Character Name: Arturo Holt

Player Name: Devon

Name: Arturo Holt (Arturo: Strength of a bear; Holt: Son of the unspoiled forest)
Age: 27

Race: Shifter: Werebear

Height: 6'3 in human form, 9' for his bear form, rearing up

Weight: 250lbs in his human form, around 500lbs in his bear form

Physical Description:
Arturo is large man, by anyone's standards to be honest. He towers over all but the tallest men and he sees this as the advantage it is. He is also very built with large and developed muscles covering his body. He has long and thick black hair that comes down the middle of his back. He usually keeps it swept behind him on his back. His face is worn and battle torn with two long scars riding along his cheek, they reach from his ear to his cheekbone underneath his extremely light green eyes. His eyes are his tribe's trademark.

He has a fairly large nose, broken more than once before. To compliment his large black mane, he also has a mustache and a long goatee that he has tied into two large growths that reach below his neck, just above his armor.

Possessions He prefers his leather armor over the iron, steel or chainmail. He wears leather wraps around his forearms that run down to his wrist, with a hardened leather chest piece and light but thick tanned hide pants. This allows him moderate protection yet full mobility. Black leather boots protect his feet during his days and nights.

The leather armor unwraps itself when he shifts, but the chest piece and boots must be removed prior to shifting, unless he wants them destroyed.
He carries a large steel claymore, remnants of his war days, its nicked here and there, the large leather scabbard is worn and scathed but it holds its purpose. He carries no food stores, or sleep roll, he prefers to hunt in his spirit form, and sleep on the ground like his ancestors and clan. He does carry a small water flask though, for when shifting is inconvenient and no lakes or rivers are nearby.

Powers or Strengths: The shear strength of a bear in his animal form and the strength that a large war hardened man carries in his own form. He carries the strategic knowledge of a warrior and the carnal knowledge of a hunter.

His clan was taught to combine both of their forms into a warform, a huge combination standing roughly 8-9 feet tall with the claws and maw of the bear while keeping most of his large human build, even if it is covered in coarse thick fur. He heals rapidly by manipulating his ability to shapeshift and can take a serious beating before he even realizes that he’s about to be down for the count. Be it strength or weakness, Arturo can go into a bestial wrath, a frenzy that is hard to stop, his only goal is to take down his objective, despite who may get in his way to try and stop him. His bear spirit allows him to have an empathetic nature to other bears, allowing him a form of communication through feelings.

This is only limited to simple concepts, such as “friend”, “foe”, “flee” or “attack”. Though these are commands, it depends on how the bear feels towards Arturo, as either a superior or subordinate. Through the spirit, he gains much of the bear’s senses in his human form, such as a heightened sense of smell, hearing but his sight and sense of touch is the same as a human.

Weaknesses: First off he hates being told what to do or taking orders from anyone, unless it’s on the battlefield that is. In most situations he will take the advice, or comply with the orders, but only half heartedly. He sees a superior officer as exactly that, and that status deserves respect. If the person loses that respect though, he won’t have a second thought about knocking the man down and start giving his own orders in the best interests of his men. Being a subordinate is a situation that Arturo has grown out of in the last few years, and sees it as somewhat disrespectful for someone to give him commands.

Even though he can take hit upon hit, if he is even slightly nicked with a blade of silver it burns intensely. The anger that he feels when this happens is strong enough to ignite the frenzy. Unfortunately, this causes him to almost always have more silvery cuts inflicted.

The silver weakness isn’t the only shifter weakness he experiences, the one that hinders him the most is his sleeping habits. Believed to be a trait given to them by the bear’s spirit, he sleeps a great deal more than most. When the normal sleeping hours are roughly 6-8 hours, Arturo and his kin sleep 8-12 hours a day. When he wakes up it’s usually 30 minutes to an hour before he’s even really awake. This hinders him on and off the battle field.

Around the full moon, as with most shifters, the spirit that lives within tries to change automatically. Arturo can communicate with this spirit as if it’s another person, through his own psyche, though, when it’s nearing the full moon he loses most of his human free will and is more inclined to do what the bear wants than what is, at the time, logical.

History:
“He is mad who trusts the tameness of a were. : Werebears are mighty shape changers who can put their human skin aside and hunt the forests in a bear's shape. Tales tell of the limitless strength of these mighty beasts, and the care they show for the natural world around them.”

In the ‘Changer’s War’ when magic was most chaotic, different breeds of shifters were created. Arturo Holt belongs to the most proud of these breeds. He is a werebear, imbued with the spirit of the mighty bear that gives him the ability to change into this noble beast. A clan of werebears was created, and soon other clans were created. Not much is known of Arturo’s clan ancestry though, the pride of being born from the spirit of the bear. They were protectors and warriors, guarding their forests and their families with the knowledge of a man, and the ferocity of the bear.

This is the culture that Arturo grew up in. Arturo is a proud warrior and a battle captain among the clan’s small army. He has fought in three wars in the forests north of the mountains. During these he lost great warriors and took the enemies warriors from them, all with the patron spirit of the bear looking over him. People looked to him for guidance and orders on and off the battlefield, the respect gained from his battle prowess. Even though he is one of the youngest of the battle captains, no one brings this to the table as a negative. The opposite is true, they believe that a younger warrior who shows exceptional ability only proves that he has longer to lead. He would have continued to lead a great army, if an army were needed.

During the first war he was strictly an infantryman. He took orders well and followed them through. He fought with the honor that he was now a warrior, he was 20 then. His training had been completed and a war had arisen. It was with some humans who were slaughtering animals and destroying the forest, making way to build a new settlement. These fiends had been setting fires and leaving half consumed carcasses too close to his clan’s territory and the All-Father, the chieftain, had declared war.

In his war party the battle captain had perished at the silver blade of one of the enemy warriors. Revenge for a fallen warrior is a sign of true honor among Arturo’s clan, and Arturo set out running towards the foul man, blade trailing behind him as he screamed until his lungs felt about to burst. The enemy turned towards him and raised his sword but it was too late. The man raised his silver clawed gauntlet up in defense, but still, it was too late. Arturo chopped down with an overhead swing, careless of defense, malice and revenge filling his heart. Before the humans last breath escaped from the corpse, he swung the gauntlet and cut Arturo along his face.

These silvery cuts healed over time but left him with the two scars on his face.
The honor that was bestowed upon Arturo after that fight never left him, and from that day on he was looked upon with respect and for guidance on and off the battlefield. He carried the fallen battle captain’s sword throughout the next two wars. There had been three wars total in the five years that he led as a battle captain. The wars ended, each time the clan had been victorious.

Peace had finally come to his clan’s forest and this has left him stir crazy, with a feeling of uselessness. It had been two years since even a small discrepancy came to blows, and because of this, Arturo left. He made his trek down from the mountains. He’s looking for a place to be needed or at least useful in some way. His forest was left in the capable hands of his fellow comrades, to lead the army in case of a war that was probably never going to happen again.

The wars have been fought and all that was left for the young warrior was the road. He has started to fill the thrill of goals and objectives again that he hasn’t felt since the battlefield. He has fought things along the travel that he had never seen before in his reclusive forest. Things he couldn’t even come close to identifying what they were.

Because of this excitement, be them few and far between, he believes that he has chosen the right path. The spirit guides him along in his journey, as it guided him on the battlefield. He continues his journey and the adventures that come along with it.
