Drayel Morig

Post by Drayel » Tue Dec 27, 2011 6:58 am

Name: Drayel Morig

Age: 27

Race: Human

Height: 6"2

Physical Description: A heavy built man with a tanned body littered by scars. His hair is shaggy and black and his chin is covered in stubble giving him a rough appearance. His armor worn down from patrols rough weather and is scratched and dented from battles. His stiff posture and dark glowering face often intimidate passersby into giving him a wide berth. A single scar traces his right cheek and a tattoo of a sword on his left shoulder.

Belongings: Weapons (Crossbow, Sword and dagger), armor, and a necklace handcrafted by his mother the day he left. Satchel for his food and medicine, and bolts for the crossbow.

Strengths/powers:

Guardsman
> He wields a cross bow upon his back, but is more comfortable with his sword which he carries in its scabbard. A trained Guard, he is prepared to defend himself against as single man or a group of them.

Intimidation
He can make a full grown man cringe without trying very hard and his deep scowl often makes opponents think twice about fighting him. Animals however seem unaffected.

Master Tracker
He can track down human, beast, and monster through city or forest.

Animal Tamer
Can usually settle frightened or angry animals but can't do anything against demons, summons, or intelligent creatures.

Strength in Honor
Even though the Guard slowly get overrun by corruption he stands by his own morals and fights whoever he must to defend what he believes as right. He is willing to risk his life and sword in order to protect those who need help.

High Alcohol Tolerance
Sometimes useful, sometimes not. Drayel can drink like a fish but still remain on his feet. He likes drinking contest because he usually wins odd trinkets but he has yet to win against a dwarf. Sadly however when Drayel is drunk he has a tendency to go into a rage which usually lands him a night in jail.

Weaknesses:
Fear of the Gnomes
No matter the place, time or reason this scowling wall of a man cringes at the sight of the little people. He avoids them at all cost but when he can't he becomes extremely shaky. His superiors used to use this as a punishment by making him guard over them with strict orders not to move from his post. The reason for his fear is unknown but it has begun to hamper his ability in battle.

Social Awkwardness
Except for orders, battle strategic, and anything short of it this poor man can't hold a comfortable conversation to save his life. Due to his intimidating size he was constantly avoided by everyone except if they needed information or business of some kind. Naturally this made it so he never learned how to talk to another person normally. It's because of this why he normally doesn't say much as to avoid awkwardness.

Little Patience
He hates to wait for anything. Food, battle, shift ends, anything. On normal days he usually lasts only a couple moments before he begins to get irritable. When he becomes irritable he usually scowls deeper. When he scowls deeper his intimidation increases and in so often causes fellow Guardsmen to flee and lowers morale.

Battle wounds
An old battle scar that aches in the cold and often pains him during battle. The wound was caused by a short sword being shoved through his shoulder back in the earlier years of training. It doesn't hurt enough to make him incapable of fighting but it burns enough to become a distraction during long fights. Often you'll see him rubbing his shoulder after a long battle or when the air takes a dip to the cold side, this is due to the aching of his battle wound.

Trust less
After the death of his parents Drayel became weary of all who speak to him. To him anybody could be a traitor and so he keeps his distance. Not even his own comrades are trustworthy to him. His seemingly cold personality to others often loses him allies which obvious doesn't help him any.

History:

At the early age of 4 Drayel was found wandering around the streets of downtown Marn. Taken in by a poor older couple and raised as their own Drayel was taught the rights and wrongs of the world through their eyes. Every day he helped them and in turn they taught him morals through stories and lessons so that one day they believed he'd turn out good. They taught him how to fight for the good and how to turn the other cheek when the bullies laughed and hit (though he wasn't the greatest at that, usually the bullies ended up with bloody noses) They raised him until he was 16 where he enlisted to the guards where he thought he could do good.

Year after year he was trained from a childish boy to a hardened soldier. His face grew cold, his eyes turned blank, and he stood at attention with the eyes of a killer hidden beneath his battle face. By the time his training was done, his parent no longer recognized him. Where a boy once stood a cold soldier stood silent. Nether the less they welcomed him home with open arms only to get a stiff nod back. He barely stayed a week before he left again, the once happy home feeling suddenly like a cage to Drayel.

Three more years passed before he re-appeared to his home only to find his parent gone. Beaten and taken by corrupt guards who blamed them for using illegal magic in order to steal the last belongings they owned. Both died in prison. Pained by the loss of his parents Drayel dropped his sword became a drunk on the streets. He sold the last of his belongings save the old necklace his mother made the day he left for training. Alone he fought his grief with whiskey until he could no longer stand then staggered away. Each night he appeared then left, each night he drank.

Only when a woman's cry reached his ears did he stop. The misery in his heart told him to leave her behind, the soldier told him to run to get an armed guard, but the voice that won was his fathers voice. The voice that reminded him again what it meant to be strong.

Life reappeared his eyes and his body shuffled into action. Drayel charged through alleys and back ways, his eyes and ears heightened to try and find the woman. Within moment he had found her and the criminal. He beat the man until he could no longer recognize the face, and walked the terrified woman home where her family waited. Seeing them crying and hugging made Drayel snort at the wasted emotions but inside he felt the warmth that so long ago dimmed away. The next day he quit going to the bar, the next day he returned to work with his normal scowl. That day was three years ago.

Now Drayel has taken up his sword to defend it's people, fighting not only greedy thieves but guards as well. Often this leads to punishment, often he is beaten for his loyalties, but his goal forever remains the same. To fight along side the ones who shield the innocent and beat down those who harm it. He looks for someone who will lead him to battle, to fight against the corrupted guards so that one day the city could again be safe. Until then he remains quiet, guarding in silence over the people of Marn.
Just once I'd like my day to end 'normal'.
