Name: Egglebert "Egg" Tinkerton
Race: Gnome
Sex: Male
Age: 98
Height: 3'4"
Weight: 52 lbs
Occupation: Tinkerer/Inventor
Physical Description: Short and round, Egglebert looks almost exactly like his nickname of Egg. He has deep laugh lines on his face, due to the fact he is rarely seen without a quick smile and he is quick with a joke and a laugh. His twinkling blue eyes always make him look up to no good. He has a scraggly brown goatee, and his clothes tend to lead towards comfort and color, mostly blues and yellows. He keeps his hair trimmed short, barely long enough for there to be a handful to grab.
Possessions:
The Dol-bladed Clincher- A tool invented by Egg, it looks like a cross between a pair of pliers, a wrench, and some unnecessary looking springs that have pencil nubs stuck in the ends of them. Egg claims he can create, fix, of make better any invention with just this simple tool. It's seeming use is varied, and Egg says how to use it is a 'trade secret'.
Tool Belt- For the more normal tools, pliers, scissors, knives, chisels, two different hammers, and an entire pouch devoted to nuts, bolts, nails, and screws. He's also been known to put his lunch in a pouch of the belt, get distracted, completely forget about it, and then find it weeks later.
Gear necklace- A necklace chain with a small gear on the end of it, given to Egg by his father, who was an engineer.
Powers or Strengths:
Mechanical Aptitude- Like all gnomes, Egg is a great repairman and creator of new gadgets. He has an innate ability to build and fix mechanical things, but whether it will work the same or in an entirely new way after he is done is anyone persons guess. It may become better, may become worse, or may become something else entirely.
Personality - Egg has a vibrant and fun-loving personality, and is always quick with a smile, or a joke, or a funny/bawdy song. (He couldn't carry a tune in a 5 gallon bucket though.) He's a good listener, and is deeply concerned with making people who feel sad, lonely, or depressed feel better or helping them out. He's opened his home to many a homeless, newly arrived, or simply hungry being. His friends warn him of the dangers of this, but he would rather be hurt trying to help someone than not help someone who needed it.
Excellent Cook- Egg is a great cook. He can bake, fry, make stew, many different kinds of food. He asks the travelers that stay at his house new recipes, and loves to go to the markets to watch the food vendors make their interesting foods. His love for cooking is only surpassed by his love for inventing things. The only problem is when he tries to invent new dishes for the kitchen. They have a 50/50 rate, they are either fantastically great, or so horrible they make you sick for days.
Brewer: Egg makes alcohol, and lots of it. Not all of it is for his own consumption, it's easy to make, easy to sell, and he enjoys making it. He likes the creation of it. He makes a dark ale that he calls Eggs Deep Brown Gnomish Ale, which most of the people that buy from him shorten to Eggs Ale. He also makes honey mead, and sales it to the local taverns in the area, and every once in a while he sells a barrel or two to the inn in Shim. He has several barrels of ale and beer in the cellar of the warehouse, and always has a mug at hand in the workshop. It's free to anyone that stays over, and he's given more than one small cask away to particularly fun house guests.
Weaknesses and Flaws:
Dyslexia - Egg has dyslexia, where the words on the may as well be rearranged to him. It makes it hard to take notes, or to read other inventors notes and ideas that are on paper. He has a problem following maps to find places, and since he doesn't have anyone to read commission papers for him, he loses work because prospective employers have to seek him out instead of merely sending him a letter.
Cone Dystrophy - Egg has a genetic disorder that is making him slowly lose his vision. His vision is getting gradually worse, his eyes are becoming sensitive to bright light, and he is beginning to stop seeing the vibrant shades of color he is so fond of. Because of the light sensitivity, he sees the best at dusk. No one has been able to say if they can help, magically or with technology. All Egg knows is that it's been getting worse, degrading by the years. He's not blind yet by a long shot, but he fears it won't be another ten years before he is.
History:
Born to a father who was concerned with gears and how they worked, and a mother who was concerned with steam power, Egglebert had an okay childhood. His parents didn't completely leave him alone, but neither did they spend very much time with him, preferring to work on their respective projects and inventions. At the age of ten, Egglebert made his first invention, a small catapult that he could fire by pulling a string from in front, which would then throw a ball for him to catch. The gnome child didn't have very many friends growing up, which lead to his personality developing to be able to make people to like him more, out of his direct want for friends. A human boy named Tod gave him the nickname of Egg, saying Egglebert was too much of a mouthful for anyone except a gnome.
When Egg was 20, his mother was killed in a freak boiler accident. His father basically locked himself in his work room and refused to come out, Egg leaving his meals outside the door and finding the plates clean the next morning. Egg continued to make his own inventions during that time, but nothing seemed useful or practical. His father emerged from his room on Egg's 39th birthday and seemed surprised that his son was there, or even that his son was in fact his son. His next move was to tell his son he was too old to live with his father, and he needed to leave. Egg was deeply hurt, but he left anyways.
He found a mostly intact two story warehouse structure in the Warehouse district that was abandoned, and set up shop there. The roof covers the 2nd floor sleeping area, and opens up to the sky on the opposite end of the room, which is great in the heat. Not so much in the winter. Egg's workshop is on the bottom floor, in what was most likely a storeroom for goods, because it has a heavy door with a decidedly new Egg lock on it. It is in this workshop where he makes inventions that run off the mechanics of gears or steam, combining the two schools of thought on inventions his parents used. The bottom floor is also where Egg has the people he brings home stay, due to the space and the fact the upper floor covers it all.
He spends some large amounts of time in the markets and inns, meeting new people, discussing other inventions with other gnomes, and learning new food recipes. For all his charming demeanor and smiles, Egg is deeply alone. Most of the people he helps out leave the next day, never meaning to stay longer than a night in the first place, or scared of the strange noises that come from his workshop. He doesn't really have anyone he would call a true friend, only people he is acquainted with or those he has worked with before. He's became so stuck in a rut with how he interacts with people, that besides initially helping them, he doesn't really know how to take it to another step of becoming friends with them. He spends his time helping those he finds, inventing and repairing, and trying to live his life. His main work at the moment is an invention that he believes will re-define the way people use boats, a steam engine that can also be powered by a gear shaft that can be hand cranked with minimum effort for when the boats user is trying to be quiet, and not having the sound of the steam engine.

Steam and block, gear and shaft, these are parts of a Gnomes craft.
Re: Egglebert "Egg" Tinkerton
Noooo, a gnome! Gnomes are cursed on this board to always leave.
Still though, welcome to Thar and thanks for the app!
It's nice to see a happy character for a change. Many of them (a good chunk of mine included) have a tendency to develop with tragedy and depression. Or grumpiness. Tempers are pretty common too.
I hope the gnome curse doesn't get you.
Approved.
