Re: The Adventures of Bird Blade and Raven Man

Baz can't pick up anything more than what Quenta sends him; it's purely telepathy, not empathy. Baz has no clue what the other person is feeling.

Even if Baz could read nightmares, it still wouldn't apply: Quenta's dreams have been overwritten with raven-themed nightmares because he touched the ...

Re: The Adventures of Bird Blade and Raven Man

We should probably determine: did Quenta ever tell the Basilard more about Kaledin manor and Belatucadrus? It probably won't come up, but I could see the circumstance arising where the basilard would divulge the information to the rebellion to prove its use.

Re: The Adventures of Bird Blade and Raven Man

I lack any other means of communication. The basilard explained in response to Miklos’ concerns. It is one of the many limits of my form.

Quenta flew up to the roost and became enthralled by the glimmering light. The basilard was used to this and let the raven admire its form. When Quenta snapped ...

Re: At the Ruins of Madness

The basilard had grown weary of waiting. Under ordinary circumstances, it was a patient creature. Here in Tenga it held no such quality. When the sun reached its highest point in the sky the basilard resolved to speak. Before it could do so, the tribeswoman abruptly changed direction and picked it ...

Re: At the Ruins of Madness

The basilard gave aid to her scrounging as best it could, but it was no herbalist. What little knowledge of plants it had was mostly central to the area of northeastern Tian Xia. In the end, it was only able to warn her away from one toxic plant; even then, it was uncertain. Magic had clearly had an ...

Re: The Adventures of Bird Blade and Raven Man

The basilard waited with a patience forged atop the anvil of millennia. They would arrive within minutes. Though willing to wait, its excitement was plainly visible in the luminescent glow it emitted, several times brighter than it had been in the last several months. Only the sound of footsteps ...

Re: At the Ruins of Madness

She seemed to have accepted its answer, leaving the basilard content to wait. The tribeswoman poked around the debris in a contemplative trance as the basilard watched, feeling the occasional throb of power roll over them both. It was just as well that she was unable to create whatever icon ...

Re: At the Ruins of Madness

The wind sauntered over the beach, goading the waves ever forward. The beachgrass bristled and rolled alongside the water, producing an eerie sound with an uncanny similarity to whispers. The basilard’s sense of security dropped. The plants felt more like watchers than sanctuary, with blades ...

Re: At the Ruins of Madness

The basilard’s glow remained contemplatively mute as she settled into the grass. She dropped a handful of detritus into its midst and set to work sorting through it all. The equipment appeared sparse, but what they did have could prove to be useful. Waterlogged rope, planks, and a small handful of ...

Re: At the Ruins of Madness

In what rega- The bird let out a harsh cry, its legs crawling along the branches. The creature flapped once without letting go of the branch, causing its weak wood to bend. The basilard recovered quickly, restating its question as the bird flapped again, this time such that it flew. With a muted ...

Re: At the Ruins of Madness

I am on your side. The basilard responded without hesitation. Should you fail, I will be left here to perish, stifled beneath this place’s presence over the slow course of decades.

She addressed it as “spirit of Raven,” giving the basilard the title of her deity. Relief and amusement entwined in ...

Re: At the Ruins of Madness

The basilard had no difficulty interpreting “charms” to mean “magic” between its centuries of experience and what it already knew of her. It was an enlightening declaration, as referring to magic in unusual ways was often the mark of isolated people with longstanding customs regarding its use. The ...

Re: At the Ruins of Madness

Okay so some quick names for later use, from the brain of Jason:

The jungle is called the "Jungles of Tenga"
The locals call the landmass and the jungle together "Aatanghara" (This includes livable spaces outside the jungle)
The Eyropans call the landmass under the jungle "Cape Król"

Due to the ...

Re: At the Ruins of Madness

The basilard’s power flared, the light of the blade magnifying such that even under the sun it could be discerned. Though often slow and liquid, here the light bent in a manner even more foreign to natural laws, inexorably being pushed away from the jungle. It was best to do this now, before the ...

Re: At the Ruins of Madness

The dagger you took from the man with the raven’s limb; prick your finger. It said, answering in truth with the spirit of deception. If there was a raven themed spirit in her lore, it would sound as if the question had been ignored entirely. If not, it had just answered her question. I will guide ...
