Kat I know what you Alaskan women do for fun..
So, I think I found an article about Kat! She's the only Alaskan I could think of that deserves a medal in bad assery, like the woman below does:

It's not badassery to go up against a black bear. They're not that big, especially if it wasn't full grown.

I've chased off black bears too. They used to frequent the farm I worked on and I had to keep them out of the apple orchard or they would break branches and make a huge mess, wasting lots of apples in the process. Most black bears are scared of people and if yelling at them doesn't work the next best option is a car horn and flashing the lights at them. They think you are going to be attacked by the truck and they run away as fast as they can.
My friend Tim also gets them in his backyard. We let them hangout there as long as they don't get into the trash or harass his dog or cats.

As an Australian, I get a lot of undeserved credit for being badarse based entirely on where I live. But I've always thought that people for whom BEARS rooting around in their rubbish bins was a common occurrence deserve that credit so much more.
THEY'RE FUCKING BEARS.
THEY'RE FUCKING BEARS.

Yea, I'm bigger than some black bears I've seen, but they're still fucking bears.

My thoughts exactly. Regardless of size, you don't walk up and punch a bear in the nose. I understand scaring it off, but to punch it?KoriStronghammer wrote:Yea, I'm bigger than some black bears I've seen, but they're still fucking bears.

For some of the black bears I've seen I'd feel more sorry for the bear. Not all of them are hale and hearty, and the article didn't clarify how big or buff the bear was. Which is why I'm more inclined to believe it was on the smaller and/or hurping type.
Hell, when we went fishing there was a black bear hanging out real close to the people fishing. If someone had gone up and punched it in the face I would have called it animal abuse, even if it was loafing after a pet.

Alaska... and here I'd been laboring under the misconception that Kat was also in Australia.

I have to agree with Kat. I wouldn't go punch a bear in the face well because it's a bear, but also a lot of bears aren't the huge ones you see in movies. A lot of bears that live in town/city areas that were rural areas in the not-so decent past are much smaller, thinner and in a lot of cases they are like large homeless dogs just trying to find some garbage to eat. It's sad. I feel bad for most of them because they are just trying to find their next meal and well yeah sometimes that happens to be a tinyass dog but are you really going to blame the hungry bear for trying to eat it? I let them be as long as they aren't causing a problem. If they do cause a problem I am all for scaring them off rather than hurting them. The one thing I'm surprised about with the article is that it doesn't seem as if they killed the bear after it attacked the dog. Just about every case I hear of when a bear or other wild animal attacks a pet, it is then killed.
