Costin Mornir

Post by Costin Mornir » Fri Aug 31, 2012 2:13 am

Player Name: Frug
Character Name: Costin Mornir
Race: 3/4 Human, 1/4 Elf
Age: 20
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 175 lbs

Possessions:
Costin lives with his parents on the western edge of the residential district of Marn. They have a modest, two-story house with two bedrooms, bathrooms with running water and a small amount of electricity for essential lighting and cooking.
Savings of approximately 50 Bishani while his parents provide for his living needs.
A 4 year old male black and brown Saluki (dog) named Eutychir that hangs around the house, given to Costin by his parents.
A 6 inch, elven crafted hunting knife that is surprisingly light and durable, passed down to him from his mother's side of the family.

Physical Description:
Costin's elven blood is diluted enough not to be immediately apparent. He stands just under 6 feet tall, with dark orange hair, green eyes, and skin on the slightly lighter side. He has a youthful face that is not unattractive, and average build for a human. On close inspection, his ears do indeed taper subtly at their tips, but this might be passed off as coincidence.

Strengths:
Native Marnian: Costin is a synevive - a 6th generation Marnian whose roots trace back to the time of the first settlers. His family name is therefore known by other citizens and the city guard. This gives him the benefit of the doubt when he gets in trouble, and helps keep him out of the watchful eye of the judges.

Well Educated: Costin knows how to read, write, basic mathematics, essential physics, Marnian history, and cultural norms. He is reasonably well spoken and knows what is expected of him from society - despite his reluctance to conform.

Well-to-do: Costin has parents to care for him and enough money to get by on his own if the need should arise.

Magical Abilities: None.

Weaknesses and Handicaps:
Rebellious and impulsive: Perhaps the most destructive force in Costin's life is himself. He is driven to rebel against the authority of Marnian guards and judges, and lashes out against his parents often. Costin supports the Vitiable Paragon and anti-government sentiment in Marn, and can be irresponsible about expressing these views.

Impertinent: Costin doesn't know how to keep his mouth shut. Thus far his impudence has been limited to upsetting teachers at school and his parents, but this is bound to have further repercussions if he can't put it under control.

Naive: He is young and naïve. Along with his rebellious nature, his lack of wisdom means he is a prime target to be manipulated by others and taken advantage of.

History:
Costin was the second son born to Ella and Thomnas Mornir in Marn. Ella remains at home while Thomnas works for the government as an orderly. Costin's older brother, Jason, left the family to work in a restaurant at 17 and has lived on his own in Marn since then. Costin currently lives with his parents in a two-story house on the western edge of the residential district.

As a young boy, Costin lived a traditional Marnian life primarily involving government sanctioned cultural events and schooling. His father consistently impressed upon his family the importance of maintaining traditional conservative values, including regular reading of the Tomes of the first settlers. As such, the deeply rooted history of the Mornir family defined many of Costin's early experiences.

He learned about how Theus Mornir, eldest to bear the family name, moved to Marn shortly after its founding and took on a new name of the Marnian style in order to lay new roots in the settlement. He learned of the trials the family had to endure first against cold winters and harsh weather - sustaining themselves off of the trade routes while they were still trafficked – and later turmoils within the populace of Marn itself, right up to the most recent riots of 135 PW. That his grandmother on his mother's side happened to have been a full blooded elf is a quietly acknowledged fact of little consequence to all but the most overtly racist of citizens.

Unfortunately, Thomnas' limited world view and lack of flexibility would eventually frustrate Costin and drive him against many of his teachings while his brother, Jason, coped by avoiding confrontation.
By the age of 15 Costin had begun disobeying his father and speaking ill of stifling Marnian conservatism. He missed school to hang out with a gang of rougher boys who liked to cause trouble and mischief in the city, and made regular visits to the shanty town black market.

His brother Jason, possessing of a different temperament than Costin, dealt with their situation by cooperating with his parents and the community, and eventually leaving the family to live on his own. This left Costin on his own to deal with his parents (and left his parents alone to deal with him). It is in this light that Costin discovered the Vitiable Paragon and began investigating avenues to go beyond simply escaping his parents.
