Wow, this rp has a LOT of history and background to it. Had to take a pause in reading it all to pop on here and register and compliment on that. And to quickly browse all the post dates hoping to god posts were pretty recent and not years old, because this is good stuff. Figured I'd look up a good rp forum and this community looks like you have some good, quality stuff to offer! Still reading up on everything before I start making a character, all I know so far is I want a dwarf. What can I say, I just got home from watching The Hobbit and took an instant liking to Thorin Oakenshield's character. Don't worry, my character shares his first name out of a homage of sorts, but I think just to preserve originality and create something that's my own that's about all he'll share with Tolkien's character. That, and if I can find a way to integrate the kind of presence his character displayed without actually borrowing anything really from his history. I haven't actually really decided anything at all on his character yet, not until I read EVERYTHING you guys have about the setting of this world. And I may take a peek at a few character profiles of any of you playing dwarves just to see exactly what kind of manner you'd all integrated them into this rp. Not so much to borrow upon ideas that aren't my own so much as studying just how to maintain some sort of consistency with aspects of the race (what kind of society and hierarchy your dwarves have, culture aspects as to what god or gods they worship, what sort of upbringing a typical dwarf might receive, things of that nature). Obviously I intend to read everything you guys have describing the setting and history of the world, and as many character examples as I can dig up. But if anyone has some advice to offer between however much time I spend reading up on what's posted up and when I finally do have something to submit in the character profiles, I'd definitely welcome it. But mostly I'm just posting here to pay some compliments to what looks to be a very well thought out setting here, and to introduce myself haha. I'll probably be posting a butt-load of posts on here at first when I do finally get going, I want a good RP to write and focus on right now while I'm unemployed and moved to a new area. But that will probably taper off in about 3-4 weeks because I've already got two jobs lined up that I'll be working to make ends meet. I miss having a good RP to post at and intend to see that through for a long time, just figured I'd warn any I get heavily involved with that you're going to see a crapload of responses from me for a while and later on if I slow down some, I'll still be keeping up and active but it may turn into some late night posting habits once I start busting my butt working 2 jobs lol. Looking forward to writing with you guys!

Hey, Thorin. Welcome to Thar.
Only suggestions right now are that you feel free to ask us any questions you might have, and use paragraphs to make your text easier to read.
Looking forward to seeing your character when you get around to posting it.

Haha yeah, I posted quite a mouthful. Don't worry, my actual RP posts won't be quite so jumbled to one lump
Thanks though! Not seeing much dwarven characters to reference from in the profiles, but I suppose that can be a good thing in offering some variety. Going to get going on writing him up now. The only concrete ideas I have right now are to incorporate the traits I've read from the description of the races, and I suppose borrow heavily from ideas I've seen regarding dwarves in Tolkien works, Dragonlance, World of Warcraft, etc. Meaning things like how many of those sources have dwarves preferring mountain dwellings, they typically speak with a sort of scotsman-like dialect with their "Aye!" and "Lad!", things of that nature.
Other than getting the typical generalizations out of the way, suppose it's time to get creative! One more question, however. Is it permissible to insert some sort of character image at the top of the profile? Was considering creating a character in World of Warcraft and equipping him with some items and clothing that closely resemble however I choose to describe him and snapping a screenshot of that to serve as a character image. I'm obviously not going to rely on a picture to solely describe Thorin, but it's just an added flair I've always liked attaching to character profiles in the past. I'm just not really seeing it in other profiles so I'm not sure if it's just nobody bothers with it, or if it's not done because it's frowned upon

Hah, yeah. Doesn't look so bad on my screen at a glance. I'm running a 1920x1080 resolution so these big chunks of text look a lot smaller to me haha. I'll be a little more conscientious of that fact on here. And on that note, nix the profile pic question. I don't want to slap up something that ends up looking like a behemoth-sized proportion on someone else's screen.
What server, Jerial? I'm Kirin Tor. My main is a night elf rogue, but the more I played the more I favored Horde.

I have the same resolution here, and I assure you it's got nothing to do with the resolution.

Sweet. I need to reactivate my account. I've been without internet for about two years at home when I was in CA and now I got my net again! I had access to some wifi, but my laptops aren't powerful enough to run the game. So I was bad and had a private WotLK server going earlier this year after I'd been jonesing hard enough missing that game. Buggy as hell though. It's getting deleted, soon as I start working again soon I'm reactivating that old account and I can't wait to do it. I'd been forced to stop playing way back when WotLK first came out, about 2 weeks after release. My NE rogue is STILL level 70 parked at the beginning of northrend. I haven't checked out Cataclysm or Pandarin yet, and I sure as heck didn't want to run that on my private server because I don't want to spoil it. Just gonna get that rogue through northrend when I reactivate soon and
then check out the expansions I missed.

I'm looking forward to playing. You guys really look like you got your stuff together!

I must say, even though I loved Cata, the storylines in Pandaria are superior to just about any I've seen out of Blizzard since the best of the BC/Wrath storylines. And *every* questline is that good.

Awesome. Yeah I need to get through Wrath first. Half my motivation in downloading that private server was to get through Wrath, but that's where a lot of my bugs begin. None of the scripting in that server runs for events and I know all the stuff I wanted to check out and never got to, like the Culling of Strat, are going to be rife with scripted events. Plus half the monsters in northrend are showing up with like 1hp. Pissed me off a bit, but that's the nature of ripping a server in a game like that. Ain't gonna work right. Which is just as well, I'd rather be playing on Blizz's servers with an active account. Just lack of feasable home internet prevented me from doing so until now. Northland Cable is the company out there and they wouldn't install at my place. And I wasn't going to pay $80 for DSL from the phone company out there unless I had been getting more hours at work than I was.
30 hours a week barely paid my bills. Gotta love CA's unemployment rate. Getting laid off for a second winter in a row definitely sealed that deal. By contrast I finally got pissed and followed some family out to Utah after thanksgiving. I've barely been here for 2 weeks and I've already gotten myself a mcjob, and now I'm waiting for Home Depot to get back to me with when they want me to go to their orientation. Once that's out of the way, I'll allow myself the luxury of paying for WoW and I'm champing at the bit to do it haha.
Oh, I think I finally have myself a finished product with Thorin to put up in the character submissions. Let me know what you guys think of it!

That app is the most solid I've seen from a non-veteran in a while. Jussayin'.

Haha thanks! Yeah, I used to RP a butt-load back in the day. I haven't in literally maybe 4 years. You don't think it'll piss em off I made the Flintlock stronghold location, do you? Haha guess I shouldn't worry about it. Not like I can't change it if I have to. I just really like the idea of Thorin coming from that community.

The general rule, afaik, is that if it's not A. conflicting with existing setting material or B. uncharacteristic in context with similar or adjacent setting material, then it should be fine.
