The warehouse
The warehouse
Wolfhound glanced at Lanya as they entered the warehouse, "Right now I do not feel as if I could, hunting assassins is the only thing that makes me feel that I can do good in this world, and untill I can lead a normal life, I need no other name"
He looked around, finding the lamps set up previously, in case the area was needed. Wolfhound went around, turning every lamp on, looking at Lanya, "If he has abilty with shadow, hopefully this will cull his ability in here".
He cleared a small area in the light, "You can sleep here, the wolves will guard you"
With that Wolfhound walked away with his back facing Lanya; the tears that had begun to build up and make his eyes wet as he recounted his past were fnally let free, silent racking sobs hit him and his tears ran freely, dripping onto the ground loudly in the otherwise deathly quite warehouse.
He found a small alcove in which he curled up in, telling himslef to get a hold, but at the same time wishing he could change what he was created to be. It was always with him, tearing him apart from the inside. It was all he could do sometimes to keep it hidden.

Lanya watched him practically fling himself from her presence, and although she was merely human, she was female. His sorrow washed through her senses, and she knew he was off nursing an old soul wound that most likely would never heal.
She looked about her new home while she gave him some time. Every instinct in her begged her to go see if she could help somehow, if she could console him...but she knew that men did not appreciate such things as much as another woman might. She might walk into something she wasn't welcome to.
She sighed as she unpacked her one thin blanket. It didn't need to be thick and bulky, since she had her cloak as well, but it was a depressing sigh none-the-less. It was old and dirty, tattered. She sighed as she realized a shopping trip was in the works.
She sat in the center of the light and looked toward where Wolfhound had gone, then shook her head and looked at the wolves nearby. She smiled and motioned for them to come closer.
"C'mon, it's alright. I certainly won't hurt you."
As she pet the nearest wolf until the animal's eyes glazed happily, she continually glanced toward where Wolfhound had vanished, worrying. She'd give him a few more minutes, then give in to her meddling urges and go check on him.

Wolfhound looked out of the window covering the alcove, silent tears streaming down his face. Talking about his past had brought up all his pent up feelings and emotions, and now he couldn’t hold them them anymore.
Thinking about his mother. He didn’t love her, not even the idea of her or her dead memory. He never had a chance to know her, to love her. To him it was as if her death was his fault.
‘A normal life, that was what she said. Could I ever do that…?’ Looking up at the stars, he felt as if his whole life was unravelling before his very eyes.
It had been so simple before. Kill assassins because they were evil, but now… he had never thought of a normal life before. She had though, and now it had infected his thoughts, constantly swirling round his brain with his self piteous thoughts about his past.
He wanted it, so much. A chance to forget what he was created to be, to live a normal life. To someone who had spent his whole life surrounded by adventure, lies and deceit, it was enticing, so enticing.
He couldn’t though, not yet at least, first he needed to kill this assassin, to save the woman who had, how ever strange, given him hope through a coincidental comment. He almost laughed.

If a clock were around, she'd be staring at it by now. He'd been gone for a while, and she couldn't stand it any longer. She stood, giving the wolves another companionable pat before walking after Wolfhound. Her mind still stumbled over the name, but he didn't want to claim a new one - not yet, anyway.
"Wolfhound?"
She stepped into the shadows away from the relative safety of the lamp lights, listening closely for the rustle of his movement, the sounds of tears.
"Wolfhound?"
She finally stopped as her eyes adjusted to the darkness. She could only make out murky shapes and vague outlines. The lamps weren't quite strong enough to reach this far.
"Wolfhound, are you alright?"
What could she do for him, really? His past was a burden he'd probably never outrun, and she had no way to relate to him. Her family had loved her, had supported her and stood by her. They'd wanted good things for her. He hadn't even had a family. He was a killer, born and trained. And although she carried a killer guitar, she hadn't actually killed that little girl herself. She was just responsible for the child's death.
She crossed her arms lightly and whistled quietly into the darkness. Flame, as ever on her shoulder, started a trill of whistles and clicks, accompanying her own melody perfectly. And then Lanya began to sing.
The song was a song of woe, of betrayal and lost dreams. Ironically, it was a lullaby her mother used to sing to her, and although the subject matter wasn't the most cheerful, it had a soothing melody.

Wolfhound was lost in his own thoughts, not hearing her at first, but the song began to drift into his head, to soothe him. It washed away his tears and made him feel...relaxed, something he had never really felt before;not something that usually came in his line of work.
He looked up at her, "Thankyou, I...I don't know what to say. I... what you said earlier, about having a real name, leading a real life; it gave me hope. Something came over me. I feel as if I can protect you, the person who gave me that hope, maybe I can try having a normal life."
He looked at the stars, that moment of emotion, reflection and hope was rare. He found it quite hard to have said that, most likely it sounded odd. He had hardly known her an hour, yet he came out with that. The way he was though, made it easy for him to feel emotions strongly. 'I can make it a reality.

She smiled gently and shrugged, as if to downplay her effect on his emotions. She was a protective spirit by nature, and strove to take care of those around her, no matter what the circumstance. This, combined with her flare for story, gave her a knack for identifying soul wounds and trying to cleanse them.
"You're welcome."
She looked out at the night sky, enjoying the light breeze. She loved the outdoors, and was relishing these few moments before she would have to go back inside the warehouse. It was spacious, but it still wasn't outside.
"I appreciate you protecting me. I'm sorry if I've been short with you - a lot has happened to me lately, and my patience is running thin because of it."
She looked at him and smiled slightly again.
"It's not directed at you. It's just...frustrating. I've never been hunted before...well, not in the assassin sort of way. This isn't the first time I've been attacked, but it's all still new. It's..."
She sighed and crossed her arms lightly, the closest she ever got to hugging herself for comfort.
"It's not a good feeling, to know someone wants you dead. And...to know why...I can't be sure, but I have my suspicions...and if I'm right..."
She wasn't the type to cry easily, but her eyes watered as she remembered the girl's dying struggles, the bloated skin, eyes bugging out, and the blood...
She took a shaky breath, trying to steady herself.
"It's just not a good feeling."

Wolfhound wiped away the remenants of his tears, now he had gotten a hold of him self, he swore to keep it that way, "It's going to be ok, I've never failed before, and I don't intend to start now"
He turned to face the stars one last time, admiring their beauty before getting up to face Lanya, "I don't know what you did, but I know the feeling, if you want to talk about it..."
His sentance trailed away as he realized why he was here, "You should probably get some sleep, I want to start moving tomorrow, we can't stay in the same place for too long, it's dangerous". He smiled at her, hoping it was a comforting thought, and at the same word trying to think of words that might help her.
It was useless though, he didn't have much experiance in that field, nor any field involving humans. Didn't really help living with wolves.

She tensed as he offered to discuss "it," but didn't snap at him. It wasn't his fault, and technically, it wasn't hers either. It was that damned little dryad, with her insane assassin friends and a knack for molding wood into whatever form she liked.
Lanya turned and walked into the warehouse, moving to where she'd dumped her pack, staff, and guitar. She stopped a few feet away from the guitar, glaring down at it with blatant hatred. Then she looked at Wolfhound again and sighed.
"I'll tell you about it later. It's only fair, since you told me your story. But for now..."
She looked back down at Greenfyre, the bane of her existence.
"For now, just...just stay away from that guitar."
She shuddered and shook her head, staring at the beautiful wood and perfectly tuned strings. It was even warm to the touch, damn living thing that it was. She was always terrified that it would lash out without warning. It had no emotions, no conscience, and it didn't care who it hurt, who it killed...
She blinked and looked at him again.
"Just stay the hell away from it, ok?"

Wolfhound blinked, that was odd. 'What could be so dangerous about a musical instrument'. It seemed this one was quite unique, but he decided to do what she said.
"Don't worry I will, but now we really need some sleep. The wolves will wake me up if he gets within a hundred meters of here. We'll be safe for the night."
Wolfhound didn't even take off his boots, instead simply unrolling his blanket and lying down to get some rest. It would be a rough night though, it always was after thinking about his past. His memories would become over exagurated nightmares, he shuddered at the thought.
'Tommorow is going to be a long day, I just hope this Kamar doesn't keep running off, I just want to end it, now and forever.'

The moment he mentioned sleep, she felt the weight of a full day's travel ling, walking and stressing. Her eyelids sagged and she yawned, then chuckled at herself.
"The power of suggestion."
She watched Wolfhound for a moment, then removed her cloak and spread it on the floor as a makeshift mattress of sorts. As she removed her boots, she moved more and more sluggishly. It occurred to her that she was acting like a drugged insane asylum patient, but she didn't much care. She felt safe and protected for once, and although she wasn't on the bed she'd hoped for, the sense of security more than made up for this.
She laid down, using her cloak as a "cushion" on the hard floor, and covered herself with the thin blanket of her travels. Despite its roughness, holes, and general nattiness, she was fast asleep within minutes.

Looking at Lanya, he saw she was fast asleep, ‘good, she’ll need the rest’. Wolfhound turned to face the window by the alcove, he always found it easier to sleep in the open air, but looking through a window would have to do for now.
The stars glistened in the pale moon light, something he admired every night. He took one last look at them before closing his eyes and drifting of in to a light sleep. Although his body was still, his mind was wracked with nightmares. His mother a monster, chasing him, and the mages chasing her.

A few hours passed, and her mind began playing tricks on her. She was standing at the edge of a cliff, and underneath her hundreds, maybe thousands of wolves gnashed their teeth and snapped at her, leaping to try and drag her down. She tried to step back from the edge, but found her back against a wall. Her mind stumbled through panic as she tried to think of a way, any way, to escape this, but all her clever ideas failed her and she was trapped on this ledge with nowhere to go.
She accepted the inevitable and stepped off the cliff, spreading her arms out like wings as she sailed down. But as she fell, from behind her, from her back, a monster roared and shot out thousands of thin strings, deadly tentacles which slaughtered the wolf demons as she fell. She sobbed, then, as she fell, feeling pity for them even as she feared them. Her tears fell on their mutilated bodies, on pieces of what might've once been a wolf, and she felt nothing but pain now as she finally hit the ground, covered in their black, slick blood --
Lanya jolted with a gasp, then sighed and rubber her forehead with her hand. She'd had such dreams often lately, though rarely so clearly themed. There was a lot of death in her dreams now. It worried her, that her subconscious was so preoccupied with death, but there was nothing she could do.
Save forget about it.
She stared at the ceiling, knowing that sleep wouldn't come again tonight.

Slowly opening his eyes, wolkhound looked around the room. His sleep had been tormented with nightmares, but it was sleep none the less. He turned to face Lanya, in her makeshift bed; She was awake.
"It'll be light soon, I think we should start moving." Wolfhound turned to face his wolves, he reached into his pockets and took out some old, wrapped up meat, he put it down beside them and let them eat.
Getting up, he checked all his weapons were in place. The night had given back all his strength, and so could easily stay in his wolf state long enough for any fight today.
"Do you know anywhere we could go that's more secure? We need it if I'm gunna set up traps for the assassin."

Lanya finally sat up as she heard Woldhound stir, no longer feeling bad about disturbing his sleep. She'd been awake for a few hours, and was groggy and unrested. Not to mention somewhat grumpy. But after that dream, she just couldn't sleep any longer.
"No, I've never even been in this city."
She sighed as she rolled up her blanket and shook out her cloak for the new day. She'd give anything for a warm bath, some bubbles, and the wonderful sensation of clean. She was nowhere near that right now. Perhaps...
"I suggest we visit an inn, or a tavern, here in town. We can wash up, eat something freshly cooked, sleep on an actual bed..."
Her eyes glazed at the wonderful thought. Then she blinked and refocused on him.
"Um...please?"

Wolfhound frowned, glancing at Lanya, he turned to face the wolves, asking them to scout the area. They wagged their tails in agreement before bounding off outside the warehouse.
He turned back to face Lanya, "I don't see that it would be a problem, but we would have to move to a different inn every night, it's just too dangerous staying in one place for too long."
He turned to face his makeshift bed. Rolling up the blankets he perked his ears up to listen to any outside movenments, then deciding that there was nothing in need of noticing he used his nose to smell Lanya from the distance. There was a sense of fear surrounding her, but htat was to be expected after all. 'No' he decided, nothing odd about her yet.
