Everything was black, and firey. He looked down at his feet and he saw nothing that distinguished itself as the ground. He couldn't feel it, it was just there, it looked same as everything else, except for the fire. No off in the distance of the black void he could see the flames. They were so far away, but he could still make out every individual lick of flame. He ran towards them as if it were a sign of something horrible happening. He ran and ran and kept running, the flames never moved closer.

He tried to call to the flames, to make them come closer but they wouldn't he was too far away. He just kept running towards them, he had to get to the flames. He didn't know why, just that it was his only goal. Running and running.

He slammed into something hard and fell down. He hadn't seen anything, but it was as if there was a wall had appeared in front of him from nowhere.

He looked up, trying to find what had hit him. The fires went away in the distance almost instantly. From where they were in the distance, they now stood in front of him, in the shape of a monstrous being.

It was completely made of fire, it was enormous. It had wings and long, curling horns.

Devon tried to stand up to run, he looked into it's eyes. Dark pools of shadows, they were about the size of Devon's head. The beast was just too much evilness to bare. When he stood up and turned to run , the monster yelled Devon's name and swooped a giant hand down and caught him. His whole body was covered by this...this...this demon's hand.

Devon had seen this all before, in the field when he had met Maara. It had all been a dream.

"GRAHAHAHAHA JUST AS ALL OF THEM. YOU ARE AS IGNORANT AS YOUR FALLEN KIN. THIS IS NO DREAM AKULA."
The fiery horned head came closer, they eyes..or atleast the lack of fire in the place that eyes would be went smaller. It made...it...look even more menacing than it already did.

"YOU WILL NOT RUN FROM ME. YOU WILL NOT ESCAPE WITH YOUR SOUL. IT IS HOPELESS." It laughed.

Blowing hot steam or maybe it was smoke into Devon's face, it would have covered his whole body but the demon's hand was already doing that.

"AND AGAIN AKULA, THIS....IS......NOT.........A DREAAAMMMM! GRAHAHAHAAHAHA!"

Devon didn't know what it was, the fear or the... no it was probably the fear, but he passed out. The monster grinning the entire time as he lost his grip on this un-reality.

Drake turned away from the man's little show unimpressed. He'd seen his fair share of parlor tricks and wasn't about to praise skill in something so......childish. He paced around the little clearing a bit while the man talked. It still puzzled him that Devon had managed to slip away without him noticing. Even if the man had used magic as his means, the half-elf's keen senses should have picked it up. He had come a few hundred yards into the forest and located this clearing with pin-point accuracy based on nothing but the trace of magic he had felt after all.

He saw Maara, run a finger over the scar he'd noticed before. He couldn't help but pity her some, sharing the same kind of scars as he did. A light chuckle escaped his chest ant the last words the girl spoke. "A very strange and interesting day," he repeated for his own humor.

"Drake Istalii," he said as he squatted down and examined the ground where he thought he remembered Devon standing. "Not much to say about why I'm here. I sensed magic out here in the forest and got curious. I was on my way back to Marn when I noticed it." He left off there for a few minutes, not even really realizing he'd done it. He was too absorbed in figuring out the little disappearing act they'd witnessed....or hadn't. Not until he felt as if an expectant air had built up, did he realize it, anyway. "Oh, right. I could show you there if you'd like. It's a pretty long walk out of these woods, and you could get lost if you don't know the way to the road already."

He stood and let out a frustrated sigh. There was just no way he was going to figure this out right now. "Well?" he asked, turning back to the other two.

"A very strange and interesting day"

Anton had to agree with this point. It was strange that a man would so dismissively speak of beings far more powerful than him and terribly interesting that swift retribution came as such a shock to the people here. There were still faint whispers in the air that spoke of something terrible, ripples of the intent and purpose that had driven the deed, and the full truth of what had happened here was available to anyone who would listen. Needless to say Anton didn’t listen as though he had some mild curiosity in relation to the entire disappearing man event ancient and incomprehensible evil always gave him a headache. So Anton kept all this to himself and instead decided to listen to the far less ominous voices of Drake and Maara.

Considering Marn clung to the idea that magic was a bad thing it did strike him as an odd that Maara had choosen it as the place to go looking for magical training. Of course Anton had travelled hundreds of miles to come to Marn for reasons he couldn’t even remember anymore so perhaps wasn’t in the position to point out Maara's folly. In all likelihood there was a part of her story being quite deliberately omitted and it was in fact this that compelled her to the city. There was definitely something odd about her.... but that was true of nearly everyone he’d met

"... I could show you there if you'd like. It's a pretty long walk out of these woods, and you could get lost if you don't know the way to the road already."

Like Drake Istalii, he was odd too. Not as odd as Maara appeared to be but enough to warrant some consideration. So here was a man of a the eleven persuasions with some skill in detecting magic, an ability to control shadows and, to top it all, a willing tour guide. They'd make for interesting company, lot more interesting than Lyssak would like his companion to be, and in all likelihood he could get to Marn himself. unfortunately all Anton really knew about Marn was how to spell it and while he still believed would give him a significant advantage over any of the locals he doubted if would offer any practical assistance

"Well if it's no trouble I'd be delighted to tag along" Anton beamed "After all, safety in numbers."

Admittedly that hadn't been true for Anton’s other travelling companions but there wasn't any sense in dwelling on that.
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?
You'd better run.
You'd better take cover.

"Well if it's no trouble I'd be delighted to tag along. After all, safety in numbers." The man named Anton replied cheerfully.

She started to feel more cheerful to have travelling companions on her way, at least for a little while. Her determination to keep her promise to her mother and her fear of someone discovering what she was had been the only things that kept her from travelling and meeting a lot of people during her journey to Marn. She finally admitted to herself that it made her lonely and somewhat paranoid of hidden dangers that were not even there. Maara regretted that now and she was more then happy to travel with them.

“I would love to came along with you.” She smiled at the two men. “To be honest I was a little lost anyway. My sense of direction is a little off.” She turned away from them when she felt herself blush a little and looked at her things. The rabbits and the bread were ash now and her water jug had been spilt, but her bag and everything in it seemed to be in good condition. She put the jug away and made sure that the bag was closed before picking it up. Maara had almost slipped the strap on her right shoulder, but the dull throb of pain and the light itching sensation reminded her that her right wing was broken and the presser of the strap might interrupted the healing process. And since she didn’t think she could trust either of these men to help her reset and recast the bone, she slipped the strap on her left shoulder and situated it so it wouldn’t upset her left wing too much as she travelled.

As soon as she was done, Maara turn to the men again and smiled. “Well then, I’m ready when you are. So please, Mr. Istalii, lead on.”

Drake nodded at his two new companions and turned towards the forest where he'd entered the clearing. With a bouncing step he took off at the tallest tree in that direction, leaped up off the ground, and hit its side with a scraping of boots on rough bark. He scrambled up through the limbs in a flurry of vaulting and bouncing. It only took him the better part of three minutes to get all the way up to the very top.

He sat there a moment with his eyes closed, enjoying the cool breeze against his skin, before scanning for signs of the city out in the distance. With its direction marked he descended again, twice as fast as he'd gone up. He shot out of the bushy cover of the limbs once he was close enough to the ground and drifted back to the earth in the clearing.

"Well, let's go," he said, as if he hadn't just done something out of the ordinary. He turned and struck out in the general direction of the road. A low growl of frustration escaped him as the underbrush snagged at his clothes. He hated walking on the forest floor, but he knew the others wouldn't be able to keep up with him if he were in the trees while they were down here.
