Just leave me like you found me

Post by Dorcas Tansy » Wed Jul 27, 2005 3:41 pm

Dorcas stared back at Chris when he grinned at her from outside the cell. Her muddy eyes held an inquisitive fire just then. She wasn't shocked or scared by what had happened; she was merely receiving answers. The arch of her eyebrows above interested eyes was somehow almost lovely, for that moment.

Chris's words were accompanied by the shuffle of Dorcas's boots as she came past the bars. She stubbed her toe deliberately on the guard's body. Her ratty blue dress snagged on the bars, and she tugged it free, forming a new small rip among many others. When she turned to look at the others in the next cell, her left hand wandered back to her midsection to prod and squeeze at her ribs again.

She looked away from them and forgot them in a second. She was standing next to Chris such that he may not have noticed her reaching slowly for his wrist until she had just nearly grabbed him. She held onto his wrist with her large right hand, her grip impressive, and if not intimidating in its own right, at least unexpected from a young lady. Her left hand clutched at her ribs as if to hold herself together. Between her grips, she tied herself, Chris, and her injured ribs all in a lock of steely fingers.

"You have to help me," she said. It didn't come out as a plea. She was matter-of-fact. Her tone was the same one would use to tell a willful child that he had to have a time out. Perhaps she was afraid the man was about to try to bail on her.

Chris' attention was initially on Joy, who looked like he might actually be capable of helping in combat, and was level headed enough to point out, calmly, the obvious negative factors of their situation. Ordinarily, a statement like that might serve to knock some sense into someone, but not Chris.

He inhaled and opened his mouth to say something, and remained like that for a moment while he seemed to try and come up with a response. While he was forming his words, the girl caught his wrist and demanded his help. Hurriedly he answered them both.

"Yer a pessimist." He said pointing at Joy, and then looked down at Dorcas. "And yer crushin' my wrist."

No more answers were forthcoming from the man. In truth he felt sorry for her. He knew the fear that was inside of her intimately, and he had every intention of helping her out, but no intention of showing such emotions.

He may have seemed a tad bit more sane than he was before, but he was still anything but normal. Something about him looked constantly distracted. Perhaps it was the situation and his mind struggling to devise a plan of escape, but he looked more like he was struggling to shut out annoying voices in his head, which was, in fact, what he was doing. He shut his eyes and shook his head, as though a dozen people were asking him a dozen questions he didn't have answers for, and didn't care to have answers for anyway.

He pulled himself away from the girl and pounded the bottom of his right fist on the lock of the door to the other cell. There was a 'clunk' sound of the lock turning suddenly, and the door eased itself open half way.

"Fuck if imma wait fer ye ta waste time readin' that now." He said, meaning the paper Joy was holding. "Kin we just get the hell outta here? Tell me I dun' gotta do all the fuckin work."

Surely one of them had some sort of magic that could help. Surely. He looked anxious for an offer of assistance.

Joy

The slip of paper, Joy held to his breast with uncertainty. It was tempting, so very tempting, to let the young lady read it for him, but his nerves were on edge and he did not know who to trust. Why did the world have to be so complicated, and deceit so commonplace?

Plus, the young lady, Illilli as she called herself, was mightily distracting. Turning from the older man, he still responded to the words spoken to him. "Practical, not pessimistic." The words were complete with a rather uncharming wag of his right index finger. But his visual attention was on the woman. Joy tilted his head as he glanced at her, and frowned for a second. "And you, miss, would seem to have an allergic reaction to this place." The flickering of colors on her markings ceased, but he still worried about her increasingly uncomfortable expression.

The pop from the lock behind him, and the creak of the door partially swinging open, was both satisfying and alarming. "And he's right," Joy said, as the rescuer made it clear there was not time to idle reading, "we'll have to read it later. I'm with him, this place is no where near as fun as I thought it would be."

With that said, and a grin, Joy did not even bother to push the door open the rest of the way. He merely slipped through the opening provided, to minimize the creaking sound that could possibly alert the entire building to the situation of the escaped.

Now, he stood quite close to what would be an intimidating figure, if Joy wasn't so used to the type. Plus, he doubted he had anything to worry about his safety regarding him - the fellow certainly didn't have to pull that unlocking trick he just did. "Thanks, by the way," he began merrily, brushing by him as he made his way to the left. "I saw a guard bring my belongings this way, including my sword." His tone there was quite suggestive, which he accented with a flourish of his wrists.

"And maybe we can find a back way out. How's that for pessimism?"

"Right..."

Illilli looked at the guard that was on the ground... He was out cold, had a nasty cut (that was begining to clot nicely) and he was probably going to have a nasty bruise in the region of his tenders from the kick she saw Dorcas land him.

Illilli took a deep breath, held it for 3 seconds and let it out... Finally getting a grip she rummaged in her backpack to find what was left of her spare skirt and quickly ripped its remains into wide strips.

"Yes, I need out of here. Perhaps I'll send them a letter with my account of what I saw later; being locked up is a bit steep... Why did I leave home anyway..." she muttered.

She looked at Dorcas and saw how she was holding her side.
"This should not take long. I think you may have cracked a rib. I've not treated something like this before as I usually just sprain my ankles or get scratched... but I did read about it once... If one of you gentlemen can return my short knife to me? Its all they confiscated from me... Its about yay so big..." she demonstrated by holding out a small four inch length of bandage.

Fully expecting to get scratched at and bit, Illilli made for Dorcas with the strips.

"Binding it will give you more support. So you won't have to keep holding it..."

Chris walked over to the chest that Joy pointed out and bent over to have a pull at the obviously locked lid. He gripped the metal box with his hands and gave the lid a good yank.

It didn't open.

Still remaining bent over in an uncomfortable position with his hands on the chest, the man looked away from it at nothing in particular. He seemed to be staring in the general direction of Joy, but his eyes were focused slightly to the side, at something else that wasn't there.

In his mind, he was giving an annoying, obnoxious spirit the stare down. A truly angry glower swept across his face, indicating that he meant it. They had better stop messing around and open the chest or he would do something nasty. Something he didn't know what (there really was nothing he could do to them).

He tilted his head and raised a brow quizzically, paused a moment as if listening to a response, and got one in the form of a *click* emanating from the chest. He pulled it open and sure enough found everyone's gear inside.

He grabbed the knife and tossed it haphazardly at Joy.

"'ere."

Dorcas was at a loss for decision for several moments. Was she to trust a woman more than a man? She was already having trouble establishing dominance in this company, however clinging to Chris wasn't helping her case. She scowled as Illilli approached and raised her arm away from holding her side. She didn't choose to loosen up on Chris; he got himself out of her grip. It was for the best, though. It would have looked juvenile for her to cling onto one adult while being nursed by another.

She balled her newly freed hand into a fist. Yes, her side was exposed to Illilli well enough that she could bind her, but she maintained her stiffness and her fist. She was bigger than her healer, and while she couldn't necessarily trust the woman, she figured she could take her on if needed. Arguably, trust is only necessary to a relationship in situations of vulnerability.

As she acquiesced to Illilli, Dorcas set her attention vaguely on Chris. He looked like he was staring intently at nothing. Perhaps he had a lazy eye. "Yar, 'e's a moron, is he?" she muttered to nobody in particular. But he was a moron who had located those items the guards had taken off of her. It wasn't much: a switchblade knife, a little pewter box with cloisonne detail on its lid, a sooty steel flask. There was nothing more of the supposedly scavenged goods to which the guard who'd brought her in had referred, and of course there was nothing of the cat she spoke of.

"Cahh, my books, my clothes, still out there an' the old bitch pro'ly took 'em," she said to Illilli in a creaky voice as she observed the uncovering of the stash. "And my kitty-cat," she added. She looked truly worried about that.

Ignoring the Fist...

Post by Illilli » Wed Aug 03, 2005 10:10 pm

Illilli Ignored Dorcas' fist hanging over her head as she concentrated on getting the binding tight. It had to be tight enough to support the injured side, yet loose enough she could breath as well as one can with an injured rib.

"Well, thats just about the last of my skirt... You needed it more than I do." Illili winked feeling more herself now that she was out of the cell.

"As I've said several times before, my name is Illilli... Ah there we go... Done." she babble on as she finished tying up Dorca's Side.

"Hmm, hope your cat is ok. Though the guards seem to be a little hit or miss as far as how they treat people they probally haven't mistreated it." she said looking thoughtful.

She took a leftover strip of skirt and bound the forehead of the unconscious guard. He had been kind enough to give her water after all.

"So, what now?"

Joy

Catching the administrations of Illilli to the injured lady out of the corner of his eye, Joy had the majority of his attention elsewhere. Namely, on the box the man he had dubbed 'The Savior' in his head was glowering over. He gave a quasi uncomfortable grin as the rude expression seemed to be focused just next to him. Either the man had some sketchy eyesight, or perhaps he's just crazy. That thought arose just as the course woman spoke aloud the same thought.

The knife was plucked out of the air by the blade, and then flipped in the air to be caught by the handle. "Thank you.. but there should be something in there that will be a greater asset to this attempted escape." A wink followed the words, and he leaned over the lock box as the now bandaged woman retrieved her belongings. "And there it is..." he said with great delight, pulling out a rapier still in it's sheath.

As he was affixing it to his belt, Joy said with some pragmatism, "And as for a cat, they probably let it loose outside. They don't seem like the murdering type, but they don't seem to be the type to care for non combative animals either."

Shrugging, he began searching for a way out that -wasn't- the front way. He was sure the 'church' was well defended, and he moved his hands over the walls as if gold might just be hidden under a brick.

Joy took the rapier out of the chest and Chris gave the thing a demeaning look, as if the man was whipping out a particularly small phallus. The rapier was one weapon he'd never even tried using, for reasons of both circumstance and personal taste.

He didn't seem particularly interested in Illilli's attentions to the Dorcas or the fallen guard. In fact, he seemed to be agitated at having to wait for her to finish up, and in quite a hurry to leave the place before someone else showed up to check on the prisoners.

He said nothing to Illilli or Dorcas, but paced menacingly back and forth, making it plainly obvious what he was thinking. When Illilli started tending to the guard, it only got worse, but still he said nothing. When he looked back at Joy, the man was searching the wall for something, and Chris had a general idea of what.

"Oh'n I suppose yer gonna find a handy dandy little fuckin' hole in the wall'n crawl through that now eh?" He remarked sarcastically.

Sure enough there were some loose bricks here and there, places where the mortar had begun to fall out and at least once spot that looked as though it had been patched up after being broken through. Other than that there were small grated windows behind each of the cells, too small for most people to fit through, and the disgusting piss holes underneath those windows that nobody would want to go through even if it was possible.

"Anytime yer all ready I'd like ta leave this fuckin place."

Dorcas squeaked with each wrap of her bindings. The firmly wrapped strips pressed her broken rib against her lungs each time she inhaled. One could only hope her rib was not broken such that a sharp point may press against her lungs and tear at the tissue.

She twisted away from Illilli just as the woman was leaving her side, and she fetched her belongings from the trunk. She clutched them all in one large, square hand, as the other was still poised near her injured middle.

The big guy, Chris, might come across as a moron, but at least his head was in the right place. "Outta here, yeah. I thort that was what we were planning on, huh?" she hissed at the group in general. She appeared to be attempting to hide a pout; she wasn't used to being so useless.

Somewhere not far beyond the walls, a big, coarse brown cat paced and yowled. Nobody would hear him inside the building.

Dorcas eyed Joy, who seemed to be at least the slightest bit useful. " . . . Have at it, then," she mumbled.

[Real sorry for the short post, fellas. Just about out the door for a much-needed mini-vacay. Will try to post while away, if not, then back on Wednesday. Skip me if needed!!]

"Well, I'm set..." Illilli said after retrieving her little dagger and putting it away on her belt once more.

"I'm very sorry to have taken so long..." she looked a little sad as she looked up at the ceiling.

"Any Chance we could go up through the roof maybe?" she didn't remember that this was a 2 story building from when she was escorted into the jail.

Joy

Post by Joy » Mon Aug 08, 2005 6:32 pm

Perhaps looking a little bit insane, Joy was getting quite fervent about one place in the wall in particular. He would in one moment plant his ear against it, the other rap it with his knuckle, and the next push on it with his shoulder. "A handy dandy... er... hole would be quite nice, if you ask me. How many guards did -you- spot in the antechamber good sir?" His voice was practically breathless, throaty as if all of his energies were engaged in groping the stone and mortar.

Suddenly Joy stepped back, hand rigid to either side of his frame. He took on the look of absolute concentration as his gaze swept over the two ladies and the larger man, and then with a nod he lunged. A swift motion, which was followed by a satisfactory hiss, brought into the light the steel of his rapier. And just as fluidly, he pierced the wall with it, driving the blade in to the hilt.

Stone dust crumbled slightly at this action, but no great opening was revealed. Joy, however, seemed ecstatic. Trying to keep his tone of voice down, his voice was electric in its quiet enthusiasm. "A weak point! We can exploit this, with enough force... someone, quick, grab something that could be used as a battering ram. It'll just be like in the stories, where knights pounded away at the castle gates, except we'll be exiting instead of entering!"

The words, the accompanied body language, were that of a kid in a candy store. He proceeded to shake the hilt, causing more and more flakes of inexpertly applied stone to the ground, accompanied by a small cloud of dust.

Almost as an afterthought, Joy turned to the sweet sounding lass, while still jiggling the blade in the wall. "I cannot fly Miss Illilli, and unless one of you good folk can, I see the roof as somewhat impractical." He was huffing at this point, his heart pounding in his chest. "We need to get out of here before they find us!" Somehow, in stating the obvious, it made him feel more secure. To each his own.

"I dunno, dozen or so. Nothin' I couldna handle. Back in muh day I'd a run in there a creamin' them arses like a meat grinder ta jelly." He responded proudly to the rhetorical question of how many guards there were.

He then began to show off his martial arts prowess by demonstrating several hooks, elbows, blocks and grapples to the air. His form was remarkably skilled, if unorthodoxed, and looked like it put his strength to good use. He completely forgot his previous anxiety towards leaving and didn't notice Illilli's suggestion. "A little o this... some moves... hah... In the gut..."

He stopped when Joy drove the sword right into the wall. Secretly he was glad for any suggestion other than direct confrontation with the guards, which would result in pain and effort.

"That works too. Keep at that, I gotta do somethin'."

He motioned to Joy with a wave of his hand toward the wall, indicating some confidence that the man could do it himself. It was as though he was so confident in the outcome of whatever actions were taken that it went into the realm of not really caring.

For Chrishton fate was already written, and indeed he didn't care much. It was a game and he was on Inari's team. The fox god would never abandon him and all obstacles were just that - obstacles that he could overcome without a doubt. Nothing worried him in the slightest when it came to his personal safety. He could always escape, use his powers, ditch the others and get out of there before anyone had time to properly react. He only stayed with them to play along and because he knew they had a purpose that would come in useful later. That and he liked them, and he wanted to help a bit before ditching them.

He walked over to the wall where the mage had been standing and ripped a paper notice down from it. It had some policies about magic and punishments that he didn't bother reading printed on it. With the paper in his hands he paced back over toward Joy, folding, ripping once to get a square, and then folding in some more complicated patterns.

Dorcas took her attention off Joy's antics as Chrishton started bullying the empty air around with his display. She tipped her head and thrust her hip to the side with her arms crossed under her overdeveloped bosom. It was an extremely adolescent gesture of disdain and impatience.

"And how long ago exactly was this 'day' of yours . . .?" she said to Chris.

The noise of Joy's rapier slipping against weak masonry caught her attention, and she looked at him once again. She shifted her bulk from one foot to the other, jutting her hip to the opposite side. She shifted back quickly when this motion caused her to wince.

"Battering . . . battering ram?" she said with a small laugh. She sauntered over to Chris as he fiddled with a piece of paper and touched his arm. "Well, why not the moron? While he's distracted playing with paper." She glanced over to Illilli and raised her eyebrows. She had a feeling that woman wouldn't see the humor in the suggestion, while perhaps the weirdo with the rapier would. Or else he'd take her seriously.

"Come on then, we can make a good square contact with the stone and the flat top of his thick head, if we heft 'im the right way." She licked her lips and looked delibreately away from Chris, smirking a little bit at the wall. She didn't really have any good ideas, and a bit of humor was always the way out of having to take any sort of stand.

"Whatcha making?" Illilli addressed to Chris as she stepped over to where Joy had skewered the wall.

She studied the wall, looking at the large cracks and areas where the mortar was rather crumbly. It still looked quite solid enough to cause alot of pain should she slam her shoulder into it.

Illilli gently placed her dagger against the mortar and scraped lightly at it.

"Hmm... That would make way too much noise and take far too long... Oh well here goes."

Illilli found the largest crack in the wall she could and backed up far as far as she could, which was a few paces at best. Springing to the wall, she made a fairly solid whomping sound as she hit her left shoulder against the wall and slid down.

"Uff... Ow." she moaned softly.

"This is gonna be one hell of a bruise if I live to see tomorrow." She massaged her sore shoulder and and inspected the crack in the wall to see if she had any effect at all.

Locked
