Kamar Deythal

Name: Kamar Deythal
Age: 54 (but looks about 25ish)
Height: 5’6” (1.6 m)
Gender: Male
Race: Half-elf
Hair: Jet black
Eyes: Blue
Profession: Battlemage
Physical Appearance:
At first glance, Kamar is a figure of mystery. Often wearing a long, hooded dark grey robe that stops about an inch above the floor, he moves with a confident grace. The hood of the robe is often pulled forward to ward curious glances. The robe itself has four slits in it, from the bottom hem to halfway up his thigh, making four even rectangles (front, back, and one to each side), thus creating a freedom of movement not usually seen in robes. The robe is belted at the waist, and helps to identify Kamar’s slender build, even with the loose robes. His body, though still slender, seems to have a little more bulk to it than when he first came to Marn, and where the robe parts at the neck, blood red armor can be seen peeking out. Kamar wears a pair of leather, slipper-like boots on his feet, allowing him to move near silently over many surfaces. A pair of deep red leather gloves cover his hand, also prototypical Battlemage issue.
When the hood is down, or if the robe is not worn, his slender features and slightly pointed ears mark him as at least partially elven. He keeps his jet black hair short, which does nothing to hide the pointed ears. Intense blue eyes look out at the world from a slender, handsome face, while a thin mustache graces his top lip, and a well-groomed, pointed goatee covers his chin.
When not wearing his robe, Kamar wears the blood red armor of a battlemage. His chosen type of upper armor is a vest, leaving his arms bare and allowing more freedom of movement. The pants are also blood red, armored at thighs and calfs, and more supple leather is used at the knee joints. A deep red hooded cape is used to replace the robes.
Equipment:
The only visible weapons worn by Kamar are a small knife tucked into the belt cinching his pants, and a hand crossbow attached by a string to that same belt. Various pouches are also kept along this belt, which is used to cinch his robe around his waist, or worn around his waist when he is not wearing his robe.
Other equipment that is hard to see are the daggers tucked into the tops of each boot, and the shadow weapons he uses as his main defense. These shadow weapons are actually kept in his shadow, which he uses like a sheath, and are nearly impossible to see when light does not hit them directly, even when wielded. The weapons are a Shadow Short Sword and a Shadow Siangham.
Powers:
Kamar is a Shadow Assassin. Trained in the art of stealth, he has combined the normally deadly assassin arts with Shadow Walk abilities gained through his study as a Shadow Mage. His monk training quickens his movement and allows for deadly hand to hand combat should his stealth fail him at an inopportune moment.
The Shadow walk ability is much like it sounds. He steps into a shadow on one side of a building, using it much like a dimensional door or some such, and appears up to 100 feet away from another shadow. He can do this 3 times a day.
A new ability has developed, manifesting from his time spent in the torture chambers of the patron vampire of Marn and Shim, Belatucradus. Since that time, Kamar has discovered that he can create a mist slightly taller than himself, and spanning a 5 foot radius. He is not necessarily in the center of that mist, and he cannot send it away from himself because it will dissipate after a few seconds. He can direct it around himself as he chooses, moving with it or moving it around himself. Many of the people he has sparred with to test this new ability (mostly guards and other battlemages skilled in weapons) claim that his entire body also shifts to mist, solidifying only when he strikes. To Kamar, his body looks completely solid, so he dismisses these claims. Kamar has only been able to use this new ability once a day since he's discovered it.

Weaknesses:
Kamar’s greatest weakness is his vanity and incredible self-confidence. He enjoys allowing the ‘mark’ to know that he/she is being stalked, being set up, and enjoys the challenges set before him when the ‘mark’ begins hiring people to keep him/her safe. Defeat and failure never cross his mind, and when one of the two does happen, he puts it completely from his mind, rarely learning from the lesson.
No one is as quick as Kamar, as smart as Kamar, or as good at the things he does as Kamar ... at least in his own eyes. Though he has been defeated before, he knows that he can survive even vast amounts of pain and torture, and thinks that nothing will ever kill him.
History:
NOTE: (Kamar is from the large, broken off island that would have been a part of Africa, off the southern coast of what we would know as Europe.)
Born of an elven mother and a human father, Kamar received the slender build of his mother’s heritage, and the temperament of his father. Kamar’s father was little more than hired muscle for a thieves’ guild and had a tendency to allow his temper to run away with him. While still very young, Kamar and his twin sister were often subjected to the abuses of their older brother, who continually claimed that one day he would run the thieves’ guild their father was a part of. One day, when Kamar was 13, while his parents and sister were away, he was again subjected to such abuses and snapped. It was a short struggle, and suddenly Kamar’s brother was dead, and Kamar was running from the only life he had ever known.
While making his way from town to town, living on stealth and wits alone, he caught the eye of the leader of a small monastery. The monastery, by no means of a goodly type, took him in and trained him in the monk fighting arts. After a couple years, Kamar, by this time 15 years old, again let his temper get the best of him, killing one of the trainers who had mocked and beaten him. Once again, he was running.
The training served him well, and it took little effort to slip into a life of hired bodyguards and small time assassinations. He spent most of his time working as a freelance assassin for an assassin’s guild in a large city, and made a large reputation for himself as being one of the best. He learned much from the assassin’s guild, and was even taught by the leader of the guild, who was trained in the arts of the Shadow Mage. Kamar discovered a bit of a talent for the uses of magic, and learned quickly under the tutelage of the Shadow Mage. Many assassins within the guild became disgruntled with their leader teaching a freelance, and dissention was in the air. None was bold enough to do anything about it, however. That is, until the second in command, an excellent assassin in his own right, decided to take matters into his own hands. With one swift movement, something the leader of the assassins would have never expected from his own son, the second in command buried a dagger deep into the Shadow Mage’s heart … Kamar’s dagger. The dagger had been given as a present from the Shadow Mage, and everyone knew it by sight. It was all that was needed for the already riled up assassin’s guild. Kamar was running again.
Eventually, Kamar found himself getting onto a boat headed to the lands across the ocean to the north. He was hunted at every turn, and continually forced to defend himself. A price was put on his head, and every assassin’s guild throughout the land kept an eye out for him. Taking what little he had, and with a final look at the land that had brought about so much turmoil in his life, Kamar boarded the boat and sailed the ocean to the north.
