Ceallach
Posted: Sun Jun 06, 2010 12:54 am
Name: Ceallach
Age: 37
Race: Human (With the possibility of troll or perhaps orcish a few generations back, although it is uncertain)
Height: 6'10"
Weight: 320 lbs
Physical Description: Tall, dark haired, and heavily muscled, Ceallach's body is crisscrossed with a motley assortment of scars from various weapon types and tattoos that hint at an extremely violent history. His lips are a thin slit above a strong chin and his cold eyes are piercing even from behind the shadow of his prominent brow. One eye is brown and the other is blue, lending a disturbing malevolence to his presence. He keeps his hair cut short to almost a stubble and his facial hair is rarely more than a five o clock shadow. His left eyebrow is pierced with a silver hoop and he never removes his necklace.
Possessions: He keeps an assortment of knives on hand at all times and a falcatta by his side. His shield is an aging piece of ironwork with a single bloodstained spike in the center that tells of many battles won and fatal blows avoided. His favorite weapon, however, is the caestus, a leather glove punctuated with wicked spikes. He carries a modest sum of money, most of which he expended on his journey. His most prized possession is a medallion that he keeps around his neck at all times and is known to rub whenever deep in thought or worried. His armor is battered and worn but still functional.
Powers or Strengths: Ceallach is an extremely skilled fighter and brawler. He is cold and calculating, and deceptively intelligent with a sound grasp of strategy and anatomy. He has a sort of raw charisma honed by his years of prizefighting. He is also extremely tough and hardy and no stranger to survival in the elements.
Weaknesses: Ceallach is extremely untrusting and somewhat cold and aloof. He suffers from classic signs of post traumatic stress disorder. He has trouble sleeping and is paranoid. He fears that his past is going to someday catch up with him and refuses to partake in food that he has not seen prepared.
History: Ceallach's history is not something he is likely to discuss with anyone. He is extremely secretive about it but a few facts are known. Most people know him simply by his reputation as an extremely brutal and efficient mercenary and assassin. His birthplace is unknown to all but his closest confidants. He refuses to be known by his family name as that could make him easier to find so it is doubtful that Ceallach is even his true given name.
He was born in a village south of Athena in Eyropa on the peloponnese. From what can be gathered, his father and mother were exiled to the Laconian peninsula for various crimes. His first years were a constant struggle to survive. Due to the exiles' proximity to the rock
They were captured by raiders and the youthful Ceallach escaped. He was found by a travelling minstrel and, for some time, assisted the bard in telling his tales of epic heroism and damsels in distress. This is the only point in which it seems that Ceallach was ever truly happy in his life. The minstrel was killed in a tavern brawl over a crooked card game and the youth enlisted in the local legion.
As a young man, he was a non commissioned officer in a foreign army and was in command of roughly eighty men when his prowess attracted attention and commendation. It is believed that the necklace he wears at all times is a medal earned on some far away campaign. He then became the swordsmanship instructor for a powerful family for some time. When his patrons were assassinated and their properties sacked, he was grievously wounded and sold into slavery, whereupon he became a form of prizefighter.
He married a slave girl and she bore him a son. He promised to return to them one day and free them if ever he became a free man again.
After earning enough money for his own freedom, he briefly led a band of raiders and mercenaries before they were dispatched in an ambush by native forces. Ceallach alone survived and escaped with all of their accumulated wealth. He attempted to purchase his wife's freedom from the estate that once owned him but discovered that she and his son had been sold. He lost his temper, killed his old master, and was forced to flee.
He traveled as far as he could with what little wealth he had to begin anew in a strange land with little to no hope of seeing his family again. Their old master was dead and his records were lost when Ceallach burned the manor to cover his tracks.
Ceallach knows that someone or something from his past is after him, although he won't say who. This may be paranoia bred by the constant ill fortune that has befallen him or by a deeper conspiracy but until he knows for sure, he will always sit with his back to the wall, stay away from windows, and sleep with a knife under his pillow.
After a lifetime of killing and butchery, Ceallach has become bitter and disenfranchised with the world he lives in. He hates himself and everything around him.
He sees himself as an evil man beyond redemption and would gladly sacrifice himself to free his family.
He considers himself responsible for their suffering and believes that he has shamed them with his actions as a mercenary and raider. Although he would love nothing more than to save them, he would not have them see him as he is now, preferring the memory of him as a glorious gladiator than as a hired killer.
Currently, he is on a journey to the city of Marn to try and eek out a living as best he can , far from his homeland and hopefully, from his troubled past.
