons. No one had, he could tell.

"I want out," he whispered. "I wanna be safe from magic."
