Welcome all ye new people! And Corey, what are you talking about, you're not new. I've known you for at least fifteen minutes, you're practically a veteran Shaddinian. And if you want drama, we got all kinds here. Purple drama and metal drama and deep-fried cotton candy caramel drama...

Long as it isn't the kind of drama that makes my char's worthless cause they can't shoot lightning bolts from their ass, I'm fine with that.

Hi all!

I just had my character approved, so I thought I would introduce myself. My name is Adam, and I've been doing RP games in one form or another for a long time. I tend to play quirky sort of characters, and Twik will be no exception to that.

I have a long and complex plot idea based on Twik's past (she was captive of a mysterious cult who will be trying to track her down), but I thought I'd like to get my feet wet in a thread where I wasn't so focal first.

New peoples, yay! Welcome to the board, make sure you post here http://www.tharshaddin.com/rp/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1497 when your character is approved, and be sure to click around the board! Lots of fun threads to check out, both IC and OOC. Also, if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask! :3

Hey, new here, was led here by a mate of mine who will also likely be joining the boards in the days to come. I've been part of a community called Academy of Magic which runs a freeform RP based on magic the gathering for about five years, but it's been dying out and all the attempts to revive the board haven't worked out.

So I'm here. After growing up on AoM and out of my beginner RP state of horrible character design and interaction, I feel like I need to move on. I want to start fresh with my character ideas in a truly freeform playground (I was bound by the laws of MTG, such as magic colour and the like). I have a character all planned, everything. He just needs to be written into the new system.

However, I'd appreciate some answers for a few questions I have about my character, just to make sure he will fit into the setting and that you guys are okay with it. On AoM, my character came from his own planet/plane called Yorfallia, which I had developed with several plots in mind and which also contained a lot of lore and information on why my character was what he was.

While I understand that introducing another planet into a setting is too much to ask for, I do want Yorfallia. I'm asking if there's some way I can introduce Yorfallia as an isolated land, my character travelling away from it and leaving itself away from the other places until such a time that it could be used for a plot. If you would like to hear more about details of Yorfallia, PM me or whatever and I'll get around to explaning as much as I can about it.

I can live with any objections to this desire though, but the closer I can be to my original design the happier I'll be. I'm sure we can work something out. One thing I'll put out there is that I couldn't find any details on Australia's fictional equivalent in the setting. Perhaps that continent could be used for Yorfallia? It would be actually rather fitting, because I am Australian in real life.

Anyway, these are all just questions, not demands. Tell me how far you will allow me to take this idea and I will work with it to make my character fit in, even if I have to rewrite his origins.

So with that out of the way, nice to be here, and I look forward to getting to know you all.

I got away with inventing a demonic alternate dimension for my first character, but it has no real effect on the plot. I know we've had at least one character from a totally different invented immortal plane as well. If you have a detailed world that you want to be really integrated with your character, though, I'd suggest PMing Frug, Niabi and/or Metarie about it.

Hey, new here, was led here by a mate of mine who will also likely be joining the boards in the days to come.
That would be me.
I too originally hail from the Academy of Magic*. Because the forum was/is dying, I also wanted to move on, and began my quest for a new home. After googling 'freeform rp forum' my quest soon brought me here. And so far, me likey.

Despite having some experience in rp-writing, I consider myself relatively inexperienced in the art of writing, and think it necessary to note that English is not my primary language. Which isn't much of a problem, but I'm just throwing it out there in case I ever make a few weird mistakes.

I would like to know what narrative styles are acceptable on this forum, as I like fooling around with different points of view and writing styles (I especially enjoy 3rd person present and 2nd person).

I'm still working on a character at the moment, and am not sure when it'll be ready. It might take a while.

So with that out of the way, nice to be here, and I look forward to getting to know you all.
And yes, I just copied that line from Jean's post. I'm so naughty.

Hey guys! I'm glad you found Thar -- it is a great place to do some freeform fantasy. One of the great things about it is that there is a lot of room to expand to make your own races, cultures, cities etc. You can do what Derin did, and have your stuff on a new plane of existence (though it would not be easily accessible and your character would have to somehow travel to Thar, likely getting stranded in the process) or you could do as you first suggested and go for Australia.

We did have a player a while back who did a write up for Australia, but as he wound up taking a hike without actually ever doing anything with it, I'm pretty sure you can take it and go.

Definitely read up on the rest of the setting -- if your peoples are advanced and connected to the rest of the world at all they will likely use bishani as a currency and be fully aware of the Changers and the Changer's War and all of that.

The one thing the admins/mods are likely to ask is that Yorfalia not be too filled with uberly powerful mages/races/warriors and that you are able to fit your lore into the setting (which I'm sure you know since you've rped in a stricter ruleset before, but better safe than sorry ;) ). I should also warn you that admins/mods prefer your first time characters to be relatively well balanced and not too powerful. If you've already read all of this in the setting and shiz I apologize for the reiteration.

With all of that said, I bid you a hearty welcome to Thar! I also came here after another rp site, though in that case I more grew out of it and its crazy administrator dictatorship (people here are sane, which is nice) so I can relate with how difficult it can be. I hope you find your place here, and get some great characters and threads going. :)

And also, hop in chat sometime. Usually there's a few to a bunch of us on during weekdays, and we can easily work out any questions you might have in chat.

edit - somehow I missed Manfred's questions. Sorry bout that, man. >>

We use third person, though I'm unsure if that is a rule or just the preferred way to go. We also use past tense, though again I'm pretty sure that's more an unspoken agreement than anything (as most people prefer past, so unless all of you went for present it would look kinda. . .awkward. Though, I will say I can be extremely guilty of mixing them. Oops!).

I could repeat everything Saruna just said but I won't. Anyways welcome to Thar.

You are welcome to create your own races or expand on parts of the world that have not been developed yet and basically do what you will as long as it fits with the rest of the setting. We will ask that you run things past us and read up a bit on the history of the setting but I believe that we are rather chill about the whole process.

As far as the writing style, we usually use third person, past tense but I have seen people use third person present and if the other people you are writing with don't mind, I don't see there being much of a problem of you using a different tense as long as you don't constantly change within the same post and make it confusing to read.

Well I just talked to you in chat about it, but from what I have seen your English is far better than well a lot of young kids who speak English as a first language, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Hellooo :) My name is Shanna. I've been stalking you guys for a couple days now lol, just getting the feel for the site. && I LOVE IT! I love writing, it really is my passion. Although I don't do it as much as I used to. I've created 2 of my own Rp sites, one much more cherished than the other. Fieberträume was my pride and joy. Alike in alot of the same ways as this, but also very different. I lost the majority of the content I had, including the histories and complete layout of my world. (except for whats still in my brain. Which isn't saying much :p) But thanks to msn groups closing (BTW thanks a fkn lot i really appreciate it  ) lmao they are no more. Anywho, since that i've really missed writing, and my characters so I hope to have found them a new home.

I live in SW Florida. It isn't all it cracks up to be. When your born and raised here, the sun and beaches just don't do it for you after 20 years. I'd much rather be in the country somewhere or in the mountains <333 (Maybe thats because i've never seen the snow or know what a real winter is) I work full time so i've really had to force time in to write. (which I should do any ways!!) && Im not going to bable on forever. Just wanted to intoroduce myself.

HEY!!!!

Now off to reconstructing my character...

HEY!!! yourself there. ;) Thar is a great place to throw down creative ideas and the like, so I hope you're able to create yourself a niche here. I live in Alaska, myself, and can say with a straight face that Florida is way too freaking hot. Definitely melt weather.

If you have any questions, be sure to ask them either on the board or in chat; usually there's one or two of us in there.

Welcome to Thar!

Hihi! Welcome to Thar, we're glad to have you. Just leave any of that ol' INTERNETZ drama outside and all will be right with the world.

Nia's right, we do want you to be familiar with the setting. A few other things to remember:

Frug is GOD and never, ever question Nia. She has HOOVES. They hurt.

And thank you!! Alaska, wow would I love to be there!!!

I've got some finishing up to do with my character, so I will see you guys in Thar!
If I have any questions I won't hesitate to ask. Thanks guys.

And I do have one question. I see on the races page when your talking about the lifespan of Werewolves. It says it varies per specie, but up to 2 centuries and I've read one of Niabi's posts on the character application forum and she says only about 150 years. O.o
