Vector Ash-down

*New to roleplaying so go easy on any errors found*

Name: Vector Ash-down
Race: Half Elf
Age:19

Height: 5' 10"

Weight: 170 lbs.

Physical description: Just beginning his assent into manhood Vectors muscle tone is built from his years of "squiring" his mercenary father, but not overly bulky. With the antiquate muscles and lean figure Vector is nimble for his weight.

His skin is complexion is a soft tan from days under the sun training with his father (much he did not retain). From the mix of whatever his father copulated with on his "adventures" his eyes are a deep brown and his ears have elven characteristics but with rounded edges.
Vector has the look of a hardened veteran despite his limited experience, he views the world as a generally good place but every place has its flaws. So he tries to live the best he can with the hand he was dealt.

From the lack of any professional barber (usually his father or a family friend) his hair is barley evenly cut and Vector prefers to sweep his black hair back with water before each day’s activity. His facial "hair" is only a remnence of a goatee Vector desperately wants.

Vectors wardrobe is extremely limited, consisting of anything he can buy of local merchants or scrounge off his father’s bandit kills.

Profession:
Mercenary-
Vector is the son of Kain Ash-down, a mercenary and as such is a soon to be mercenary as well. Although Vector doesn’t get any of his father’s pay only a few coins for carrying his equipment, Vector has no buying power. But since his 19th birthday has just passed Vector is free to go and peruse his own career of a soldier for hire, away from his father’s controlling behavior.

Equipment:
Cheap leather/ chainmail armor:
This armor Vector wears is probably only sturdy enough to withstand a few swipes of a sword and a nick of a mace. But it is scavenged material so it is high caliber from the normal junk the traders try to pass off as "high-class."

Weapon:
The weapon Vector carries was a birthday gift from his father on his 17th birthday. It is a sturdy well-made naginata (spear with a katana instead of a spear head) standing roughly a foot taller than Vector.

Strengths:
Training from a mercenary:
His father, although not the luvy-dubby type, always made sure Vector could use his naginata to defend himself when the need arose. On few occasions Vector has only fought and killed two men. One was part of a bandit raiding party set on revenge for the slaughter of their Eastern brotheren, who Vector's father and his band of mercenaries killed. When the raid began a bandit burst into the makeshift stable his group made for horses and not knowing Vector was armed, made the mistake of letting a 16 year old child be at his back. Vector awkwardly impaled him on the naginata, much to Vectors horror he was dead. Even though Vector saw death most of his life, seeing a man killed is very different from doing the killing. After the deed was done Vector dropped his naginata and slumped down on the wall and was lost in thought. He thought about if the bandit had a family, would he be missed, was he good or evil, should he have killed him or let himself be killed, all those thoughts were swirling in his head. Hours later his father came in and sat down next to him, comforting him and saying the man was evil and it was better him than you, and that the world was a better place without him. With that Vector lightened up and accepted that as truth feeling a lot better about extinguishing the man’s life. The other was a bandit, Vector accompanied his father along with four of his men right into a bandit ambush. Though most of the scuffle was focused on the hardened mercenaries one bandit seized the opportunity to pick on 18 year old Vector. Vector and the bandit danced around in a circle swiping at one another until the bandit made a grave mistake. He took a heavy vertical swing at Vector and missed, sending him unevenly to the ground were Vector finished him with a swipe a crossed his neck. This kill was much less emotional, even though he still felt bad about the man’s death at his hands Vector adopted his father’s mantra “better him than me."

Courage and heart:
Through his life he has been asked to daily back breaking work, but all of it was not in vein. Vector learned not to give in when he was down and to show courage in the face of adversity.

Basic spell knowledge:
Since Vector was mixed with, to the best of his knowledge an Elf, he was able to pick up a basic force field and fire spell on his travels to nearby towns and villages. The first spell, a force field is able to block a few bolts from a weak element and physical attacks. The next is a basic fire spell which sends a four foot long stream of scorching fire from his palm for around 3-5 seconds.

Weakness:
Not battle hardened:
Vector has to date only been on five missions with is father, out of the five only one ended with a battle for Vector to test his training. With the lack of any real enemies to fight he is forced to look upon a wooden training dummy as his greatest adversary.

No salary until he accepts his first contract:
Since his income is not fixed, Vector is forced to take jobs as a means to eat. If that job isn't completed his belly isn't filled.

Knows limited magic:
When Vector learned his spells he relied on handouts from village wizards or cheap lessons from street performers to craft his spells.

Doesn’t know love of a mother:

Not knowing his mother has left Vector heartbroken. Though he hides it well he secretly can’t stand the idea.

History:

Vector is the only son of Kain Ash-down and probably some elven girl from his father’s travels as a soldier for the Reaver mercenary band. Vector often thinks of his mother, what she looked like, who she was. But his father refuses to talk about anything to do with his mother and almost always storms of in a rage when asked about her.

Vector grew up carrying his father’s equipment around camp and caring for livestock and the such never seeing his mother but always wondering who she was, Vector through life was never far away from death. After all he saw it on a daily basis, ranging from his father’s friends dental necklace(tooth necklace) "trophies" to witnessing his father decapitate a wounded marauder. Around the camp Vector has always played well with the other mercenary children, even though there were few in number. He was always very social as a child and would always laugh and tell stories at the camp fire at night. But the thing that got him down the most is when his friends were call home by their mothers for supper when he came home to only a father. This for Vector was the most traumatizing because the other children looked so happy with their family as a whole. So along his lifetime he progressively became cold to the idea of a mother, even though he did long to meet his.

For 14 years that was the only thing that he knew was play. Until after he started training with his naginata and accompanied his father on various missions but always staying relatively out of harm’s way. But as accustomed by his father, since he was now 19 he must leave the safety of his father’s Reaver mercenary band and make his own living as a soldier of fortune. His father did this because that was done to him by his father before him, so it is a long standing tradition along the Ash-down clan.
