Hey both of you! I totally missed Vulgarth's post somehow so very belated welcome if your'e still hanging around! And a more recent welcome to Falshier; if you need some help fleshing out your character or some ideas for extra stuff to go into his creation be sure to pipe up. We're all good for slinging around ideas to help out with the new character thing.

You can call me Narithe, or Marci (my real name), if you prefer.

I'm relatively new to roleplay, and look forward to being able to participate in what seems to be a highly literate and supportive environment. Though I'm not certain if it will be permissible, I believe that I will create a female human blacksmith, simply because I have some knowledge of metalwork, and feel that I could play such a character accurately.

I have been involved in one play-by-post forum game in the past, but the experience was a rather negative one in many respects, so I have decided to make a fresh start here. I apologize if I am rather shy at times, as I don't always feel comfortable in a new environment, and I may not be the most active poster until I get a feel for the way things work here in Thar Shaddin.

I'm glad to have found such an interesting setting, and I will likely post the first draft of my character shortly.

Hey Narithe, welcome!

I think you'll find us to be a very supportive community (if a bit crazy sometimes) with lots of expansion for doing your own thang when you need to. This is a low, low drama place with really great admins and some freakin' spectacular rpers. I came here early this year after having a sour ending at a place I'd been rping at for awhile, first time ever doing serious PbP rp, and though it took me awhile to get into some good threads every step of the way has been well worth it.

RP can be a great pastime, but a lot of the time it depends on your surroundings and fellow rpers to make it great. And, well, even if you find that this site isn't quite what you're looking for, if you ask any of us for some other recommendations I'm sure we'll be able to give you a few. I hope whatever experience you do have here is a positive one!

And when you feel more comfortable, do come to chat to goof around with us. Sometimes we do some chat rp, sometimes we're just joking around, sometimes we're just trading mundane details about life, but all in all the people are friendly and the conversation is usually pretty good (unless we're all quiet in there, haha).

I guess we're assuming that the negative experience is due to drama. That's fairly common, unfortunately, and something we have very little of. I mean, we're still human but we manage.

Hey there, I'm Joe. I have a bajillion characters here, most of them not currently in threads. Thar Shaddin is where I started RPing, and I found it a great beginner experience. Even now that I'm a little sour in the armpits after having been here for 2 years give or take, I still find the environment rewarding. Hope to see you in chat some time!

Hey, im new and im in the process of writing out my characters application, ill probably have it finished either tomorrow or sunday. I was wondering if anyone could give me links within the forum to

1) an example of pvp.
2) an example of a fight a fight between players and npc's, basically pve i guess.
3) and an example of a normal rp without any fighting in it

I used to do a lot of this on other boards but that was 4 or 5 years ago so id like to read some examples to brush up and have the links to look back on for future reference. Preferably id like examples of really 'blow your mind good' posts, but as long as they're decent and give me a better idea of my limitations thats basically all im looking for.

Oh and on a side note, I read through most of the setting section and all it basically said (at least that I saw, could have missed it though) is that the language of the country is a form of latin with greek and elvish influence. Do you have a specific name for the language?

First of all I want to point out that we don't do very much fighting here. Unlike a lot of other forums, we are more about character development than having characters randomly attack each other for no apparent reason. How often do you see people just walking down the street doing their everyday routine when they just start fighting the baker or shoemaker? Not often. We allow fighting if it needs to be in a thread but we allow each person to decide if they want it or not. In our rule section you must have seen the part about that says that things like fighting need to be discussed with others ahead of time and you can't just kill or injury another person's character without their permission.

If you like you can send me a PM or catch me in chat and I can fill you in more about fighting and what we allow.

As far as the language goes, we call it Eyropian. Just write out dialogue in English and it is assumed that all local people will speak Eyropian, or they will make it a point to point out that they speak something else.

The nice thing about Thar is that there's a chat room and an organized OoC section, so you can just talk with your plot-mates about how the fighting would best occur.

I'm new to the realm but not the idea of RP. I hope to have a great time writing with all of you, and make some new friends. I'm fairly easy to get along with, although a bit shy at times. Well...that's really all I have to say for myself. Take care, and happy writings!

Hiya, I've just signed up, I've been looking for a new place to RP since my last one got overly political and wasn't anymore fun for me. I need a writing outlet and this looks like a really good place to try out.

I've been RPing for over 10 years in forum based settings, and while I don't consider myself a great writer I do enjoy it very much. I am working on a character, not exactly sure which direction I want to go so I'm taking it slow, but I did want to say hi and introduce myself.

My name is Alicia, I'm a stay at home mom with two little girls (4 and almost 3). I also try to part time freelance web design/development. While I don't have a lot of time between family, work and the house I can contribute to a post a day at minimum sometimes more depending on how things all situate themselves.

Hopefully I'll be able to finish my character application soon, and then try to join ya'll here. I look forward to meeting more of you and meeting your characters as well.
