If you have created a new character and are actively looking for a plot to get involved with, you can make a post here to let everyone know.

One of the most common things new players tell me is that it's hard to get started, and the plot discussions are really long and I don't know where to begin.

Starting can be hard and just posting in this thread is a good idea, but it isn't a total solution. You may have to do a bit of work to find a place where you belong. There are a number of other options available to you:

I never recommend that any new player begins by creating a new post alone in the hopes that a random person will choose to join. The chances of someone reading your thread and dropping in without being specifically invited are very slim for a number of reasons. Most active writers are already involved in stories, and many people don't feel comfortable stepping in without knowing who you are. They may not even notice your thread.

Introduce yourself to us in the player communication forum. Let us know who you are, join us in our random discussions to let us know you're active and part of the community. Silly random discussions are not pointless, they help us get to know each other.

Use the shoutbox or join us in the chat room if you see someone in there. This is the best way to make friends right away, and the fastest way to discuss a potential plot.

PM someone who looks active and who you think you might want to write with. It's flattering to receive a PM like that, and there's a very good chance it will be well received. You can PM me or another staff member if you like, and ask for guidance and help.

Be patient. Keep looking, keep trying. If you give up after a few days or even a week, there's nothing we can do. Why might it take so long to find a place? Sometimes everyone is in a plot and you'll have to wait a while for them to free up, or maybe it's hard to think of a way to incorporate the kind of character you've created. Don't worry about it. It's part of the game.

Gan Pingzhi - melancholic and musical Tian Xian soldier based in Nanyue (Southern Tian Xia)

(I've been saving this guy for a Tian Xian drama/angst-fest. Relationship problems, unrequited love, the kinds of things a homesick soldier does not particularly need on his plate when meant to be resting from facing the horrors of the southern jungles. Also a chance to explore the setting of Nanyue a bit more.)

(If Corey's hiatus goes for a while, I will free up Abagha for a travelling RP romp in Tian Xia, starting in the north, then basically have him be a tourist as a way to explore aspects of Tian Xia's setting. There'd be plenty of scope for travelling companions in such a narrative.)

Ren Brokk - Marn's most lovable and least trustworthy street vendor. Means well, despite the explosions. Hates enclosed spaces, rabbits and pigeons.

Tius Morrington - wealthy scion, avid reader, seasoned traveller and political animal.

Iolan Kephla - Grizzled veteran, marksman, tracker, bounty hunter and all round ornery alcoholic.

First off, I have sent a PM with some ideas to you Quintus, if you are active and want to discuss a plot with me.

It would be nice if people can find time to write a few short run ins between Renee and their characters. I don’t expect anybody to have immediate ideas for how to weave my character into more complex things. But I’d like to write something, as an instep.

I’ll try to be on the chat once in a while, but as some of you already know, I’m in the CET time zone and ten hours behind some of you. I seem to always be eating breakfast when you are online. So I hope it will be okay with PMs too.

My thoughts right now

Renee has been living in Marn her whole life. She can be assumed to know the public basics about the current situation in the city, but only the things any citizen would know about. As a shop owner and eccentric focused on her own things, she has so far not been directly involved in anything dramatic or with core people in Marn. She has stayed out of range and minded her own business. This is however about to start to change (I hope). One day, she happens to stumble over ... a person, a secret, an item, a danger, something.

And maybe Renee and her shop and house can be known by other people in Marn in the same distant way. Places they may have seen in passing by or sometimes visited. A person they may have heard the name of and perhaps seen around once in a while, or even bought something of at some point, but don’t really know. This is however about to start to change (I hope). One day they happen to stroll in to a kitsch shop ... or they do something else that brings them into contact with Renee.

Or ... if your characters are already in an ongoing thread where it would be possible for me to join Renee to your plot I'm open for this too.

I have been a bad Tov lately and abandoned everyone and everything. But! I want to remedy that. So, if you have ever had the desire to rp with my most delightful and fantastic self, now is the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to do so!

Characters up for messing with:

Nadejda (in Zhaltev) - who doesn't wanna rp with the Queen of the Fascist Werewolves as she struggles to retain control of her clan and not think too much about how blood purity might be a bad thing?

Trick - likes long walks on the beach, good company and food, and blowing up government buildings.

Miklos - known as The Birdman, he's a grumpy stick in the mud with a heart of gold. Or something.

As Dianelopa hasn't been seen for quite some time, Morry is available for plotting.

Morry is in Marn or Shim and is happy to do whatever seedy, illegal thing needs being done. He's very easily manipulated because nobody likes him, so show him the tiniest bit of kindness and he'll be your loyal wolf. He's also the perfect enemy/villian due to his irrational habit of overreacting to small things.

Some characters available for the whole plotting thing, since I'm easing my way back into writing on Thar.

Egg, the gnomish inventor with the sunny personality and the heart of gold. He lives in Marn, but would be available for things in Shim as well. Particularly available to characters that either work in inns, own inns, or are looking for wild and crazy inventions. The more possibility it goes 'boom' the more fun he'll be.

Artyom, for any shifter characters that reside in or around Zhaltev. He's rather high up in the hiearchy of his family, but he's generally willing to meet and talk to others. Unfortunately he will not be available outside of the area of Zhaltev, as he doesn't travel abroad very much. Artyom is a very shifty and calculating person, and likes to play with people.

Aleksis, another shifter character that resides in Zhaltev. Unlike Artyom, Aleksis does have the ability to be further away from Zhaltev, as he sometimes works as a caravan guard and can be away from the city at times. He's very large and intimidating, but has a very open and honest personality, and doesn't really understand people well, not realizing when they're trying to be shifty with him.

Kori- The Northern Barbarian that's supposed to be either a part of some sort of rebellious activity or an informant on said activity. No one really knows. Right now he's dealing with a lot of stuff, heavy heavy mental stuff, and he's wandering in the Marn/Shim area. He's a very volatile personality, very easy to pick out of a crowd, and he's starting to hear things, voices in his head. Can he even make friends at this point? Or is everyone an enemy? Let's find out.

Jacme- A lovely guard in the City of Marn. He's not very open, not very nice, but he can become a friend if someone proves themself. In his mind proving themselves is not bothering him, not constantly trying to get him to talk to them or anything like that. If you can hang around him without bugging him and annoying him, he may very well start talking to you in a friendly manner. Also. If you gamble, he's your man. Throw some dice with him, play some cards. Alls fair in cards and war.

Shiv- The super superstitious sailor character. Covered in numerous good luck charms and good luck tattoos, seeing signs and portents of the spirits everywhere and doing what he can to appease them. He's not so much a fighter as a 'floater', someone who just floats along the tide and where it takes him. But when it comes time to fight, Shiv will fight to get away from the fight. Once he's done fighting clear of the imminent danger, he's ready to stop the violence. He just likes to sail. He can be found almost anywhere in the world, in any port or any vessel.
