by Reia
Name: Kanareia (aka Reia)

Age: 16

Race: Fae/Elven

Physical Description: Undoubtedly small, Reia stands at an unimpressive 5'3" and weighs somewhere around 115 lbs. The very features that she possesses are proportionately as small, from her thin nose, to her narrow but full lips, and even to her to her slender cheeks which carry a natural accent of blush. She has a mess of curly, reddish-brown hair that is always tangled about her head and falls to her mid back at its longest. Pallid, grey eyes peer out from under these singed bangs, and with her soft, pale skin she is naturally beautiful. Yet, due to her social standing and common condition, this beauty usually remains quite hidden. Often seen with a dirty face and wearing clothes that seem like nothing but rags, her poor disposition discredits her physical attributes to an extreme.

Possessions: Reia possesses few things that are worth mention, if any, poor as her household is. She carries no weapons, as there is little purpose since she wouldn't know how to use them. Her clothes are few and limited, the best being a small, slightly torn blue dress that no one but she would find valuable. Her grandfather did have a sword at one point in time, passed down through generations, but this was taken at the time of his execution and she was not able to inherit it.

Powers or Strengths:

Reia's mind seems to be naturally connected with the astral plane and the resulting magic. Even as a young girl her abilities have manifested veritably, and while none are particularly strong or powerful they hold undeniable potential.

Telekinesis: The first power that Reia ever connected with was the ability to manipulate matter. Reia can move small items, such as cups and bowls, with ease. It hardly requires a second thought, and the speed by which she can move things of these size can be very high. If simply looking at the object, it may move at a slow, even-paced speed, but if she desires the object quickly and motions toward it or holds out her hand, the object may fly toward her with much greater speed. Larger objects require greater concentration, and she usually cannot lift things that weigh more than 10 lbs, and even that much is somewhat of a struggle. Pushing things, however, is a bit easier, but if it is, say, 20 lbs or more, she generally cannot alter its location.

Extrasensory Perception: While ESP doesn't come to Reia as naturally as telekinesis, it is still something that is natural enough on her own terms. Included within this power are two basic abilities.

The first ability is what most would relate to the ability to read minds. Reia cannot actively read what a person is thinking. Rather, she has a strange ability to sense a person's motive. For example, if a person is lying to her... she will know. This is probably the most complex of her abilities, and the most difficult to explain. Yet she understands this ability well enough, and utilizes it most often out of all of her magic. People that are thinking "evil" thoughts can be figured out, and those that have good intentions will be recognized as such. If you have plans to assassinate someone, she's not going to be able to tell who it is or or where exactly they live, but she will know that you plan to execute a terrible deed, and will generally get a bad feeling about it. Of course, this only deals with things that are on a person's mind. If it is not even on their mind a bit, she will not be able to read into it, but even if it is thought of somewhere in the back of your head, just a passing thought, she can catch it with a little more effort. Though usually it's a bit of a strain on her to pry too much. The easiest thing for her to do is simply read into how a person is feeling. If you're angry, but you put on a smile, she can tell with relative ease what you're really feeling.

Reia's last ability manifests as clairvoyance. This is the ability that she holds the least amount of control over, and she doesn't even understand it herself yet. She could not tell anyone their future, as her predictions usually manifest in dreams, and even then she does not always understand them. In fact, she rarely does. Usually they are unclear and clouded so that she can not decipher them, but occassionally she will have experiences in which she clearly sees the future or incurs a vision that is relatively easy to understand. One such prediction occurred during the death of her grandfather, for example. Sometimes she can get a general feeling as to whether a person will have a good day or a bad day if she comes into contact with them, such as holding their hand. This is the only way in which she can consciously use this magic.

Aside from her magical abilities, Reia is actually very perceptive in general. She catches onto things quickly.

Weaknesses:

Reia is a small girl, not at all suited for any type of encounter in which she may have to physically defend herself. She is tiny and weak, and could hardly stand up to a 12 year old boy. This weakness, however, is nothing compared to the fact that she has lost the ability to speak. For years Reia has not been able to speak due to her own father, and thus cannot communicate with others verbally. she must gesture things and try to make others understand what she means. This of course makes all of her conversations nearly completely one-sided. She does not read or write well either, so that option as a form of communication is practically closed to her as well. She also lives in a very poor household, and has to work hard to live day to day not only for her sake, but for her mentally handicapped mother who cannot work and provide for herself.

Reia also tends to be very indecisive, always second-guessing herself and rarely trusting her insticts. This can leave her a little up in the air during a crunch. She also has a tendency to be rather headstrong, and often does not weigh the consequences of the actions she takes.

History:

Reia's family is originally from the city of Marn, beginning with her Elven grandfather and grandmother who gave birth to a mentally disabled daughter that was unable to take care of herself. This female, who was never intended to reproduce as she was taken care of by her parents for many years, gave everyone a shock when she suddenly showed signs of birth sickness.

It had been a man by the name of Nafir, a Fae who worked for the government in the city of Marn as a battlemage. Cruel and sadistic to a near extreme, Nafir had taken advantage of the Elven woman who had no means by which to defend herself. In fact, her mind could not even understand the situation, only that when her period of carrying the child was up she experienced a terrible pain for some unknown reason. Reia was born from the womb of a union that should never have been, but her grandparents offered her love all the same. Nafir seemed to desire no part in her life, but in truth he kept an eye on her from the day of her birth.

The product of a Fae and Elf, it was no surprise when Reia's grandfather watched the 4-year-old toddler hover an apple in the air for a few short seconds before the fruit fell to the ground. Marveled at his granddaughter's innate ability for magic, he was rather pleased. Having been quite the wizard for some time during his life, he had shared his magical knowledge with many in the underground, often escaping the jaws of the government by narrow paths. Desiring to spend his last days of practicing magic by teaching them to his granddaughter (an act to which Reia's grandmother verily protested), it was sadly a chance that he never achieved.

Reia was only twelve years old when she had her first premonition. Dreaming of a land filled with blood and shadows, she could only see her grandfather standing at some far distance, but no matter how far she ran to reach him, he was always the same distance away. She could never get closer. Blood poured down his head and began to swallow his entire body, and just as she could no longer see him anymore she cried out, awaking in a terrible sweat to find a man standing at the side of her bed.

She would have cried out again, but a gloved hand covered her mouth with great haste. His face came close to hers and he smiled a smile that she would never forget.

"Now now, it would be best if you didn't speak."

These were the only words she ever heard her father say, and at that moment she felt a terrible pain searing her throat like fire, and even though he was not touching her neck it felt as if claws were digging into the skin. Her eyes were wide with horror as she felt a large lump rise through her throat and out of her mouth, and the pain was so terrible that she tried to cry out with all her strength, but no sound came forth. In a matter of seconds, she felt no more pain, but her head was light and dizzy, her throat tingling with a strange, empty sensation. She looked up to this man, her father, and saw the shining light that he held within his hand.

"I'll hold onto this for you, my dear daughter." And then he vanished from sight.

The door burst open immediately afterwards, her grandfather standing at the entrance only a moment before he ran to her. She had not noticed, but there were tears running down her face, but she could not cry, not like she wanted to. He asked her what happened, but she only sat on her bed in a daze, unable to speak. It was not long before everything went black.

She awoke to the sound of her grandfather's voice, quitly and elegantly soothing her grandmother's sobs. Slowly she crept from her bed, tiptoeing for no apparent reason to the wooden door and peering through the crack. She saw a man in an unforgettable uniform at the entrance, a battlemage, and her grandfather holding her grandmother in his arms. The battlemage reached out and grabbed her grandfather harshly and jerked him away, pulling him through the door. Reia would have gasped but her voice was gone, but at the moment she thought nothing of it. She cast the door open and ran out, only to see that her grandfather was gone in the blink of an eye. She looked at her grandmother with pleading eyes, unable to ask what was going on. Yet she received an answer all the same. Her grandfather was to be executed for his excessive use of magic.

The following days were but a blur to Reia, though after the last incident her grandmother decided that it would be best to leave Marn. They did not travel far, only to the small village of Shim, where she and her grandmother both found work at an inn.

The following years of her life consisted of practice. Reia practiced her magic whenever she could, which was sparingly due to her grandmother's insistence that she never dabble in such things. Yet it was a part of her, and she wanted to learn more. Everything she learned from that point were things she "felt" out on her own, though it was not easy. She obtained a hatred for the government during these years in Shim, now only desiring a few things in life. To either leave the country or bring down its government, and to find a way to return her voice.
