Vincent the Farmer

Post by Vincent » Mon Sep 02, 2013 7:25 pm

Name: Vincent (the Farmer)

Age: 27

Race: Human

Height: 5'11"

Weight: 180lbs

Physical Description: The first thing that is likely to stick in anyone's mind upon meeting Vincent is the ease at which he can be ignored. Whilst this is to many something to fear, to be something that is not unique, it suits Vincent just fine. He's average height, for a human anyway, and not particularly muscular or large. He simply shows signs of a life of hard labor, and a body to match. His eyes are a plain brown, yet warm and inviting, and sit in deep set sockets outlined by bags from late nights and early mornings. His lips are chapped and dry from days spent toiling in the sun and his dark blonde hair lies flat on his head. He shared none of the chiseled features of more handsome men, and carried none of the softness of a 'cute' one either. He is, quite simply, average.

Possessions: A small farmstead, just a little way outside of Shim. It consists of about 2 acres of land, upon which 2 separate fields and a home sit. One field grows wheat, it's main use to be sold to those who own a windmill to be turned into flour (A little of which he takes in order to make his own bread) and the other grows lettuce, again for sale and a small amount for his own consumption. Most of the money he gets selling his crops goes to the upkeep of his home and lands, food and other necessities, but he is always able to keep a small amount aside in his own little savings pot (Which over the past 4 or 5 years now amounts to about 700 Bishan.) Apart from his minimal wages and simple farming tools, he owns little else.

Powers or Strengths: Vincent has no supernatural abilities to speak of (Unless being able to scythe an entire field of wheat in just over half a day is now supernatural!) and magic is something to steer clear of for him. As for strengths in personality, Vincent is normally willing to offer a hand to someone in need, and will do anything he can (though not if it'll put him in debt or in danger, he simply can't afford to lose his livelihood.) He possesses strength enough to haul two bags of flour from the windmill to his home without winding himself and stamina to work with a scythe all day.

Weaknesses: Vincent lacks anything that could distinguish himself in any field outside of farming, and possesses none of the unnatural abilities many other people seem to have. He's poor, and has little to offer to others. Moreover, he's sensitive when it comes to discussing his late parents, tending to retreat into himself if the subject arises. It's not unusual that someone lacking any powers that're supernatural to share weaknesses in the same field and for Vincent it's no different. Finally it could be argued that his biggest weakness is the apparent inability he has leaving work. It's a rare day when he'll take a day off to do other things for himself.

History: Vincent has lived in the same house since the day he was born. He never knew his mother, for she died during childbirth and so he grew up with only his father as guidance. Gareth, his father, wasn't the type to be soft with his child and set Vincent working on the farm as soon as he was able to walk and work. It's not hard to imagine that Gareth blamed his son for the death of his wife and that this is why he kept his son working, paying of a debt so high he could never hope to pay. By the time Vincent was 15, he had mastered most forms of farming and was becoming more and more dominant in the farming roles, taking over many of the tasks his father was unable to finish due to age.

His father died when Vincent turned 20, leaving the farm to his son, and no money to speak of. On his deathbed, Vincent's father confirmed his fears, and apologized for treating him like hired labor and not like a son. He relinquished that Vincent couldn't have meant for his mother's death. This however did the opposite for the young man, and instead of calming him, drove him into a spiral of self-destructive behavior, culminating in his neigh-obsessive work ethic.

7 more years have passed since Vincent buried his father in the earth, and every day simply followed the last in a blur. Sometimes he dreams of leaving, searching for something beyond, and perhaps this is why he saves, but when such thoughts surface, he drowns them once again in work, continuing to pay this unpayable debt.
