Tempfirus

also called firewalkers or land phoenixes, the tempfirus is a large, flightless bird unique to Tapuria's Waivunemu island. It is sometimes mistaken for the rheanite because of its similar appearance.

Tempfirus have several key differences that distinguish them from other birds on Waivunemu, the most obvious being their shockingly colored plumage, usually a shade of red or gold combined with black. They have strong, long black legs built for running and walking long distances. Their heads resemble that of an eagle, with sharp eyes and hooked beaks which are far smaller than the rheanite. Their wings are larger than rheanites and are used for show. The tempfirus is one of the animals on Tapuria which was successfully domesticated. They are native to Tapuria only, but the first wild flock of tempfirus was exported to Setkhantos where they are bred for many purposes, often used as war animals or for traveling great distances quickly. They are also used for racing in some regions. They are still considered exotic animals and are generally very expensive because they are difficult to breed in captivity.

These birds often have the striking ability to cast fire on themselves, which they do by waving their wings in an arc. The fire does not harm the animal, but they will charge their attacker while on fire. They are known for having very short tempers. Even domesticated tempfirus are not really tame, and are very dangerous animals to work with. They are as intelligent as large species of parrot, though they cannot mimic human speech.

Range

The tempfirus is unique to Tapuria's Waivunemu island, but were domesticated and exported to Setkhantos. The domestic variety is now found worldwide, though very rarely. They are usually owned by exotic animal keepers and nobles.
