by Tauremi
Player Name: Tauremi
Name: Akros (Nym) Tauremi
Age: 12
Race: Human/Fawn (Though he doesn’t know about the Fawn half as his mother lied to him and told him his father was a Faerie.)
Height: 4'8"
Weight: 99lbs
Physical Description: Akros has fair skin that is tinted a slightly lilac color and hair that is such a light blonde it appears almost white. Akros’ demeanor is very Faerie like; his feminine boyish face is complemented by his large brown eyes and waist length hair. Since he has not reached puberty, his voice is still that of a child’s with an almost music like quality to it.

His clothing is simple; he wears light cloth shoes to transverse the forest and graveled walk-ways of Thar Shaddin quickly and quietly. His neutral colored long shorts and tunic top are rather indistinctive. The only thing of remote difference that he wears is a copper oval locket that is broken in half (his sister carries the other side) though it is empty and possesses no real value (or in his mind, a use; he isn’t aware of what we call photographs or that anything could actually be put in it for keeping), it was a gift from his mother before him and his sister left her care and the city of Guang Wan and a reminder of a time of happiness before their separation.

As Nym (explained in history) she wears a standard Red Chalice Inn servant girl outfit of a brown linen skirt and vest with a white blouse.

Akros also has a pet, Cheeba, an eleoskey (i.e. a rat sized creature with a noise as flexible as an elephant, a tongue like an anteater, flexibility of a ferret, claws like a cat, a monkey flexible tail with a sharp bone tip that it uses to stun its prey, and all the bravery of a terrified Chihuahua.) Cheeba prefers to stay hidden in Akros’ shirt or shoulder bag. Generally he only eats bugs but has a dear love for anything that contains jelly. He is as friendly as a cat (once you win his trust) and has the memory of an elephant (if he likes you, he won’t forget you.)

Possessions:
• A brown shoulder bag that’s tattered and worn, there’s a special pocket on the inside that Cheeba hides in.
• A broken empty locket that he wears hidden under his shirt.
• Small vials containing various essences of plants/herbs and a small mixing bowl and brush.
• An oddly forged curved dagger with elvish carvings on the hilt.

Strengths and Talents:
• Akros has the ability to hide very well, he can stay in one spot for hours by isolating each of his muscles and clenching and unclenching them in turn to avoid muscle pains, or worse, stiffness of movement that could prevent a much needed escape.
• He is skilled with herbal knowledge for constructing minor herbal remedies for things like stomach aches, mild fevers, head pains and small skin abrasions. He has not yet reached a skill to treat any serious wounds.
• Akros has an unexplainable ability to make a certain plant/flower grow anywhere he needs it. The plant might not last more than five minutes before it withers, as he accelerates its growth process to the age he needs it to be, but it usually gives him enough time to pluck it and compress it into a powder or juice. He hasn’t managed to harness this power however, and it only occurs at a very small scale (one plant at a time) and only when his emotions turn to utter desperation and want.
• Though not so much a strength as a matter of necessity, upon entering the woods near the Shim, Akros runs into a bad encounter which makes him realize that it is safer to disguise himself as a girl for the time being and adapts the new name Nym (explained in the history section).

Weaknesses:
• Akros (Nym) is an over-caring and often overly sensitive individual. He can feel what someone else feels if their emotion is strong enough and can often be overrun by a stranger’s grief or anger, or likewise happiness. In this sense he loses control of his own emotions and becomes intent on helping the person whose emotions are overtaking him.
• Though Akros wields a well forged blade, he’s never been taught how to use it in combat. He takes to hiding more than fighting as he is physically frail.
• He also cares deeply and feels protective over Cheeba, his pet eleoskey, and will let no harm come to him. If Cheeba were to get captured, he would do anything to have him safely returned.
• Akros is also terrified of the possibility of being discovered as a boy in Thar Shaddin and of having his magical (albeit minor) powers revealed. He keeps both a deep secret and refuses to improve his magic until he is reunited with his sister (the stronger of the two) or until someone takes him under their wing and shows him magic isn’t all bad.
• Though Nym plays ‘her’ part as the perfect tavern servant, she despises men’s attentions and prefers to shy away from most conversations causing her to gain little information about her sister or win her any friends.

History:

Akros and his twin sister Nebula were born to a fawn and one of the few human women that took up permanent residence in Guang Wan. Since the actual city is located within the forest near the Sparkle Lake the inhabitants would sometimes play host to all manner of creatures that past through the woods.

One such creature was their father, a fawn of rather tricky and cunning nature. He quickly won the heart of their mother, Oniyru Tauremi, in his full human form, and seduced her deep within a secluded part of the forest. Upon her awakening the next sunrise, she found the clearing to be empty and the fawn no where to be found. She felt it must have been a dream; that is, until she found out she was impregnated with twins. Oniyru was both joyous and devastated with the news, for though she had longed for children all her life, she had no husband to support her and no explanation of who he was.

She was forced to make up a lie to the people of Guang Wan and tell them that she had made love to a passing woodland faerie (which was almost true) to gain some form of acceptance and understanding for her situation. Fawns were considered a despicable creature even among faeries and especially among elves; they were deceitful and considered to be ill-omened. If the children were found out to be half fawn and that she’d lied about their heritage, all of their lives would be forfeit. So Oniyru kept the twins hidden within her tree-house hut after their birth (as though their magical aura was close to a faerie’s, any faerie would be able to tell the difference).

When the twins turned ten, suspicion had grown immensely and rumors started spreading about why they never left their hut. Oniyru tried to fend off the questions and remarks but her denials just fueled the rumors. She decided the safest course was to take the children to Dalouxiu and then through the Northern Trade Route to Thar Shaddin; where she heard their was work. She knew that life there would be hard but since her children had shown no magical abilities and apart from their lightly lilac tinted skin they looked almost like average human children.

In the dead of the night of a new moon the three set off towards Dalouxiu. The trip there was mostly uninterrupted with only having to hide from passing merchants or travelers here and there.

Again luck had somehow been on their side and they reached the northern mountain pass that bordered Thar Shaddin without incident. Only a five day’s march remained for them now before they reached the outskirts of the city. Relaxing but continuing at a steady pace, Oniyru pulled the two silent children in tow; they understood that any outbursts might bring unwanted attention from the nearby mountains.

Unfortunately, it was on this day that Akros would discover his magical ability to call upon the plants and flowers.

Nebula, clenching her mother’s hand tightly, tripped upon a stone and scraped her leg upon the hard ground. Crying softly she looked to her mother for aide, but before Oniyru could tend the minor wound; her attention was caught by a noise in the nearby wood.

EEEEEEAHHHYAYA

A goblin hunt cry.

The girl’s tiny yelp had alerted two goblin scouts that were hunting for food in the nearby woods.

Before Oniyru could even react, a goblin arrow with red feathers pierced her unarmored chest. Her black hair flew up in slow motion as she fell backwards, clutching at her bleeding bosom.

“Take your sister and run Akros!”

Akros half dragged, half carried his sister away from their fallen mother. The twins began a stumbled run down the path. The hunters were at first preoccupied with Oniyru but Akros’ cry of anguish reminded the other goblin of their escaping presence; and it was on them.

The twins stumbled backwards, their limbs entangled as they tried to scramble back up. Before either could move, the goblin’s clawed hand grasped Nebula’s leg. She shrieked and kicked it in its mouth as it reached towards her baring his teeth. It released its grasp but not without leaving a gash of claw marks that would forever scar her right leg.

Akros took the opportunity to pull out a small vial containing yellowish powder within and threw it in the goblin’s eyes. It shrieked in pain; the powder stung its eyes and temporarily nullified its sense of smell, when it finally cleared its senses, the children were gone.

They had ran into the woods for protection; when they had gotten far enough ahead that they hoped the goblin had lost them or forgotten about them, Akros finally turned his attention to treating Nebula’s wound.

After she was bandaged and they had a moment of respite; tears trickled down his face and fell to the empty brown earth. Where they landed, a single flower bloomed; a white rain lily, his mother’s favorite. Though the plant wilted minutes after it bloomed, both children realized it had been magic.

The two slept the night in the forest before continuing to Thar Shaddin. Only two days away now from the city the pair stumbled upon a bandit camp hidden within the woods. They had been drawn to the fire and the hopeful thought of food barred their better judgment.

Instead they were bound and gagged. The bandits mistook Akros for a girl along with his sister and auctioned him off as such to a despicable fellow in the Shim. After the ‘purchase’ he was knocked unconscious and carried back to live with the man as his ‘niece’.

Though the fellow was a grimy and disgusting old gentleman, he ended up being a gentleman none the less and never removed Akros (now Nym; for he had given the man a fake name meaning ‘Name’ in his native tongue) of anything valuable; meaning he had never discovered that Nym was indeed a boy.

Nym now serves as a servant girl/cleaning girl at the Red Chalice Inn and has for the past year (she is now twelve); hoping that someday she’ll hear news from a traveler about the whereabouts of her sister.

I want to mention that slavery is illegal in Shim but we have have allowed it once and I'm sure we can make another exception as long as you know that it isn't a common thing in either Shim or Marn.

I'm slightly disappointed he doesn't look much like a fawn but oh well, I like it anyways.

Approved.
