Name: Björn Konungur

Age: 22

Race: Human Shifter (Bear)

Life Span: Bjorn's people live for around 120 years, barring injury unto death.

Physical Description: Bjorn is human appearing, but can shift into a bear at will. He is tall, 6'6", and wide at the shoulders. As a bear, Bjorn stands 10 feet tall on his hind legs and weighs easily 800 pounds.
He has very little fat during the early spring and summer, but in late fall his bear instincts make him eat more food, and he gains a few pounds. He doesn't hibernate, but he is very lethargic in the winter times. Bjorn has dark brown hair that falls in waves down to his shoulders, a close cropped beard, and green eyes. He generally wears a brown shirt with that can be opened at the neck or laced, and green pants that are tied at the waist with a leather belt. He never wears shoes, and his feet are heavily callused from walking in the woods, and his hands are calloused as well. He has a deep thick twisted keloid scar from his left shoulder to his right hip. The scar does not appear on the bear or affect the bears body when Bjorn shifts.

Possessions: Bjorn does not have many possessions. He prefers to hunt for his meat in bear form, and eat it that way, so he doesn't need utensils. He has his clothes that he keeps in a watertight trunk he placed in a small cave, a lamp for light during the nights to see by in his human form, and two books that he has read so many times they are falling apart. He has carved a wooden pipe recently, and is attempting to learn to play it, trying to mimic the birds in the woods. He wears a necklace that adjusts itself to his neck in either form, that was a gift from his deceased mother. The amulet is a small bear paw, it was given to him as a cub. He also has a small flint knife he uses for small tasks, and smooth oak branch with thick wooden branch vines that grew into it as a walking stick, roughly about 6 feet long, with a hard knob at the upper end.

Powers or Strengths: Bjorn is exceptionally strong for a human, and is also exceptionally fast. He can also see in low light situations, but not complete darkness. He can withstand extreme heat as a human, and extreme and severe cold when a bear. He can smell and hear as well as a bear when in human form as well. He has remarkable healing powers, usually when wounded he only needs to rest for a few days to become healed. Bjorn was never trained in any fighting style, but has adapted techniques he has seen used by fighting animals into battle techniques for himself. He is a good strategist, and will often make himself appear wounded or slow and dumb to lure an opponent into a false sense of being a better warrior.

Secret Powers - Other than his shifting abilities, Bjorn's only magical powers are the ability to communicate with other animals. Bjorn can talk to them like most humans talk, and can understand what the animal is saying back to him. He doesn't do this very often if he thinks someone could be watching him, as he thinks others knowing this skill is dangerous.

Weaknesses and Flaws- Bjorn has a few weaknesses. He has very weak eyesight, and can barely make anything out over 75 feet away. During the winter time he gets very lethargic, and if he shifts into his bear form the bear is very cranky and mean. He has a very irrational fear of drowning and whirlpools in the water, which is why he will only get in the water if the pool is very shallow and it's a still water pool. He's also also afraid of hunters harming animals he considers family, and of them hurting other bears. He will let himself be put in dangerous and deadly situations if he believes it will save another animal he loves. The scar on Bjorns back is a bane to him. Due to how deep the scar is, it has caused a bit of nerve damage, where Bjorn can quite easily be put down for a good while if he is hit in the scar, unable to move without great pain. During very cold nights, Bjorn feels like he's being skinned alive at the scar, which is why during the winter he mostly stays as a bear to relive the pain. The pain from the scar has left psychological damage as well, and whether human or bear, Bjorn refuses to do anything that he feels will make the scar hurt worse than it always does, going from a dull, throbbing ache he feels constantly to a sharp, searing pain, akin to being carved up the spine. When the scar becomes unbearable, Bjorn can only east the pain by going to a hot spring in the woods and staying in it for hours to ease the pain. Bjorn's memory is another weakness. His memory to put it simply, is shot. He can remember things he does on a day to day basis, but anything that he hasn't done for a week he forgets. He remembers almost none of his childhood, except for a few snatches here and there.

Bjorn's flaws are basic flaws, but could be deadly someday. He is very proud, and doesn't believe in receiving help for any reasons. He will refuse help even if he knows he needs it, as he believes he can do anything on his own. He has a massive temper, and gets frustrated and loses it easy. When his temper flashes over, he always feels regretful for what he says or has done while angry, but his pride doesn't allow him to apologize for it. Bjorn has a severe personality flaw in bear form, his loves of sweets. Any enterprising young trapper wanting bear would likely find Bjorn in his traps if baited with something sweet. Bjorn has almost been killed numerous times for raiding houses for sweets to satisfy his bear sweet tooth, and has also stolen from the market in Shim for sweet foods while in human form. He has became a semi-notorious criminal in Shim for his theft of treats.

History:

Bjorn has vague memories of himself as a child, but nothing strong enough for him to rely on as his past. He remembers his mothers voice, and her smell, and the cave they lived in. He has no memories of his father, or of any family besides his mother and a great mother bear that was his mothers friend. Bjorn has blocked the memories of his mother drowning from his mind, though this may explain his deep fear of water. He was raised by the mother bear with her cubs, and that was the only life he had known for a very long time. One day Bjorn wandered from the woods and was captured by a lone hunter who lived by himself in the wilds. He kept Bjorn in his home for three years, teaching him the ways of humanity. When Bjorn was 17 years old, the hunter left for the city and Bjorn never saw him again. He waited a week for the return of the hunter, and when he did not return, Bjorn closed up his house and returned to the woods. Upon his return, Bjorn searched for his bear family, but could not find them. To this day, the wounds on his spirit still sting over the loss of the only families he has ever known.

The wound on his back he knows nothing of. The way Bjorn heals, one can only imagine the magnitude of damage that had to have been put onto him. He has had the scar and pain as long as he can remember, and does not know where it came from. It's one of the great mysteries of his past, and frankly, Bjorn doesn't want to know who or what caused it.

It has been two years, and Bjorn still wanders what happened to the hunter, a man he had almost come to see as his father. Bjorn found a uninhabited cave in the forest, and there he lives. He communes with nature, and tries to leave as little a footprint as possible. Being taught no religion, Bjorn believes in Nature as a living force, and does his best not to harm the nature spirits he believes inhabits every animal and plant. When he makes a meal with meat, he thanks his brother animals spirit for his nourishment, and when he eats plant matter he thanks the plant spirit for the same. One day he belives he will die and enrich the soil and help in the same ways. He tries to not have much to do with humanity, though he watches them from the woods every once in a while.

When Bjorn finds hunters and travelers in the parts of the wood he calls home, Bjorn will shadow them to make sure they do not do an undue amount of harm. He recognizes the need to hunt for meat, as he is a predator himself, so he has no problem with someone hunting for food. If he believes they are taking more than they need or are hunting for sport, he grows very angry and may try to run them out of the woods, but he tries not to hurt anyone severely. When travelers walk through were he calls home, he watches them to make sure they leave as little an imprint as possible on the forest. A cautious traveler who respects the forest Bjorn has no issues with, but a traveler that does much harm to the woods and local plants and animals, Bjorn takes many issues with.

He has no mate, and no potential future for one. To fall in love with a human girl would be to give up his life and bear for her, and to mate a female bear would most likely be the end of his humanity for a long time. He also shudders to think what may happen for offspring, for he knows a child like him born to a human woman would not find much love in civilization. Any human child born to a bear may not be able to survive, and he may not be able to raise a child in the first place.

He wonders what it would be like the forsake his bear form and be like the rest of humanity, but Bjorn is to wild and free at heart to ever be caged in by his humanity. On the reverse side of the coin, he wanders as well to completely forsake any human aspects and become a savage bear for all eternity, but the idea of never feeling things through his human side appalls him. Therefore, he wanders the forest alone, sometimes as a human, sometimes a bear, talking to the animals who will talk back. His future is uncertain, but he knows he will always remain free.
