Wulf

Post by Wulf » Tue Nov 22, 2011 5:51 pm

Name: Wulf
Age: 24
Race: Half-Elf
Height: 6'0"
Weight: 145 lbs.
Eyes: Green
Hair: Black
Physical Description:

Tall and slender, with long and quick fingers. Wulf is tall and tanned, with long black dreadlocks that reach the middle of his back and forest green eyes. He wears a simple brown leather jerkin and brown leather pants. Wulf goes barefoot at almost all times, and has brown leather boots for when he does wear shoes. His Half-Elven heritage shows through in his slightly pointed ears. He has three scars that travel from his left cheekbone by his ear down to the left part of his chin.

Possessions :

Amulet: An amulet given to him by his mother, it's a carved wooden disc with the sun on one side and the moon on the other.

Steel Dagger: A small dagger that Wulf wears on his belt, it's as much for cutting his meat as it is for protection. Still, it is good steel and he keeps it sharp.

Satchel: A small leather pack that Wulf keeps his boots, food, drink, and anything else he likes and has on him at the time in.

Bow and Quiver: Wulf has a longbow made of yew. It has been well cared for, and it rests across his back when not in use, forming an X with the quiver facing the opposite direction. Wulf prefers to use arrows with birch shafts, iron heads, and goose feather fletching.

Powers or Strengths:

Stealth: Wulf ca be like a shadow when he wants to be, a product of growing up in the woods. He doesn't make much noise even when he isn't trying to be sneaky, but when he is trying he is almost undetectable.

Tracking : Wulf is an excellent tracker. Growing up as a hunter with his father, he learned to follow signs at a young age. He can tell you how long someone passed through and if they were carrying a lot of equipment just by looking at there tracks.

Archery: Wulf is a good archer. He grew up shooting at animals that could run fast at any given moment, so he is able to sight, draw, and loose an arrow at a target in a matter of seconds. Granted, his quickness doesn't always help, he does miss sometimes. He gets to excited and shoots, and fouls up the shot, missing the vital areas or missing entirely.

Sun Magic: Once a day, Wulf can draw energy from the sun for around 30 minutes. It doesn't make him any stronger in any way, it merely replenishes his energy if he is tired. He can't live of of it by any means, he can just go longer after using it. In order to use it, he has to calm himself completely, and sit in the full sunshine and absorb the energy he needs. He is unable to do this on a cloudy or rainy day, and in the winter it doesn't work as well for some reason.

Weaknesses and Flaws:

Issues With Racism: Wulf was told from a young age that he would be hated for his mixed heritage. He sees that while not as bad as he was told, racism and hatred still happen in Marn. He doesn't make new friends easily, and is constantly thinking that something is going to happen to him because he is Half-Something. He has a mistrust of both humans and elves, viewing them as racist because he was always told they would be.

Emotionally Distant: Wulf believes that all emotions are personal. Emotions shouldn't be shown. He doesn't show his anger or sadness, though he will smile every now and then. When someone cries or loses their temper in front of him, Wulf is disgusted by their lack of self-control, which to the half-elf hunter is everything. While some people would feel moved by a person crying in fear or pain, Wulf would rather them shut up. The only perk to his hearing loss is he doesn't have to hear it, and he would rather not even have to see it.

Deaf: Wulf fell out of a tree when he was 16, landing on his head. His parents didn't know if he would live or die, but live he did. When he awoke from the coma, Wulf wasn't hearing as well. As time progressed, he lost his hearing entirely. Now, he can't hear anything at all, but he can read lips and his speech isn't very impaired. He knows how to make the sounds, but he can't control the volume of his voice.

Paranoia: Before his 20th birthday, Wulf knew three people. His mother, his father, and an old trader that came by their home once a year to trade supplies for furs. When he decided to leave home, he started meeting more people. His first experience with towns was Shim, and he couldn't believe so many people lived in one place. Now that he has journeyed to Marn, it shocks him even more.

In a small group, Wulf can be okay. The more people that are there, the more his anxiety rises that he is missing part of the conversation, or that someone is behind him that intends to hurt him, and he starts to hyperventilate and sweat profusely. This makes him more and more paranoid, he sleeps with a dagger under his pillow and sits with his back to the wall at all places he goes to, with an eye on as many entrances as possible.

History:

Wulf was born to a Elf man named Erak and a Human woman named Dorotheia. Fearing that they and their child would be treated with prejudice, they built a small cabin in the woods were Erak hunted and made his living. There, they thought they could live their lives and raise their child in peace, far from others and their prejudices. When he was born, Wulf inherited his mothers black hair and his fathers green eyes. Growing up in the forest brought a different view point of the world to Wulf. His father didn't kill many animals for the furs he needed to sustain their living, so while a meat eater, Wulf doesn't believe in senselessly killing animals. After seeing some of the ways other hunters killed or captured prey, or left the carcass behind after just taking the fur or the alchemy ingredients they were paid to get, Wulf grew to hate what he began to call 'cruel hunters', believing that if you couldn't kill an animal cleanly, without coming as close to killing it as instantly as possible, you shouldn't be a hunter at all.

As he grew older, he began to wonder about the world outside and other people. The only experiences he had with others like him were his parents, the trader his father dealt with, and the other hunters he observed from the shadows of the trees. When Wulf lost his hearing, his father helped him learn to read lips, and they expanded on a hand signal system they had always used in the woods in order to continue to communicate. Wulf knew how to talk, he knew how to say the words that he knew, but he couldn't control the volume of the word and had a hard time learning new words.

He was given his scars by a large cat in the woods, he got to close to her den and was attacked. His mother no longer wanted him out in the woods with his father, ever since the accident where he lost his hearing, she had been worried about him. His father agreed, and the one thing that Wulf loved, the woods, was taken from him. He grew to hate what his parents forced him into. They had raised him in the woods, and that was all he knew and loved, and know they had taken it away from him. He finally came to the decision it was time to leave.

When he was 20, he decided he wanted to see more of the world than his mother and father could give him and left home. He also neglected to tell his parents he was leaving, and took the items he considered his and left in the dark of night. He hasn't been home yet, but he does miss it. He's sure that his mother and father worry about him, but he can't continue to be there little boy. He wants to make his own way, and become his own man. The new world of people is exciting, terrifying, and fun.

Wulf stays off the crowded streets, prefering the smaller alleyways to get around. The pressing crush on the main streets gets to him, making him panic almost to the point of passing out. Even as crowded as it is, he loves the markets, for their colors, smells, and sights. He tends to stay back in the shadows though. His quick eyes have spotted many things that go on in the back alleys of Marn, and because he can read lips, it amazes him how many people will talk about their secret dealings around him because they know he can't hear him. He has begun to frequent taverns, and after a few tries, found ones with a small amount of clientele and accommodating staff.

Right now, he resides in the Historic District of Marn, where he helps out the other people who are worse off than him by hunting out in the woods for food and giving it to those who need it. An old man in the Historic District is teaching him how to read and write in exchange for food, so he has more ways to communicate with people. He leads a pretty peaceful life, and keeps to himself mostly. He's well liked by the families that live in the District, and most taverns that he has been to like him, because he keeps quiet and never causes trouble. He's had some advances made to him by women and men, but he's too shy to return the advances of anyone.

He picks up work where he can, he's tall and strong, so he will do manual labor to get paid. He also hunts for meat and sells it to butchers and food stalls, but refuses to take commissions to hunt for just fur or certain body parts. He won't steal, and he won't hurt another person for money. He aspires to be a forest ranger or a tracker for the Marn City Guard, but he doesn't know how to go about becoming one, especially with his hearing problem. For now, he is content.

There is pleasure in the pathless woods, There is a rapture on the lonely shore, There is society, where none intrudes, By the deep sea, and music in its roar: I love not man the less, but Nature more...

Yeah, I hear you. I really doubt Anther is going to make it out of that jail cell, and who knows about all the other characters. /sadface
