Availability: Currently this intertwined system of threads is open pending each individual thread. Right now we are still forming new threads.Updated 11/25/13
Posting Speed: It's preferable that people post regularly, but life being what it is it will have to be determined within individual threads. It's likely as threads cross paths we'll need to do some twisting so everything makes sense time-wise.

Summary: The city of Marn has its share of malcontents, and they are about to take to the streets in a big way.
The rebellion will be a citizen's revolt that has been simmering for some time in Marn's underground. It is spurred in large part by the Vitiable Paragon, an inciteful but largely low key newspaper, and the Paragon's hidden sponsors. Most of the characters are getting dragged into it in some way or another.
Plot
CURRENT EVENTS! Wheels turn. People work. Guards protect. Officials are bribed. Innocents disappear. Many die. Danger stirs.
The city of Marn has existed for hundreds of years. Claimed by the Puradynes, it has named itself a staunch ally of all non-magical. And yet, for each citizen happy with the status quo there are those cast down in the murky alleys, pressed up against the skirts of the well to do dirty and begging for a chance at a better life. For every person horrified at the thought of those magically inclined able to do what they will with their powers, there is one who has not done any wrong, and yet is punished for an ability not chosen. There is division between the haves and the have nots, and every year it breeds a resentment that grows.
The government is there to protect the people. Yet with every hammer of the gavel the pristine surface cracks, and for every safe child there is one who has fallen down deep. What lurks deep below has been the paramount concern of the government and the shady Lord Belatucadras, but what the people don't know can only serve as more fuel to the fire. Forged deep in the trenches of injustice rise up the cast-offs and survivors, and they are not happy.
The Vitiable Paragon used to be a dissenting newspaper meant as a beacon of truth in a sea of lies, but within the past few years it has been slowly growing and sowing discontent. What was once secretive and subtle has become a growing weed feeding from rumors and branching out. Determined for equality, for honesty and forthrightness, the Paragon is lifting its torch and beginning a call to arms that might change the landscape of Marn forever.
But not all is what it seems. While the government of Marn has dealt its fair share of oppression, there is more to the Paragon that meets the eye. When revolution is the name of the game, it's possible even the revolutionaries might step on the unwary to get their way. Establishment or freedom fighter?
Will you make a choice, or will the choice be made for you?
The rebellion is beginning.
Guidelines and Ground Rules
The staff at Thar tries to keep our sticky fingers out of the rp as much as possible. This is why we do not often have board wide events; we don't want to tell anyone that they have to rp this or that, or pull the setting rug out from under them. Unless everyone on the board wanted something really bad, we are not going to do anything that would cause people not involved with this plot on some level to be forced to react to it unless they specifically state it's okay.Any major activities or events will need to go through Frug. Thar is his baby, and we're not going to do any overthrowing of anything without his blessing (as well as what has been stated above).
Since most of us are sadistic and Marn's government has reserves of power our poor characters can only dream about, it is super highly likely this endeavor will fail.
As this is a huge undertaking with many players taking place, I'm not going to be forgiving for people who disappear without a word.
*** If you do not post for a week and are unreachable, you are giving permission to be skipped unless another arrangement is made within your individual thread. ***
***If you are gone for a month without saying anything to anyone, you are giving your permission for your character to be used in whatever way necessary to keep the overall plot going, up to and including death.***
If in the event of something happening to you,(rl emergencies or unexpected circumstances) either a mod will take over your character or you can name someone to take over for you.
If you know you're going to be gone for over a week, please just say something and we'll work something out to keep your character active while you're gone. Here is the upcoming absences thread.
OOC notes:
* We could use more characters directly involved with the government. Take heed that as a new player if you choose to go this route your application will take longer to complete as we will need to be thorough to make sure everything fits.* If you have ideas for plot twists or plot direction please pm Saruna or put your ideas in this thread. We love brainstorming!
* For people interested in joining but have a character who wouldn't want to join either side it can be arranged for either the Paragon or the government to blackmail/pressgang a character who is otherwise uninvolved into joining. The government of Marn has eyes everywhere, and the Paragon makes sure it knows what's up in the city.
If we still need to discuss how your character will be involved, do so below or we'll figure something out in chat. This thread will be kept updated with current events as they occur.
The Sides Involved
The Rebellion, headed by the Vitiable Paragon* Started out as a paper, but strangely the modus operandi begun to change a few years ago.
* They protest the high handed way in which the government (judges, battlemages) treat their citizens, and the secrecy under which atrocities discovered and yet uncovered (but rumored) are performed.
* They protest the dark and shady involvement of Kaledin Manor and its Lord, though exact relationship between the powerful man on the hill and Marn is not totally exposed.
* They are secretive. Who owns the Paragon, and who directs its moves?
* They do not offer much; it is a collective determined to allow more freedom magically, personally, and privately. They do pay for some of their necessary tasks, but they are not above pressganging unwilling individuals into service.
* If they need to, they might blackmail, bribe, or contract to get what they need done.
* They are at heart anti-Puradyne, though they do not as of yet openly espouse this ideal. Instead, they have expressed their support of those magical citizens who have been oppressed.
The Government
* Focused on protecting the citizenry no matter what the cost. There are secrets beneath the city, and they will do whatever it takes to keep them hidden.
* Some of them do genuinely care about the city's fate, but no government is perfect.
* Sometimes, protecting the citizens means killing the dangerous ones. Just what 'dangerous' is fluctuates at the politicians' whims.
* Has both money and influence, and will contract or blackmail to get what they need done. The elite of the city is generally on the city's side.
* Could offer deals or positions to those with the right skill sets.
* Has some strange fealty to the Lord of Kaledin Manor. . .
