Ok so this is kinda a reminiscing, when I was a kid kinda topic where we talk about the TV and games and shit from when we were kids.

This was inspired by a sudden memory I had of the Garbage Pale Kids... anyone remember those?

I dunno what everyone's age is here so maybe I am the only one (I am 27 on Oct 13th).

Also, Fraggle Rock, He-Man (original cartoon, I used to think my granddad looked like Skeletor), Ghost Busters, the 'bouncy ball' phase, anything being used as a light sabre - stick, knife, mum's curtain rail - Transformers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Dungeons and Dragons (game, cartoon, everything) the CARE BEARS!! And for me, My Little Pony (my favourite one was a unicorn called Gusty. <_< )

With all the hi tech remakes of shit I think we should reminisce the originals. The Dark Crystal, Willow, Krull and the like. The first time you watched Conan, Star Wars, Evil Dead and Terminator. I remember being on a caravan holiday and watching Salems Lot with my brothers at the age of five. I have been desensitized to horror ever since. ALL HAIL THE CRIMSON KING!!! (A cookie for the nerd who gets that book reference. And Kudos too, muchos kudos. )

YES garbage pail kids. Oooh, but those things freaked me out too.

And yeah, so He-Man and the Masters of the Universe is on DVD. It's quite a trip to watch. As much of an icon as TMNT was, a good number of my friends were really into Ghostbusters. Had one of those ghost traps that you open up by stepping on a foot-pump.

Yup, everything you just mentioned was stuff that I used to watch as a kid, plus Batman, Spiderman, Fantastic Four, etc. cartoons.

Deffinetly! Heh...I had the carebear heartshaped home with most the carebears...
I had the Ninja turtle city sewer...hot air balloon..pizza thrower..ya know all the works..
star wars wow...if only my figures were in good shape...I'd be quite happy
My little pony...uh..I had one of the castles plus lots of the ponies and Spike!!

He-Man..I don't remember if I had that much but I had kringer! OOooo and I infat recently spoiled my kid side...'coughs' I bought series 1 of She-ra because it had the He-man / She-ra movie...this was an obvious necessity to anyone remembering all the old shows.

Hm...Care Bears...I don't have the figures anymore...I do own the 2 main movies (childhood...yah...) I also started up a minor care bear stuffy collection...mostly I got 2 sitting on my work desk (along with my hot wheels cars, star wars figures, and pictures of my dog...its an intresting desk to say the least)

Anyway..so yah...I remember all you mentioned. I'm also 27. Oooo do you remember Atari? I thought nintendo was pretty amazing after Atari and look what all we got now..

My grandparents had Atari to keep us kids occupied when we visited. Of course, they lived by the ocean, so there was always the beach too, but on rainy days, that's what we did. Mostly Frogger, but Asteroid too.

Frogger I remember playing on the computer. You know..the black and green screens...color was like such an amazing thing when it came out.

Here's the stuff that you listed that I remember at 24.

No garbage pale kids.

No idea what the 'bouncy ball' phase, is, never watched the D&D show, and actually D&D for me came much later, around high school. But I was a rampant teen at the time.

Most of these things have had remakes done recently, except for He Man and possibly Ghost Busters (I think there may have been a newer cartoon made).

Dark Crystal and Willow come with big recommendations from my friends. I've seen them both at some point. I don't like star wars (I like the setting but not the movies, and definitely not the new ones). EVIL DEAD (BRUCE CAMPBELL IS MY HERO). Terminator was and still is great.

No crimson king though. No idea.

I was numbed by SK so for me it was funny... they are kinda creepy though.

Hehe, Cody you are a girl right? I am wondering if you had Sylvanian Families then... if that's what they were called... little animals dressed like people and their little houses and whatnot. I loved those.

And yeah I remember Atari, and Amstrad. My best mate from school had a Spectrum and we used to play Lemmings on rainy days at her house and Dizzy and Friday the 13th and Roland on the Ropes/in the Caves on my brothers Amstrad at my house. Can't forget Space Invaders and Pac Man as well, and at the arcade playing X-Men this four player car game and Street Fighter... ooooh and a game called Renegade... anyone remember that?

And Kam, did you have the comic books too? My brothers collected everything Marvel, from the Thing to Spiderman, Spidey being their favourite (along with the X-Men). When I was a kid I knew everything about most Marvel characters, I forget a lot of it now, but still love the comics.

And Frug, the bouncy ball phase was in schools here in the UK. In the toy shops there were all kinds of bouncy balls and so many games we used to play with them... at one point (coming from a family of ten children remember) we must of had like 100 balls between us. I was just trying to think of the toys that were popular back then...

Evil Dead is the shit. Ash is so freaking funny. I love Sam Raimi.

I agree about Star Wars, I am not a fan of any of the movies, I know that is sacrilege but I am just not a sci fi fan really. I prefer purer fantasy. Ergo I loved Willow and The Dark Crystal. Does that mean you have seen them Frug? I couldn't work out from your post if you had or not? They are actually making a sequel to the Dark Crystal which looks fantastic. Because it was so expensive to make back in the 80's and only had a cult following they waited until the technology was fab and when people were happy with the fantasy genre, which thanks to LotR's has happened.

And now for someone really old...

I remember Pong. You know, the computer version of table tennis, where the entire game consisted of bouncing a ball back and forth between two sliding bars. Damn thing wasn't even in color. But it was a cutting edge home video game at the time, and all the neighborhood kids wanted to come over and play it.

I remember my parents buying a new-fangled device called a VCR. Which I was really excited about, because dumb old PBS showed Dr. Who at fucking midnight, and I had to go to bed way before that. But now I could record it and watch it the next day. What a miracle!

My mom was actually the huge Star Wars fan. She had all the toys -- she even had Star Wars sheets, although my dad never let her actually put them on the bed. In order to have an excuse to see the movie time and time again, she would bribe my sister and me by offering to take us out for a soda afterwards, and that way she could claim she was just going because we wanted to.

I remember when first edition D&D books, along with a few miniatures and dice, were being sold in the back corner of a shop that otherwise specialized in doll house supplies. Go figure.

We had the shitty Betamax (sp?) before we got a VCR. And I 'accidentally' broke my brothers Millennium Falcon (as revenge for burying ALL of my toys).

Betamax were actually better than VCR, but they never caught on. By the time VCRs had got to three hours long, Betamax had been six hours long for years. Plus the picture quality and sound quality were twice as good if not more on Betamax.

Anybody remember remote control on a wire? Or only having FOUR TV channels!? When Big Brother was just a feature in George Orwell's 1984?

When Michael Jackson was famous for his music, not his antics behind the stage? Bon Jovi in the Eighties (Although he's still going strong... and still my favourite band...)

I used to air guitar when I was eight to living on a prayer. And yeah, I loved Billy Jean and Bad as well, used to dance to it with my best mate. I still think of MJ as one of music's greatest artists... such a shame.

Yup, I'm a girl.
I never saw the sylvian families that I can remember. I was the kid that had a million animal and dinosaur figures. I don't know if they were popular everywhere but it seemed like all my friends and myself were thrilled with dinosaurs.

Was Betamax the tapes that resembled video's but were shorter? I know we had a couple of those video's but don't remember anything that played them.

I loved the pong game, it wasn't the most graphically detailed game of course but it had simple amusement to it.
I got one of those cheap game systems that has old nintendo games programmed in it...this included pong and duck hunt. So when I want to reminisce I'll go plug that in.

Bouncy balls, marbles, and tac's...I had a large collection of all those in a jar

Yeah, I had loads of plastic dinosaurs and farm animals etc, as well.

And I saw Bon Jovi at the last concert at the old Wembly. Twas a fantastic day all round.
