Family Ties

Post by Morveya Aris » Tue Oct 30, 2012 12:30 am

Availability: Generally, Family Ties will have a roster of not more than four characters. (Which we have presently.)

However, we are very open to passing encounters with most characters who happen to be local. Please provide a headsup first, and some statement of intent, if you are interested in one of those.

Posting Speed: Participants should be comfortable with posting no less than once every three days.

Characters Involved: Morveya Aris, Alexandros Dragesus, Kitan Valyra, Clarrise Donne

Location: Beginning in Shim, then The Woods, and then Marn, where the bulk of it will take place.

Previous -

http://www.tharshaddin.com/rp/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=2979 (The Woods)

Currently -

http://www.tharshaddin.com/rp/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=3033 (Marn Central District)

Summary: Receiving a vague letter from a relative she has never met, Morveya decides to leave Shim and investigate this invitation. Naturally, things are never simple where family is concerned. Particularly a family of schemers. One in particular has a plan for her. As well as an agenda that doesn't entirely fit with the staunch puradynism they profess to practice. Drawn into this web are Alexandros and Kitan, both of whom have familial complications and entanglements of their own. Meanwhile Clarrise is contracted as insurance, by Morveya's relative. The stage is set for mystery, magic, murder, and the macabre in Marn. ;)

A general theme of this story, as the title conveys, are complications and sticky situations pertaining to family. This is a good place to elaborate on those, if your character has such. Though not at all necessary to take part.

Other Notes: Hope to bump into many of you! We are open to cross plots, if anyone wants to discuss such.

Glad to jump in when you two reach the city! Til then I'll just enjoy the great writing.

Your call on that! If you want to introduce your character before, and want some help with npcs, just let me know. I am sure there are players in the game who would oblige you too.

If you did want to, I think you could just open a "Family Ties" thread in Marn, and then I'll hop in once I'm there. Or call it something else. Not sure which would be appropriate, per the rules.

If not -- Kitan and I have already discussed -- we're going to get to Marn in a prompt fashion. Though there may be a short situational encounter along the way.

Actually, you mentioned that Uncle Samweill might assign one of his nephews to escort the pair to Marn. Maybe Alex could play one of them until we reach Marn?

I'm just tossing the ideas out right now. Playing as the nephew would probably wind up being a little generic without a solid backstory and/or personality, but if you wanted something to do on the way there, it is an easy fix. It would go great if you come up with a few defining character traits for him, probably ones that relate to Morveya, (either resentment or loyalty; maybe puradynism?) seeing as they wouldn't be likely to come up otherwise.

Alex, we should talk about it in chat next time we're both there. :)

I'm all for it, if he wants to.

But, it would mean conceiving another persona, and then chucking them after we reach Marn, or ending up playing both...

Actually, what we eventually came up with in chat was that he, as Alexandros, would show up at Drifel's house, trying unsucessfully to ask the (very drunk) dwarf about the disappearances that have been happening around the road (probably because of Syrathan and Vanyusha from the "Chaos and Control" thread) He'd have already known where Drifel lives because they frequent the same alehouses.

Then he'd simply offer to escort the two back to Marn when he realizes Drifel doesn't know anything about/isn't going to be able to answer questions anytime soon. What do you think?

Right - what Kitan has said here is how I'd like to start out, I think. It gives them all a good reason to meet eachother and travel closely for a bit.

I might open up a thread in "The Woods" for this purpose. Unless it makes sense to you both to just keep everything in the prologue up until Marn.

Awesome start Alex. :D

Oh, and just to clarify how I'm going to post when Drifel becomes an important part; unless Alex gets to the shack considerably before Kit and Morveya do, I'll just be using Drifel in Kitan's posts rather than posting as Drifel.
Just wanted to make sure that didn't catch anyone off guard, or if they don't like that.

Also, should I assume Morveya has brought along all of her possessions from her character sheet along the journey? The quarterstaff in particular interests me, because it gives Kitan an oppritunity to see it and think "mage staff omg!" albeit incorrectly, thereby opening the way to a brief conversation about magic. Just in case I need to reveal his illusions or we're at a dull point somewhere along the line.

One last thing- just to put the option on the table, if I don't specifically mention smelling, touching or hearing something, you're free to decide anything Kitan sees is a delusion, especially if he casts an illusion of some kind. I think it would be fun to be as surprised as Kitan himself is. :)

Uh huh, excellent intro Alex -- but of course, I referred you to this site exactly because I know how good you are! ;) Glad we got you in earlier than Marn. Great stage-setting for what is to come.

Kitan - great work from you as well. I can understand why you are a popular partner on this site.

Yes...everything on Morveya's sheet is coming along. Including her intricately carved quarter staff -- which is only that. :) No magic.

Her medallion might draw attention to -- if he happens to see it. Usually under her garments.

But, a discourse on the topic of the occult would be fun. Morveya actually enjoys that, if she is relatively certain she won't get in trouble by it.

We'll need to skirt the topic once Alex is present though -- especially if any puradyne views or leanings are expressed. Of course, danger might well compel one or both to reveal what they do.

It might occur to Kitan to wonder, if Morveya is concerned about her safety, why
she's now going to meet a bunch of 'family' she's never met. She does have precautions and a plan as regards that -- which he'll discover if he asks. If it sounded like she was contradicting herself there.

As a players, I am all for meeting papa! But Morveya is just doing the common sense worrying - given that we are going to some cabin out in the woods she's not visited before.

I mean, it could be like the Thar Shaddin equivalent of the Bates Motel:

"Hello Father...we have a guest!" ~_^

EDIT: I think we should this to 'The Woods', once we are on the road, yes?

I do want another post in the village, wherein Morveya says goodbye to Samwiell and perhaps a few others.

I'm popular? Since when? I've only been here for two months, but thanks anyways! :D

Well shoot, I wish I had seen this before I posted. We came up with similar concepts, at least. The main difference is that Kitan's a bit to childish to immediately empathize with much that isn't directly related to him. I instead focused on his wondering why she doesn't trust him/his father rather than her mistrust of her own family. I intentially blew it out of proportion though, because he is crazy optimistic, and her caution seems perhaps to much to his overeager mind.

Of course, he'll have plenty of time to think about their conversation more deeply while he's waiting for Morveya to say her goodbyes, so I might spring some of those questions on you once we start off down the road.

As far as the topic location goes, it doesn't matter much. We could either move this to the woods, or keep going until Marn. There is little in the way of outside obligation either way; it's all our preferences. It really depends on how much time we think we'll spend there. Personally, I'm in favor of just continuing the thread through the Shim page until we get to Marn, for simplicity's sake, but I'd be just as happy starting the next "chapter" in the woods as well. :)

Somebody recommended you in some thread somewhere (under your other character)-- I'd have to go back and look!

I'm fine with staying in the thread we've started. It isn't very long, anyway. I suppose it would be sort of a "fragment", if we moved off and started another for the woods.

I am gonna try to pick up the post rate a bit, like I promised! If you want to move it to chat like we talked about, for joint posting, I'm all for it. I doubt Alexandros would object.

Huh. I wasn't aware I had made such a good impression.

A joint post would be great, since it would make a magic-oriented conversation easy and get us to Drifel's house in a timely manner. Should I assume Morveya will finish her goodbyes first? Though I could always edit my last message so Kitan walks back to the house with Morveya if needed, or he could get bored and come back in the middle of their goodbye. :D

I'm in chat at any point after 3:00pm (because of school) in my time zone, -8 Pacific Time, so I think you're two hours ahead of me? Hrm, I think you mentioned you're not often online past 5pm, so if we are really set on this and the time doesn't work for you we could stall the post until saterday? Not really the best solution there... keep me informed if you guys think of anything good. :)

Oh, and so everyone knows, I will be completely unavailable on Monday. It's looking like a rough three-day weekend in general for me, except for saterday, so please try to be a little patient if I mess up! X.x

EDIT: Okay, great post. :D I think Kitan is going to refuse a horse just out of pride now though. XD Anyways, I'll get to chat immediately after my classes thursday and friday, so just show up sometime if you want to do the joint post or talk about schedualing it. Or right now, since we're both online.

Out of time - now! But, yes - you are right on the time zone etc. Will do what I can to help make it work.

Let's see what we can manage tomorrow & friday -- if minimal or not at all, please feel free to just keep posting in the main thread. Maybe that will be our best option - but let's see if the other will work.

I will get something in today -- even if Kitan isn't around, and I believe he won't be.

EDIT: I've noted that I really tend to use too many commas. It's especially clear after doing that chat-post where I didn't edit myself at all.

Here. I'll get it all out of my system now: ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Okay. I believe I'm good.

Second thoughts. With Kitan out front of me, there's really not much for me to post, just yet. He should have the first reaction.
