Blind Dates: Trick and Jormunder

Post by Jormunder » Thu Feb 06, 2014 4:00 am

This thread is dedicated to trashy romance novels everywhere. You were warned.

Jory scowled and glanced around the restaurant. He was uncomfortable, very uncomfortable, and that made him edgy. Just being inside the city limits put his teeth on edge.

How had Engar talked him into this? And who was this Trick person anyhow?

Snow tigers handled this much better. Women had cycles. Mating occured. Ways were parted. The end.

A muscle jumped in Jory's jaw. He'd give her a few more... seconds. Then, he was leaving. One... Two... Three.

There. He'd waited.

Jory pushed back from the table, his chair scraping loudly across the floor.

Trick sauntered into the restaurant and paused, scanning the patrons there with her hip swayed out to the side. A strange assortment here, though she'd expect little less from a shifter city. She'd already received a pile of nasty looks from people in the street, but she was being abnormally careful to follow the rules and also abnormally reserved. She didn't want to get eaten just because some fool of a nobleman wanted something fancy for his wife for her birthday (the amber-set crown she had been sent to pick up was truly lovely, though - not that she was jealous in the least) and Trick needed the money.

She'd met up with the whale shifter (how did that even happen, anyway?) and picked up the crown in return for an obscene amount of money. The whale shifter was sophisticated in a way that Trick hadn't expected from a city full of shifters, and they'd gotten to chatting just a little. Trick mentioned she'd be in the city for the next few days waiting for the merchant caravan she came north with to depart, and did Engar have any suggestions of how she could spend her time?

For some reason, the crazy whale shifter had decided that Trick should meet one of his friends. So here she was, a day later, meeting someone called Jormunder Scarface, a pretentious name if there ever was one. A man stood up as she scanned the room, a massive scar across his face marking him as her target... err, date. He was certainly attractive, of that there was no doubt. But he looked rather angry and grumbly, and Trick made a face. How rude, to just walk out. She wasn't even late.

Well, there was nothing for it. She strolled up to him and gave him her brightest smile. "Jormunder? I'm Trick. It's a pleasure to meet you, I'm sure." She affected a slightly concerned expression for a few seconds. "You weren't leaving, I hope?"

Jory's head turned sharply. His gaze seemed predatory for a moment, pupils dilating slightly before returning to a more appropriate size for the lighting in the room. His irises were blue, but nearly platinum, ringed in a dark grey or black. Black hair offset the white-blue in a striking way.

Jory stared at Trick in that still way that cats stare intently at things. His body leaned toward her slightly and he inhaled the scent of her. She was definitely human. A sound seemed to rumble out from his chest, incongruous with the very human form he wore.

"I don't like the City. Let's go."

With that, Jory reached for Trick's hand and moved toward the door. His movement was lithe and graceful and his steps soft, even with boots on the wooden floor. His posture was tense, though. Engar said she was important for business and Jory owed loyalty to Engar. Engar did business with him even though he was an Outsider. Being an outsider, accompanied by a human, was a recipe for disaster in a city full of shifters. Jory could imagine someone taking umbrage with him just because of his status. Throw in a human, and well, shifters were known to be a contentious bunch.

All Jory wanted was to get out of the city and back into the woods. If he had to take a human woman with him, then fine. He didn't want to get into a fight and have wounds to lick. Not that Jory couldn't fight, just that he didn't want to be responsible for what happened to the little human woman he'd been coerced into escorting. Here's to hoping the woman would actually go with him instead of balking like a fool.

Well now, this was a handsome devil! Seems that crazy whale actually knew something about what ladies wanted out of life... or at least had taken a good enough read on Trick to know what she would find fun. To be sure, there was something distinctly feral hanging around him, something a little too animalistic for complete comfort, but Trick loved nothing more than a little danger in her life. It led to the best of times.

She blinked in delighted surprise as he grabbed her wrist and pulled her from the restaurant. "So soon on the first date?" She muttered to herself, raising an eyebrow at the brusqueness of the whole thing. Not that she was complaining, of course. She liked a little roughness, though it would have been considerate of him to ask first, to be sure she was into that sort of thing. Of course, this wrist-grabbing was a little much... as he hauled her through the streets she did a twist of her wrist that made her hand slid into his. Hand-holding was much better.

They attracted a few looks as they practically bolted from the city, though Trick ignored them will all the haughtiness she could muster. Really, it was impolite to stare. Not that she didn't find herself gawking slightly at a man changing shape in the middle of the street, from a mild-looking (albeit naked, and rather impressively endowed) twenty-something into a massive bear. The thought of the horror in her mother's eyes had the old woman been there made Trick giggle.

Once they exited the city Trick dug her heels in and grabbed a tree to stop her captor's headlong rush. "My mamma taught me never to go nowhere with strangers, and all I've gotten to know about you is that you're not a fan of crowds and have something against perfectly respectable restaurants. At least tell me where we're going before you muss my pretty hair any further." Trick tossed said hair lightly - the roughly cut and slightly oily from the lack of a good wash for the last few days locks made the move much less dramatic than she no doubt was aiming for.

Trick's comment gained her another rumble of noise, but not much else. Jory's gaze jumped around, his senses on a high alert. When the bear shifter turned, Jory tensed further. His grip on Trick's wrist tightened, but she twisted her arm until they were holding hands. What an odd feeling... that was filed away for later. Now, Jory was still full tilt intent on getting them outside of the City and as far away from it as he could get. Had he been partially shifted or in full shift, one of his ears would have swiveled backwards when Trick giggled. Obviously, she did not realize how much danger she was in.

Once they were at the edge of the woods and outside the City proper, the tightness in his chest released, but only a little. They were still too close for his comfort and that was when the small, human woman decided to balk. Her hand slipped from his as she grabbed onto a tree.

The turn on his heel was quick and his stance was all grace. Shadows hooded his gaze, but his eyes still seemed to gleam in the light - gaze intense. Jory wanted to roar out his frustration, to shift back into his natural form and run the rest of the way to the denser woods. He didn't, though. He'd been instructed to entertain Engar's guest. A growl escaped him, followed by a huff of breath.

"Shifters are contentious and you are a human in a city full of them. I am not clan-bound, therefore, viewed as an Outsider. The combination of me in the City is already grounds for a challenge, with you in the mix - it's volatile. Because you are important, I did not want you harmed." Jory took soft steps toward Trick. He leaned close and scented her in various spots around her neck and face.

"Your humanity is obvious. And, despite the expression on your face and the tone of your voice, your body says many things. " So, so many things... the look in his eyes changed for the span of a second. Perhaps humans and tigers weren't all that different.

Jory stepped back, suddenly, clearing the scent of her from his nose with a rush of breath.

"We are going to my house. The food there is just as good, if not better than any in a City restaurant. Engar knows where I live and how much I dislike the crowds in the City. He knows, too, that I would take you home instead of stay there." The disdain and dislike in his voice was very obvious, especially considering the little growl at the end. Jory had turned back toward his original direction.

"Besides, you need a bath. You can do that at my home, too."

Turning his body slightly, he held out his hand to Trick, offering it to her this time instead of just snatching her hand in his.

"Come, let me show you."

He was so growly! If he wasn't as handsome as he was it would be considered incredibly unappealing, but as he was he was working the whole "mysterious" thing to perfection. It was working for him so well he should give it a salary and then give it a raise, because daaaaamn. She ran her eyes appreciatively up and down his body once more and barely restrained herself from letting out some kind of completely unattractive war whoop. Historically, cat-calling had worked out sometimes with the incredibly attractive ones, but she felt it would be bad form to cat-call a... well, a cat.

Did he do it kitty style? Was kitty style even a thing?

Him telling her she was important almost sent her into a gloating frenzy, but then he started sniffing her and Trick stilled. Was that a Zhaltevite greeting? When his eyes were gleaming in the light like that it was hard to forget he was half animal, and she almost let out an elated laugh at the thought of what her mother would say for her going on a date with a shifter. Not that her mother was incredibly anti-magic, she just considered race mixing bad, especially with shifters. What if Trick had kittens, for Changers' sake!

"Back to the house already? I am a lucky girl," Trick practically purred, leaning in and deciding against sniffing him in return. It would probably just be weird. Before she could carry her flirtation any further, he mentioned a bath and Trick reared back. "Oy, slow down there buddy. Don't you know a gentleman never tells a lady she's stinky?"

She was stinky though, Trick wouldn't deny that. Still, it was bad form to insult a lady. Then again, Trick wasn't really a lady - she just pretended like it when it suited her. When he offered his hand, her mock outrage and insult were forgotten. More hand-holding with the attractive not-human? Absolutely! She grabbed his hand and smiled. "Lead on." Being mock-angry was tiring, especially when there were fun things in the offering instead.

ooc: I auto'd. So sue me. :P

"Oy, slow down there buddy. Don't you know a gentleman never tells a lady she's stinky?"

"Oh, they don't?" The look on his face might have been a little amused. Maybe, just maybe. His tone was certainly droll. Jory waited, hand outstretched. His patience was rewarded when the woman smiled perkily and took his hand. It really was an odd feeling, this holding hands thing, but not unpleasant.

Jory took a circuitous route to his house, just in case someone was following them. Halfway on the route home, they crossed the river shoals. Jory's steps were sure on the rocks.

"Be careful here, this one wobbles if you step on it in the wrong spot." As the rock moved under Trick's feet, Jory's reflexes kicked in. He jerked her toward him by her hand and and caught her up close against him with his other arm. He was solid muscle and smelled clean, almost like the woods they were in. As for Jory, despite her petite size, Trick was still very much a woman. Jory looked down at her and inhaled the scent of her again. Heat flickered in his gaze. He cleared his throat and put her away from him onto the solid ground of the river bank.

"We're halfway there, now."

Jory slipped past Trick, caught up her hand, and led her further into the woods. Three-quarters of the way there, Jory stopped suddenly and turned to Trick with his finger to her lips. He tilted his head to the right and carefully lowered a branch, giving Trick a look into an idyllic woodland view. Sunlight dappled a small clearing. A pheasant and her chicks were crossing through the clearing, weaving in a side to side pattern before disappearing in the underbrush. Jory was watching with a small smile on his face, completely unguarded for the moment.

"No they do not," she fussed in return, though her smile made it clear she was joking. Trick has simply never been able to resist getting the last word in, and would chatter on until the other person gave up. Winning was the only option in everything she did.

She slipped on the rocks and almost before she had realized it had happened, the beautifully muscular man swept her up into his arms. For a few brief seconds she was able to admire his muscles at close proximity, being pressed up against his chest and all like a damsel in distress. Normally she was the one who put people in distress, but it was nice to be treated like a lady, even if it did make her want to laugh out loud. Oooh, how Remmeke's stupid brat of a sister would squeal in jealousy if she saw Trick in the arms of this handsome stranger!

He was so gallant, she mused as he set her back on her feet and they continued along. Trick had never really had cause to apply that word to anyone in her life before, with the possible exception of Mr. Tathmiel, Remmeke's father. He had been a nice man, at least to Trick. Though he had always been distant, he had opened the door for her once when she had her hands full of plates from dinner and really, that had just been unexpected. A nice unexpected though.

Jormunder was like that, but way more attractive and also not ancient.

They stopped abruptly, looking on a beautiful clearing. Trick might not have been much of an outdoorsy girl, but it was undeniable that the lands surrounding Zhaltev were much more idyllic than those surrounding Marn. There was something wild about them, though she knew that shifters prowled these woulds on a daily basis. Maybe it was something about them being animals half the time that made them fit into the land better. Certainly her tiger companion moved through the forest like he belonged in it - Trick knew and also didn't really care that she was probably making an almighty mess of the places she walked.

The birds were lovely, though Trick thought the mother at least might have been more lovely plucked, roasted, and dressed with lemon and thyme on a dinner platter. She looked sidelong at her guide and instantly felt a twinge of guilt at thinking such things - he was so enraptured with the scene, though a part of her brain nagged at her that he must eat meat and probably ate pheasant on a regular basis, so there was no need to feel guilty. And she was still hungry, anyway. But the man did look very much at peace - the furrow in his brow that had been present since she had met him had melted, and Trick felt her heart melt a little in response. "They're lovely," she whispered, smiling at him with only a minimal amount of her usual sass, trying to be as genuine as he seemed.

The sunlight filtered through the branch he'd pulled carefully down and out of the way and played patterns across Trick's face. For a moment, when she smiled Trick's cheekbone was gilded in a slim, golden aura. He was looking at her again, with the same look he'd worn when he'd held her up against him. They were still holding hands. He smiled back at her. His teeth were even, straight, and white. Long dimples framed his smile.

"You're beautiful."

His gaze flickered to her lips. He inhaled a breath. He blinked and the guarded, fettered look reappeared.

Turning, he tugged lightly on her hand. "Almost there."

The remainder of the trip seemed to have no path, though Jory moved unerringly through trees that had grown closer together. The sound of water preceded the view a rocky outcropping. As they moved around the outcropping, the source of the water became evident: a waterfall, the pool into which it fell, and the stream that flowed out of it.

A bridge had been built across the stream, wide enough for a cart to use. On the other side of the stream was Jory's house, a small garden area, and the other buildings he'd built. A deer hide was stretched across a tanning rack.

He was just so damn handsome! Trick felt her heart do a weird swooping motion in her chest and she caught her breath when he looked at her. Granted, he quickly looked away and the shields came up again, though even with his mysterious vibe, he was lovely. But with the walls down and the sunlight on his face, and a look of absolute peace gracing his features, he was positively glorious. He hardly looked like an animal then.

He led Trick onwards, moving through thick forest like he was born to it. Of course, he probably was. She ducked a glance at the ground and saw a few large paw prints. They looked like house cat paws, or at least they would if house cats had feet the size of dinner plates. Not just salad plates - dinner plates. Trick knew the difference from serving Remmeke's stupid family, but she also didn't really know why she was thinking about dinner plates when there was a completely smoldering shifter holding her hand and leading her through the forest like a princess.

His home, once they got there, did not look like the lair of a shifter. It was quaint - that was probably a good word for it. Nothing like the manors of Marn but she'd never really liked those anyway. This blended in with the forest, and the waterfall and pool were absolutely gorgeous.

"Bath time?" Trick asked Jormunder with a raised eyebrow. He still hadn't let go of her hand and so she pressed her advantage, standing on tiptoe to press a kiss to his cheek before slipping away from him and towards the pool, stripping her shirt off casually as she went.

The kiss to his cheek was a surprise. Enough so that when she pulled away, he let her. Then, she began to remove her clothes. Jory's fingers lifted to his cheek and his brows rose.

Perhaps humans were more like tigers after all. A grin slowly lit on his face.

Jory decided to allow her a moment and moved to the cabin to grab a few bathing items. He used only items he'd made himself. He wondered if she'd think them too rustic. If she'd waited, he could have given her a hot bath, certainly warmer than the one she intended. Jory wondered about that, too. He thought humans preferred more comfortable things, but then again, it was a warm day and they could dry on the heated rocks. Jory paused for a moment before taking up a blanket. From what he'd seen of her skin, the rock might just be a little too warm for her.

When he returned he walked up to stand just behind her.

"Change your mind?" A teasing purr of voice.

The water in the pool was clear and you could see down to the sandy bottom below. A shelf of rocks led from the waterfall into the pool, like natural steps. Jory had picked the spot for that reason. He liked padding about in the water on hot days and lounging on the rocks above. In the winter, the fall of water stayed unfrozen, ensuring he had fresh, moving water. He preferred that, too. There was something about water that didn't move that put him off it.

Trick darted a look over her shoulder and pouted slightly as Jormunder walked away. That's not what taking off her shirt was supposed to do! It was supposed to make men of all sorts, shifters and otherwise, weak at the knees. Maybe shifters had some kind of resistance. Maybe she didn't smell enough like a lady tiger for his interest. Then again, he had seemed pretty interested...

Shrugging, Trick continued her saunter towards the pool. It did look inviting. While hot water would have been nice too, a brisk, bracing swim was always one of the best thing after days without being clean.

She perched on the edge of the pool, slipping off her pants and laying her belt down on top of them, silently bemoaning once more the lack of her weapons. It was very bad form to bring weapons into Zhaltev so she had been sure to leave them on the carts she'd come north with, and had paid the merchant way too much to look after them while she was away from the caravan. She wasn't the best at hand to hand combat, and the lack of metal had been almost disconcerting in the city... it had felt unsafe. Trick hadn't felt unsafe in years.

She smothered a yelp when he crept up behind her. He was so silent! "Never," she shot back, removing her underwear and breastband, turning slightly to wink at him before slipping into the pool. "Come on then," she beckoned. "Water's lovely."

Jory's gaze raked over her naked body with heat and deliberation. A smirk appeared accompanied by a quirked eyebrow.
"That's not the only thing." She was as open as he was closed. Her openness made things easier for him.

Keeping his gaze on her for a few moment, Jory moved toward the waterfall. He placed the bowl of items on a nearby table. This obviously wasn't his first time bathing there. He started with his shirt, pulling it up and over his head. Under the shirt lay strong, broad shoulders and well-defined musculature. Each muscle seemed to be etched in his skin, like some ancient statue. His chest had hair, but not an excessive amount. Hair lay around his belly button as well. Below his belly button, the hint of a dark trail of hair led down into the low waist of his pants. A scar similar to the one on his face marred the perfection of his skin. It dragged down across his heart.

Jory pulled on the tie of his pants and loosened it. He cast a glance in Trick's direction from the corner of his eye to see if she watched. He slid the pants down slowly over his hips until his manhood was free. He wasn't fully hard, but he was at least partially aroused, hanging heavily in view. With ease and the grace of a dancer he stepped from the pants legs and draped the pants over his shirt. His buttocks were round and smooth.

Jory stepped toward the waterfall, buttocks tight, the muscles flexing with natural use there and in his thighs. Dark hair covered his legs. Once in the water, he lifted his face into the spray and ran his hands through his hair, his back to her. Water flowed down his back in rivulets, following the line of his back bone and the line between his buttocks. Water dripped from his shoulder blades, bunched and rounded biceps, and elbows.

Then, Jory turned and flashed a wide, white smile at her. The water bounced off his shoulders and outlined the ripples on his chest and abdomen. His bollocks had tightened in the cold of the water, but not his cock. That still remained semi-erect, the glans almost pushing out from the foreskin, even as a line of cold spring water poured down it. Jory held out a hand to her.

"Come on, I'll even wash your hair for you." He winked at her. If she was open, then he would try to be open, too.

"Ooh, a flirt!" She grinned, splashing a little of the water at him playfully. She calmed slightly (well, at least she quit throwing water) when he removed his clothes, raking her eyes down his body. Typically she was into elves and half elves, not so much the muscly type, but this one... he looked good enough to eat. Maybe she would.

His scars were interesting. They seemed symbolic - she knew shifters were quick healers and regular scars didn't stick. Maybe it was something to do with him being unwelcome in the city. Well, whatever. He was perfectly welcome here. She didn't take her eyes off of him while he slowly undressed, treading water gently while she watched. Yes. Yes, she could get used the the muscles here. And the... oh. Well, that was nice too.

Annoyingly, Trick felt a light blush come across her cheeks and ducked her head quickly under the water to banish it. Honestly, she'd seen men naked before. Lots of men. But there was something about this one that was different. He practically screamed primality, and it caused a warm heat to spread through her stomach, low and deep.

He walked into the waterfall and Trick got to admire his shoulders for a few seconds. She'd never go back to elves, the scrawny little bastards. Was this was she had been missing out on? Damn. He spoke and she took a few moments to register it after he'd turned back to her. Once she did (and had caught a little breath back), she smiled, cat-like, and sidled closer to the falls, breasts rising out of the water as she swam. "You can wash me all over, tiger."

Jory eyed her as if she were the most delectable thing ever. He looked at her face first, but his eyes dropped to her breasts. The muscles in his groin tightened and his cock hardened a little more. Jory’s hand slipped down and moved over the shaft of his cock. He was thick where it counted and when he let go, it jutted out straight, but it was obvious he still had a little more room to grow.

Looking back to her face, Jory opened his arms and held out his hands to her. His hands opened and closed in that gesture that said, ‘come here, come here’, as he waited. His eyes had narrowed a little, darkening in lust.

He replied with a slow grin. "I plan to do that and more."

Jory waited, arms open.
