LEVIATHAN

It started three moons ago, when the dogger boat Skeleton Crew -- a reliable fishing vessel and crew if ever there was one -- never came home. No wreckage washed up on shore, and the mutters turned into the weeping and gnashing of teeth of mourning families. It happened, from time to time. The sea took her toll from the men who plied her waters. It was expected.
Scrapper and Luna's Glow were next. While it was not typical for so many ships to go missing all at once, it also wasn't unheard of. The men and women of the Eyropan docks were uneasy, but not overly worried about it. There was no great outcry, and business went as usual. Changers and gods were evoked perhaps more than they had been in recent times, but it didn't stop the next ship from meeting its end.
The Regal was a ship out of Corezo, one of the Emperor's own fleet, and it was one of the newly minted galleons the Emperor had commissioned from a particularly famous shipwright. It was the largest ship to disappear, and notable because for the first time there were survivors. Half dead, scared witless to be sure, but they were able to communicate and the story they told was not pretty.
Leviathan, the gossip raged, the dire sea beast awoken for the first time since the Changer's War. It bespoke bad omens, and religion awoke in a burst of converts and gospel. Reports came surging towards the coastal province consuls, and they soon became overwhelmed separating truth from exaggeration. The Emperor ordered a committee to handle the mess.
So it was two moons after the first disappearance, a secretive sort of fleet was put out to water from Apthoni, and off it went on its secret little mission that was not-very-secret to anyone with eyes and a brain behind them. It was not particularly a surprise to anyone when not a word was heard from the fleet again. Flotsam washed up on the shores of Corezo a few weeks later, and that was that.
The word on the street was that the Emperor was not very pleased.

Corezo's western territory Balleza. It's starting in the city Cenciu Balleza.
Summary: Leviathan is very large, and in order for a hunt to be put together, it must be very destructive. The Emperor has asked the Society of the Changed to direct a hunting effort, and the Empire is posting a large reward. Death or getting Leviathan to move elsewhere will earn the reward.
Due to the size of Leviathan I think it makes sense that it will be a concerted effort between several ships (we could even come up with a magical/steampunk equivalent of a submarine if we like), and our characters will be part of a team on one of the ships. What task they will be given is up to us to figure out.
And, we could potentially make it more complicated. Did Leviathan wake up alone? Did it stir up, possibly, other deep sea creatures? Is it intelligent? Are there crazy people out to protect it?
Other Notes: If they succeed and don't die they should be pretty wealthy.
